Some of you elitists get after us a little because we put up so many Sansa media players. We read your posts on our message boards—your snide comments about “how many of these Sansas does Woot have?” and “4 teh milionth time, DO NOT WANT.” You don’t “get” how this one brand of media player could be so popular as to warrant thrice-weekly appearances on our various online retail outlets. Well, that’s because you don’t live in the Sansa Belt.

Sansa Belt wooters have different values from yours. They grew up in communities where little things—like a built-in mic for voice recording, or a digital FM tuner—still mean something. They lead a simpler life, and they want an mp3 player with simple controls so they don’t need degrees in advanced UI theory to play the songs and podcasts they enjoy.

Living in the Sansa Belt, you don’t always have luxuries other people might take for granted. You might not have an “extra” USB cable or a lot of software for media management. So you appreciate a direct-connecting USB player you can plug right into your computer. You appreciate drag-and-drop file transfer that doesn’t require a lot of fancy programs.

Maybe it’s popular in your part of the country to heap scorn on the Sansa Belt. Maybe you mock the traditions and values that have persisted here since time immemorial. Maybe there’s no room in your “lifestyle” for an affordable, dependable, easy-to-use, one-gig expandable mp3 player. Hey, there’s room in this great nation for all different kinds of people. But pal, don’t let us hear you condescending to Sansa Belt wooters while we’re around. Those are our people you’re talking about.
