La Specialista Espresso Machine (Open Box)

I have a unit less than 1 year old. Grinder stopped working. I called delonghi and the first thing they asked me was if I used medium road or dark roast. I told them we have medium roast beans. I asked out of curiosity why they would ask that and if that would make any difference. I was told by the manufacturer that dark roast are greasier and it causes grinder to jam more frequently. My machine still jammed with medium roast and this is apprantely a common issue with their machine. Before calling the manufacturer, I thought I could take the grinder a part like any other all-in-one espresso machines at this price range to clear the grinder jam. You CANT with this one. I confirmed with the manufacturer that this unit doesn't allow you to clean the grinder on your own but must be sent-in if it gets jammed. If the grinder jam is a common issue and if you can't maintenance on your own; then this machine is a scam. Luckily, the grinder jam is covered by their 2 year warranty but once you run out of warranty, you have to pay $250 to have them clean the grinder. FYI, I only use this at home and make 3~4 espresso or latte in a week so if you drink everyday, the grinder jam can happen in about 6 months
