Lifesaver this summer
By W S on Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2024
During this summer's heatwaves, my room was a constant 90°F+. This AC maintains a comfortable temperature in the low 70s. Key Features: Efficient Cooling: Effectively cools a 150 sq ft room Compact Design: Roughly 1 sq ft footprint (excluding exhaust pipe) Easy Installation: Simple setup, though the exhaust pipe could be more flexible Quiet Operation: Measures 42dB on a phone app during compressor use Responsive Customer Support: Quickly answered my questions I opted for a single-hose AC primarily for the significantly smaller size (and far lower price) compared to dual-hose ones. Not as energy-efficient, but the smaller size was a necessity for my cramped room. The unit is quiet enough to use during sleep. Additionally, the responsive customer support is a plus. In conclusion, if you're looking for an effective, compact, and budget-friendly cooling solution for a small space, this portable AC unit is worth considering. It's been a lifesaver for me.

Are you afraid of fires? I am.
By J.D. on Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2025
So I bought two different units from two different companies, both from Amazon. I got this one for the step-down den with the weird windows that won't take a typical window unit. And I regret it!! When this thing worked, it worked beautifully. The excessively long cord and exhaust tube was annoying because they would get in the way, but I liked the wheels enabling me to move it more easily. I was sohappy to have a cool den, I didn't care about the burden. It worked right up until my warranty ran out, like it was in communication with my calendar or something. Suddenly, it started to make terrible noises, like every second it would grind a little. But, since it was our first day of the year in the upper 90°Fs, I figured it was working harder and I just needed to clean the filters. And I did clean them and it kept making the noise. It wasn't terrible but I could live with it. Then the weather cooled down to the 70s, so it should be better, right? But I got home from work to find that the noise had gotten worse. Before I could check it, the noise just stopped. I thought that maybe it was finally okay and I let it work while I watched a movie. I noticed that the room felt hot. I went to check the unit, and the unit got was hot. Like I was smelling burning plastic hot. The machine was *very* felt hot to the touch. I unplugged it and I contacted customer support. We went through the obligatory questions multiple times: "Is it set to cool instead of fan? Did you turn the temperature down? Did you clean the filters?" I know why they have to ask the basics but it got exhausting. At no time should the machine get that hot and smell like burning plastic. And when we got to the part about removing the back panel, I could see the cheap inner workings and crappy plastic tape holding the styrofoam box together. It looks like the factory worker got to the end of the tape roll and just used what pieces were left and slapped it on there. In the end, they don't have any other help to offer and my warranty ran out, so I'm screwed. I know exactly what happened because it started making a regular grinding noise like clock. I think a piece of styrofoam, tape, or plastic dry rotted, fell down into the fan and caused it to grind, get hot, and it burned out. Weirdest thing though, it never needed a water dump. I live in 100% humidity environment (Florida wetland). That should have been my first clue that this thing was weird. But what disturbs me is that it got *that* hot and it didn't automatically shut off. That is scary.
