Best Bang For Your Buck, No Regrets! FULL REVIEW
By MonsDomain on Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2024
I’m here for the same reason as you, you’re looking for the best budget monitor for your needs. This was the first gaming monitor I’ve ever purchased, intended to play PS5 on it; mostly sports games and FPS. After hours of research and shopping around, I concluded to this selection and boy am I happy I did! This monitor has basically everything you need to use with a PS5. 165hz, 27in with 2500R curved widescreen, QHD, HDR, and even speakers! But don’t use the speakers lol… I’ve looked into brands like Spectre, Asus, Acer, and KTC which were more expensive, so I was naturally skeptical about the quality of this monitor with it being “off-brand”. Especially with only 18 reviews. Only after a few hours and tinkering with some settings, my skepticism was laid to rest and I was immersed in whatever I was playing. After using the monitor for about a week, I present to you my review. BUILD QUALITY (8/10) This monitor is basically made with durable plastic and a metal stand. It doesn’t feel flimsy or fragile, obviously you have to be careful of the screen. The monitor has a good weight but not enough to ever topple over. Thin bezel on 3/4 sides. Buttons on the bottom right work as they should with tactile clicks on every press. No missed inputs, no more or less buttons than what you need in this monitor. The RGB on the back of the monitor is a cool concept but I never see it since my monitor is up against the wall. Instead, I attached a RBG light strip to the back to illuminate the monitor’s surroundings to my taste. My only complaint is the screws that connect to the stand are either cross threaded or not threaded deep enough so the screws did not sit flush, but tight enough to secure the monitor. SETUP (9/10) As stated above, my only issue with the setup was the screws. Otherwise, setup is pretty simple and instructions reflect that. From opening the box to turning it on, setup for me took about 45 minutes with the screw obstacle, hopefully yours doesn’t come like that. The stand feels sturdy and is not too big. The monitor also has mounting options but my setup doesn’t have anywhere to mount so I cannot attest to that. The monitor comes with 2 HDMI ports, 2 DCI ports, and 1 aux output located on the back. I tried to mirror my laptop via HDMI2 and nothing displayed, but I’m assuming that’s due to user error and using an incompatible HDMI cable. Overall, setup was easy-peezy! PICTURE QUALITY (9/10) At this price range, this monitor delivers everything as advertised. 2k resolution on this 27 inch curved screen looks great for my needs. I’m curious how 4K would look but it’s certainly not necessary for me at least. HDR works as it should after tweaking settings on the PS5 unit. At first, the display will look washed out until you adjust the HDR settings in the PS5 to match the monitor. I tweaked the blacks to be a little lighter for my liking and the picture is beautiful. I noticed the picture doesn’t stretch all the way to the bezels, there is about 1/3 inch black gap from the bezels to the screen. It’s not a big deal at all to me as I don’t notice it while gaming, but something to note. The 2500R curve widescreen is perfect for my setup and distance from the viewing position; a little more than two feet. This is my first curved screen and it does help with peripheral vision, not having to turn your head. I don’t edit pictures or videos but I would imagine the monitor to be clear and accurate for that purpose as well. This monitor displays a clear and responsive picture with no dullness or off-colors. Overall, picture is as expected, and great at this price range. PERFORMANCE (10/10) 165hz is more than enough, as PS5 caps out at 120hz/fps. This was a big change, coming from a 50in 4K TV that was running only 60fps. The 120hz/fps is awesome and worth the upgrade in itself. The FreeSync technology is flawless, I haven’t noticed any lagging or tearing in the picture, it’s smooth at all times. No input lag at all from controller to screen. The monitor doesn’t overheat after hours of use, you’re locked in for as long as you use it! SOUND (5/10) Hats off for including two speakers but they are tiny and weak. Simply don’t use them and use an external speaker or headphones. But 5/10 for at least including them, as most monitors do not. PRICE (10/10) I purchased this monitor for $133 on Amazon sale, and I couldn’t ask for anything more! Compared to $160-$180 monitors that come with brand names and all the same specs, I don’t see what more I would get spending more money; other than the “pride” from telling my friends I’m on a Sceptre monitor etc. The price of this monitor is currently back up to the original price of $170, snag this monitor if the same sale returns. If I’m spending $170, I’m still choosing this monitor compared to the competition at the same specs and price range. XGaming delivered with this monitor at a very budget-friendly price point. OVERALL (9/10) For the price I snagged this at, I have zero buyer’s remorse! From picture quality, performance, build quality, and setup, I couldn’t ask anything more from this monitor and I’m confident I got the perfect monitor for my needs! Theres times I’m using the monitor and can’t believe I got this monitor for the price I did because I feel like it’s worth $180+. My only critiques are the faulty screws and bezel gaps mentioned above, giving this monitor an overall score of 9/10. If you’re in a similar situation as me, and especially if it’s back on a good amazon sale, do yourself a favor and save yourself the time and shopping and just cop this monitor!

3.5/5 rating

The features for the price makes this monitor a great value. This was a gift to my younger brother who was using an older Viewsonic 1080p 60hz monitor. Overall he's excited of the upgrade in resolution and refresh rate. I did notice after making some changes through the OSD, the panel would flicker when moving the mouse. After resetting to default settings the flickering went away. I'm not sure what setting caused the flickering, but that was a little disappointing. No way expecting high end specs/performance, but I do at least would like the panel to not freak out after changing a built-in setting. After all is said and done I'm pleased with this purchase as my brother is really enjoying the upgrade. For the price I paid ($120 and some change after taxes) it's hard to find something similar with the same feature set. I'm rating this buy as a 3.5/5
