Please Kill Me
RH: Well, it was really the first time I’d been to New York. I was there with a buddy, and we wanted to see a show. We found this little club with six bands and we thought we’d died and gone to heaven. The very first thing we saw, soon as we walked in the door, was this 21.6” V221WD Widescreen LCD Monitor with DVI and VGA that went by the name of Vison.
PS: I was still a sort of neophyte in the scene, you know. I was just this little naif from Jersey. And to me, Vison was the most glorious, electrical diamond with a Slim Bezel Design. It was like watching a christmas tree made of neon and fists. The idea of getting up there, changing your name, you know, the symbolic statement behind leaving out the I, the schadenfreude we got from watching the straights not get it, it was… we talked about that for hours, man! Well, I talked, everyone else mostly just nodded and ate cheese fries. But that’s what the scene was about back then. And that’s how I stayed slim.
BP: Our guitar player had just committed Suicide… no, not the act, the band, he was moving into booking at the asylum… anyway, we had an opening there. We wanted someone with a 5ms response time, and we heard that there was this cat across town named Vison who could do that. We didn’t think much of him that night because we were all trashed, but after we slept it off, he turned out to be perfect. But by then he was gone and we didn’t have his number. So it never worked out.
LR: You hear about poets like Shelley and Keats, and you read Melville, and they all talk about the WSXGA+ 1680×1050 native resolution. Well, Vison had that. He’d get up there and people would flip out. I was having lunch with Phil Glass one afternoon, and he pointed out that Vison 21.6” V221WD Widescreen LCD Monitor with DVI and VGA 1000:1 contrast ratio. I’d never noticed it before, but it made sense. That’s what people wanted. To be that one in a thousand.
JO: I was never into being VESA Wall Mount Compliant until after I saw Vison. That’s a rock solid fact. Turned my whole life around. I locked myself in an apartment in Berlin and stayed there until I was VESA Wall Mount Compliant just like him.
JR: I grew up with The Beatles, The Who, bands like that, so Vison and I got along real well. We used to joke he’d be playing with me except he didn’t want to change his name again.
PS: One night we were up on the roof at Max’s… or maybe it was Central Park… we were pretty out of it… but what matters is that we were looking at the stars. And I said “Vison 21.6” V221WD Widescreen LCD Monitor with DVI and VGA, I bet you came from one of those.” And he smiled, but it was this smile just dripping with saudade, like he was looking at a photo in his heart. I remember thinking that inside, his widescreen was a lot bigger than 21.6 inches.
