The French say “the sharper your knife, the less you will cry.”

I’m not sure the French got that right.

Maureen? Honey? Can you call an ambulance, please? Well, I seem to have dropped a knife on, or rather through, my foot. Yes, it’s one of the knives that came in that KAI Shun Ken Onion 4-Piece Steak Knife Set.

Yes, of course I’m going to wash it. Just as soon as a trained medical professional extricates it from my metatarsals.

No, I stand by my assertion that a sharp set of fine steak knives would be a welcome addition to our dining room. However, based on the amount of blood seeping from my shoe, I’m a little antsy about my “this could be the last set of steak knives I ever buy” comment. I’m not a big fan of irony that way.

Well up until it was lodged in my foot and pinning me to the linoleum it was a fantastic knife. They all have “super steel” blades, specially-shaped handles to fight knife fatigue, and just plain looked cool. Sure, you can’t chop with them, but they’re steak knives! If you want to chop, go buy a butcher knife somewhere.

And yes, I still feel like sharper knives are safer. They don’t “catch” on what you’re cutting and slip, causing you to lose a finger.

They do, however, stab like hell when dropped.
