OK, look, I’m sorry I didn’t come over on Christmas. But I had a really good reason. You remember Todd Ackley from high school?

Sure you do. That guy who always wore the overalls with one strap undone? Remember? He got expelled for bringing that machete to school? Yeah, him. Well, see, I saw him at the mall a couple of days ago buying an LG Upconverting DVD Player. It’s the USB-equipped DVD player that simulates 1080p images from regular old DVDs.

I don’t remember if it was the LG DN898, that plays also MPEG-4 files and lets you adjust the aspect ratio, or the heavier, less full-featured LG DN798. It doesn’t matter. The point is, we got to talking, and it turned out he’s been estranged from his family ever since he got out of jail. So he wasn’t doing anything on Christmas except running a Hong Kong action marathon at his house for a few fellow ex-con friends, and well, I guess I said I’d come by. Blame it on the holiday spirit.

OK, OK, it wasn’t the holiday spirit. It was the promise of high-octane Hong Kong action with the LG Upconverting DVD Player’s sharp, lifelike, spectacular video. I mean, Todd was gonna be showing some weird imported cut of Prison On Fire – c’mon, I was helpless before that.

Anyway, it was awesome, but I felt guilty the whole time for ditching you guys. That’s not the kind of thing I should do to anybody, much less my own brother. So please, dude, I’m totally sorry. Seriously. Hey, was Mom pretty upset?
