It’s almost sign-off time for the Haier PDTB7’s analog TV tuner. But even after the digital switchover, it’ll still be a perfectly good DVD and audio player. Won’t you please give it a good home?

Jacob and Ben were talking in the school cafeteria at lunchtime. “Ben, you remember that kite I made in art class last year?,” Jacob asked. “Best kite in the fifth grade. Everybody knew it. But nobody called me Jacob the Kite-Maker, did they?”

“No, no they didn’t.”

“This summer, when I won that skateboard competition at the YMCA skatepark, did anybody call me Jacob the Skater?”

“I don’t think so,” Ben admitted.

Jacob went on. “And last week, I got the only 100 on that math test. But you didn’t hear anybody calling me Jacob the Mathematician, did you?”

“No, not that I heard.”

“But I eat one lousy booger…”

So it is with the Haier PDTB7 TV/DVD/CD Boombox. Last time we sold it, everybody fixated on how its analog TV tuner will be obsolete next February. Never mind that it’s still a pretty awesome portable DVD player with a 7” TFT LCD screen. Scarcely a word was said about its capability to play CDs, MP3s, or FM/AM radio. Nobody called it Haier PDTB7 the Great-Sounding Boombox, or Haier PDTB7 the Camping Companion, or Haier PDTB7 the Essential Tail-Gate Accessory.

It’s true that the Haier PDTB7 won’t be much of a TV come the digital switchover. But it’ll be so many other things, for a long time to come. Please don’t throw the multimedia-playback baby out with the obsolete-TV bathwater. And let he who has never eaten a booger cast the first stone.
