They’re wired alike, they work alike, it’s just that they don’t look alike

Always in the movies with the evil twins. Why? We’ve known a few twin pairs in our day, but never one with an evil member. Or have we? Somehow, deep inside the oldest parts of our brains, twindom seems to spark suspicion. Who is this person, after all, who looks just like Marc from our science class, but claims to be someone else—his brother Brian—instead? We’ll have to keep an eye on that one.

Remember those twins from Cobra? They were like mirror images, actually, which we don’t think happens in nature. Also, one had a scar so you could tell them apart. Then there was the Man in the Iron Mask, remember that guy? No, not Destro; we’re not talking about G.I. Joe anymore. Our point is that the culture has trained us not to trust twins. That the only way to avoid all the intrigue of wondering whether you’re dealing with the good one or the evil one at any given time is to put your trust exclusively in doppelgangerless individuals. Problem is, how do you even know?

Well, anyway, these TVs are like the opposite of that phenomenon. Or the inverse of it. Or the obverse. Whatever.

See, with twins you have two individuals that look alike, but one of them is evil on the inside. At least one of them. Sometimes both. By contrast, with these HDTVs, you have two specimens that look different, but which are the same on the inside.

Turn either one on and watch it, you can’t distinguish it from the other. They’re the same. Same guts, same components. Same Clear Pix Technology for sharp, clear, bright images and rich colors. Same stereo and surround sound, same double 10-watt speakers. Same dual HDMI connections, same PC input. Same, same.

But when they’re off and you’re just looking at them, they don’t look anything alike. (Well, OK, they look a little bit alike. They’re both 37-inch LCD HDTVs, naturally.) They’re like fraternal twins, maybe. Which explains why they’re both good TVs. Because no one ever heard of an evil fraternal twin, it doesn’t make sense.

Seriously, what would be the point? An evil fraternal twin wouldn’t even look like the good one. There’s no deception there. That’s not an evil twin; that’s just some jerk.
