Of all of Leonardo da Vinci's failed inventions, this one is the most comfortable.

Leonardo da Vinci's genius remains unchallenged in the pantheon of intellectual history. The epitome of a "Renaissance Man," Leonardo's paintings, scientific works, and engineering drafts showcase his insatiable curiosity. And while many of his proposed inventions, such as human-powered flying machines and "Dream Chairs" proved technically impossible, the latter at least provides tremendous comfort to deck-loungers.

Proposed originally by Leonardo as a way for individuals to directly access their unconscious dreams while fully awake, the Dream Chair features an ergonomic frame and built-in umbrella. Although it utterly fails to achieve Leonardo's goals, it is nevertheless a really comfy chair.

Sure, it might not work as a steam cannon per da Vinci's design, but the articulating leg rest lets you rock back and forth until you drift off to slumberland. Plus, you'll rest easy knowing you're napping in the brainchild of the greatest polymath to ever live. Which is some solace for its utter inability to act as a hydraulic pump.
