BUILT 24oz Shasta Insulated Tumbler

This is my first BUILT tumbler; we have a number of other popular and pricey brands so this has been an interesting comparative experience. The design is sleek and attractive, and I’m very pleased with the look of my new marshmallow tumbler. But there are… issues. The lid design is perfect for me, as I use a straw with everything (I’m not capable of drinking through the lid directly). My giant glass straw fits pretty nicely with minimal bouncing. But opening the flip-top part of the lid is HARD! I have to set the cup down on the counter and use two hands. That’s fine, I suppose, as I always have a straw in it anyway when I’m using it. But for those with arthritis or other ailments, this may not be the tumbler for you. The lid is threaded rather than the kind that you press in, making it more like a thermos. And when it is secure and the flap is closed, there are no leaks, so YAY. But if you attempt to release the lid with hot liquid inside, the pressure is so built up that it spits all over; then it gets retained under the lip of the lid and dribbles down in more than one place until I suck it all out from the side (I know, such a lady). Completely removing the lid just makes more of a mess. What’s worse is that the dribble gets caught underneath the silicone band, which made me realize that I must remove the band each time I wash the tumbler or it gets yucky. The band is easy to remove and replace, but it’s an annoying extra step and I assume the band is going to get tired of me pulling at it. I know what the directions say, but I put the whole thing in the top rack of the dishwasher with no ill effects and all of the parts wash well. While I wouldn’t order this exact tumbler again, I’d still be willing to try other designs from BUILT.
