Day 21: I still haven’t given up hope.

I no longer hear the cries of the dead and dying outside my window. The ant apco… apocho… armageddon has ended, it would seem. We have won… if only winning is the word to use.

My Grundig G4 AM/FM/Shortwave Portable Recording Radio has been telling me that the military has moved in. From time to time I hear their cannons. I wonder what they’re shooting at. Target practice? Covering up evidence? I am recording everything to the built-in SD card slot for future historians to find.

Fourteen days since the giant ants appeared. Instantly crushed under their own weight. They fell like six-legged weights, crushing picnics, playgrounds, pools, pets and yes, even people. Also at least one pony and a pack of pickles Paul Peterson was planning to purchase. And Van Morrison was killed by them as well.

Across all 1000 presets my Grundig G4 AM/FM/Shortwave Portable Recording Radio only carried one story. Anywhere there was an ant, there appeared a giant ant. Like a passive blitzkrieg, they filled the streets, giant, twitching, and quickly dead. For fourteen days we have all been sitting and wishing for our lives in the shadow of these chitinous mountains that may take us take years to remove. Is it ironic to note that the ants became a bigger annoyance in death than they were in life?

See, I’m asking because I’m American, so I have no idea what irony means. Maybe I can get the BBC on this Grundig G4 AM/FM/Shortwave Portable Recording Radio. Canada does irony, right? I bet there’s a Canada station somewhere on this thing. If I’m lucky they’ll have a Dangermouse radio show.

The G4 has an equalizer with seven presets (Natural, Rock, Pop, Classic, Soft, DBB, and Jazz) as well as SRS Labs' SRS 3D, TruBass, and FOCUS. These options are available only when playing MP3 or WMA files.
AM antenna is built into the radio. The 28" telescoping antenna covers the FM and Shortwave bands. An input on the left side allows the addition of a 50Ω or 70Ω external antenna
The G4's alarm is programmed for specific time, volume, and playtime. You can choose for the alarm to play a specific radio frequency, play an MP3 from an SD/MMC card or flash memory, or tune to a specific frequency and record (to SD/MMC or flash memory)
The clock uses a 12 or 24 hour format and holds the time of day and date.
