Hey, you never can be too prepared.
Dude, check it out.
“What the heck is that?”
Got myself a PEARL: Permanent Escape and Rescue Ladder. Pretty responsible of me, right?
“Wow, totally. That’s like, grown-up stuff.”
I know. Mom’s been on my case about being more responsible and crap. I figure hey, let’s tally it up: number of rescue ladders bought and installed by Wayne: 1. By mom: 0.
“Heheh. Winning!”
Dude. Don’t ever say that around me again.
“Sorry.”
Anyway this thing’s got me so freakin’ protected it’s not even funny. It comes in a little cabinet that recesses into my interior wall space and beneath the window. The last thing you want is to be digging through your closet in the middle of a fire trying to find your escape ladder.
“I don’t think you should ever do that-”
I know. Exactly. Anyway I just unfurl this thing, toss it out the window, and climb on up.
“Cool, man. Wait. It goes up? It looks like it would just sort of, I don’t know…hang.”
Well of course it goes UP, man. I live in the basement. Where else is it supposed to go?
