Beautiful graphic, music, very colorful, but more importantly, FUN
By Willie G.R. on Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2025
While the game is AMAZING and FUN and SUPER ENTERTAINING, there's nothing too revolutionary about Super Mario Wonder, outside of having the usual timer removed from the base game. It does appear on some parts of Wonder Seed segments. The graphics are beautifully gorgeous, fluid, and so very colorful and smooth with the framerates. The controls are pretty darned tight, and all characters control virtually flawlessly. Then there's the amazingly fun music that makes you want to stay put to listen to it play for as long as you want, since there's no timer, and finally, while the game lacks much of a story, once more it shows it doesn't really need much of a story in order to be one very amazing game. HIGHLY recommended to anyone!

Obnoxious, Gets Boring Fast, Childish, Pointless
By RSmith on Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2024
The singing and music, talking flowers, filler "challenges" and lack of adequate rewards makes this game boring and frustrating and disappointing. Also, there are about half the number of levels in each world (and the whole game, overall). We feel gipped! It probably would be fun for a 5 year old, but my 12 year old, who loves Mario games, is disappointed with it... She beat Bowser in 7 days and now there is not much else to do. My daughter says this about the game: this game has gotten very boring. It has been getting more and more disappointing as i keep playing. I've got to admit though, i really like tho no time thing, but almost everything else is very disappointing. There aren't enough real levels and too many badge challenges, wiggler races, break time challenges, KO arenas and search parties. Most levels are either not challenging enough and the ones that are, are too challenging. A lot of stuff is really frustrating. There is way way too much fluff in this game, such as talking, poplin houses, and other things. Like if a bridge is broken, the poplin next to it will say something like: ''i need to fix this bridge to get to my freind. I miss them very much. I would fix the bridge myself but I'm wilted! If only i had 10 flower coins.'' when all they need to say to get the point across to the player is say something like this: '' I need 10 flower coins to fix the bridge. Would you help me please? " Speaking of flower coins, i have too many of them and not enough stuff to spend them on! Also there is no point system, so what is the point of getting the top of the flag pole, or breaking bricks. Its just not a very fun mario game. Its also annoying. The talking flowers distract me, its also hard to tell if something is going to hurt me or not. The map outside of the levels is so confusing. I have never seen my mom so frustrated with a mario game in my life! Its also frustrating to watch someone else play the game. Thats all i have to say about this game. Overall i don't like it.

Having grown up on the NES and SNES, I was happy to see an entirely new 2D entry in the mainline mario series. After the phenomenal Super Mario Odyssey easily became my family's favorite video game during the pandemic, we were somewhat disappointed with the remakes that have been released since. It was an easy choice to pre-order Super Mario Wonder, but I was doubtful the experience could compare to Odyssey, despite more emphasis on co-op play. Gameplay: From the start screen, the essence of Mario games is captured perfectly in Super Mario Wonder. Levels oscillate between familiar terrains and novel landscapes. Most mario games offer something new that at first seems like it will disrupt the always-solid platforming experience and genius level design hallmark to 2D mario adventures. Wonder includes several new power-ups, an overwhelming number of one-at-a-time badges provide a small change in-stage, and the wonder flower induces brief level-warping or mario-warping mini-challenges. None of these are affect the game on the level of Oydssey's Cappy or Mario Sunshine's FLUDD. However, they are all interesting and worthy additions. They also allow for a solo base difficulty that is decidedly more challenging (as you get further into the game) than many other 2D Mario games. Yet, the game (as you would expect) is adaptive to a wide range of player skill because of the co-op, invincible characters (that don't need to be unlocked), new power-ups, and badges. Still, I do miss the simplicity of the platforming challenges hallmark to Mario games, which aren't quite as much on display here as compared to collecting star coins in New Super Mario Bros. Graphics: Graphically, the game delivers as much as the hardware allows. Detailed environments and distinct aesthetics for each world are evident. It can be a bit busy, but always fun. The level of polish is as good as any Mario game, which already sets the bar high. Character animations, character model design, enemy design, and effects, all add greatly to the experience. Controls: The controls, for the most part, are what you'd expect from a Mario title: reliable. Yet, during some platforming, my kids experienced issues they blamed on lagging response. It could have been that they were sitting too far from the Switch or that they are kids. I didn't notice any issues with input lag or imprecision. I also love that Nintendo just 2 core (run and jump) buttons are needed most of the time, supplementing with the top-right bumper button (or, alternatively, shaking the control) on occasion. Co-op: The co-op mode is where "Super Mario Wonder" truly attempts to bridge the generational gap. Collaborating with my children, combining our abilities to face challenges, is a great way to spend time together. The characters that don't receive damage from enemies make it easy for novices to contribute to the progress and keep up with more advanced players. Overall Assessment: Super Mario Wonder delivers on combining many of the most beloved and nostalgiac components of former 2D Mario adventures while avoiding the trap of feeling like an updated version of a previous game. My kids enjoyed the new features more than I did, with my 8-year old laughing hysterically every time I hop along as a crouched elephant Mario. I'll update as we continue our adventure...
A must have for any Mario fan or fan of platformers!

Fun platformer with a lot of character. Took me 10 hours to 100% this game and I enjoyed my time. Definitely has replay value to go back once every few months. The challenge stages are a lot easier from the game of my childhood, getting old, but was a good buy.
Definitely a thumbs up 👍

This is a very fun and modern take on the Mario formula. Colorful, well designed levels, lots of QoL additions, themed worlds, new good and mean characters, new features and a load of fun. I have been having a ton of fun with this game playing mostly on the tv. The music, sound and level design are amazing and it has plenty of replayability with such a varied roster of characters, multiple level endings and secrets. I highly recommend it to be played with company as it supports up to 4 players in couch co-op. I almost forgot the online mode, quite creative and helpful, it adds an extra level of enjoyment and ammusement to the game. Highly recommended from someone who has been gaming for more than 40 years and his young teenager 2 kids. 9.5/10.
Fun for whole family!!!

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is honestly one of the most fun games I’ve played on the Switch in a while. The graphics are super cute and colorful, everything just pops and looks really smooth. It has that classic Mario feel but with a lot of new little surprises and weird twists that keep it interesting. I wasn’t sure what to expect at first but I ended up getting totally hooked. Each level feels fresh and there’s always something new to discover, which makes it really replayable if you’re into collecting stuff or just like exploring every corner. It’s got that same Nintendo price tag as most of their big games, but in my opinion it’s totally fair for what you’re getting. If you like Mario games, you kind of know the deal, you’re paying for quality and this one definitely delivers. It’s super family-friendly too, so it’s fun to play with kids or just solo when you want to chill and have a good time. If you’re a fan of platformers or grew up playing Mario, this one is a no-brainer. Worth every penny if you actually plan to play it.
