I think it started outside of a small town, when one night a mysterious meteorite falls to Earth. When someone goes to investigate the crash, the meteorite cracks open and inside is an intelligent, malleable putty filled with swirls of color and iridescent sparkles.
I may be misremembering, but I think it was played by Hugh Grant.
Anyways, the charmingly self-deprecating space putty, a perennial bachelor, meets a beautiful woman named Carrie at a mutual friend's wedding (the space putty must have made a lot of human friends shorty after he crashed to Earth, because he ends up going to a lot of weddings and things), and they spend the night together before she leaves again for wherever it was she was from.
Some time after that, the blob is at another wedding, and Carrie is there again, only this time she introduces the blob to her fiancé! But that doesn't seem to matter because when that dude's not around, the putty guy and Carrie spend the night together again!
A month later, the blob suffers the indignity of going to Carrie's wedding. He even helps her pick out her wedding dress! Ouch! But then, suddenly, a friend of theirs dies at the wedding.
The blob pines for Carrie all throughout the funeral, but then we flash forward to a wedding where the putty is marrying another woman. But then, Carrie shows up and announces that she has left her husband! He admits his love for Carrie at the altar, and his fiancé punches him out!
Anyways, in the end, Carrie and the Blob get together and I think Hugh Grant devours a movie theater full of people.
