Very high quality bird feeder!
By James Thacker on Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2025
Received the two feeders today that I ordered last week. They are as good as I thought they might be, my only concern is if the spring will let the outer cage close the feeder openings when a squirrel gets on the feeder. It’s extremely well made with the lower part easily removable for proper cleaning of the feeder. Birds are using it already, now just waiting to see how it works with a squirrel on it. It appears to be very sturdy but squirrels are extremely destructive. They have bent up similar feeders similar to these and even chewing the feed openings larger even though the lower part had a metal piece at the bottom. These feeders have metal completely around the feed openings and I’m anxious to see how well they work. I’ve got my fingers crossed, I’m tired of buying feeders, but now I think I’ve found the best. I’ve had the feeders for a few weeks now and they work great. They are completely squirrel proof but you must keep them away from another branch on the tree. If the squirrel can reach it and keep from putting his weight on it he can still get to the seed. The problem I’ve had now is raccoons, they have managed to knock the feeder down two times. The first time it didn’t do anything to the feeder and it still had most of the seed in it. The second time, just yesterday after knocking the feeder down the raccoon managed to get two of the perches off. One was broken but the other was just off and bent. I straightened the one and got it back on. I shortened the other one and rebent it and it works perfectly. I’m really happy with the strength of these feeders. I put these feeders up where it is a real job for an animal to get them off but it’s easy for me. Right now I’m taking the one feeder in at night. This feeder is absolutely easy to clean contrary to what one reviewer stated. The bottom of the feeder comes out with the removal of a compression pin, very easy. Buy this feeder if you’re tired of dealing with the squirrels but keep it far enough away from branches so the squirrels have to put their whole weight on it. I had it a little too close to a small branch and a squirrel was able to put just some of his weight on the feeder and the outer part only came down halfway and the persistent squirrel was able to get some sunflower seeds out. I trimmed the branch away and now the squirrel has to get completely on the feeder and it shuts the openings completely. I love ❤️ watching this guy, he is so persistent and occasionally gets on the feeder and tries his best to overcome this feeder but to no avail. I’ve been checking the feeders time to time and there is absolutely no damage. I’m really getting a kick out of watching the squirrels now.

Not truly squirrel-proof because of flimsy feeding port baffles
By KSmith on Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2025
I was so happy to find this feeder because it really did seem squirrel-proof all by itself, but I've since learned that it isn't. Squirrels are extremely smart and my local ones learned pretty quickly that they could hang by their back feet from the pole hook and not put their weight on the feeder at all, thereby defeating the mechanism that closes the feeding ports. Then they learned how to loosen the baffles that control the flow of the seed to the feeding ports so seed just poured out of the damaged ports. The feeding port baffles are made of fairly thin metal and aren't attached to the inside of the feeding ports very solidly, so the squirrels just yanked them loose. I'm hoping I can glue the feeder baffles back in place with some heavy-duty glue so they control the seed again, and then I'll have to get a squirrel baffle for the pole. I feel like these feeders are worth the extra effort because, when they work, they're marvelous. The port closing system allows smaller birds to eat while keeping out bigger birds like Blue Jays and they're also easy to fill and clean, which I really appreciate. I hesitated between giving 3 or 4 stars and decided in the end that the flimsiness of the port baffles knocked this feeder down to a 3.
