Ah, the Jaton PC Multimedia Speaker System! It’s like a handsome musical family sextet, with five stylish silver siblings belting out the melodies and harmonies while big, burly daddy sings bass.

This big ol’, busy world is full of sounds we’ll never hear. There’s the high-pitched chirp of a dog whistle, cycling at 22000 hertz, above the range of human hearing. There’s the infrasonic rumble of African savannah elephants: they communicate down around 14 hertz, lower than our ears can perceive. There’s the soft puff of a Monarch butterfly fart as it flits past your ear, registering a fraction of a decibel, far below the auditory threshold.

And there’s dear mother’s repetitive squawk: “Save and quit that video game and come to supper!” Sorry ma, were you talking to us? These five satellite speakers and their bass-bumpin’ subwoofer kinda drowned you out.
