Sharper Image Velocity Compressed Air Duster

Where do we begin here? Computers/devices and dust don’t mix, and keeping your equipment clean and free of debris can greatly increase the lifespan of your device. This unit is fanatic for dusting your equipment, desk, or any hard to reach area that perhaps a paper towel can’t access/touch. Since it’s rechargeable, it’s a one time investment that has paid for itself in the last 4 months of ownership. Not terribly loud either, I like the fact that the unit operates in a low frequency than others so it isn’t as ear piercingly annoying like other units are too. Battery life is great too.

I was hesitant to purchase this, because I thought it might not work as well as I hoped. My goal was to reduce/ replace compressed air which can be expensive.I find myself using this for many tasks, including taking my Lego sets outside and blowing any dust right off them. Makes it so much easier than trying to dust with a traditional cloth. I also use it for cleaning my keyboard, desktop, and I even used it to speed up drying time on an item.Power is 8/10 in comparison to compressed air. Battery life is phenomenal, versatility is there, and the size is just right. Highly recommend.

I saw this item in a you tube video but it was $59.99 and at the moment was out of my reach, but I noticed it goes on sale quite often and I jumped into the opportunity to get it at $35 works well and cheaper than getting compress air cans

The Sharper Image MACH 01X High Velocity Compressed Air Duster is a really good idea. I do not like to use anything with chemicals or propellants if it can be avoided, and do like to keep my equipment clean. The duster charged quickly and the charge lasted 2quite a while. I was able to go over my keyboard several times before it turned off (probably to prevent overheating). I was able to turn it on again second later.It turned out that the brush (though too large to get between the keys) was more effective than the compressed air, even on high. I must have some stubborn dust, but it does look like I am going to have to remove the key caps to effectively clean this keyboard. In any event, the duster did not clean it very effectively. I have to wonder if it has something to do with the ambient humidity here (tropical rain forest) ? Whatever it was that prevented it from effectively removing the dust between the kays... well, it did not do a very good job of it, even though I went over it several times. It did get some, and the brush was more helpful than I would have thought, but that was mostly for around the edges, because it is too large to ge between the keys.

The Sharper Image Mach 01X offers itself as an alternative to the compressed air dusters for computer cleaning and small dusting. The unit is a small, lightweight and rechargeable. There is a nozzle attached to the tube for additional cleaning.While powerful, the device is lacking. If you look at similar devices, many of them will come with attachments. One of them is an extension tube that compresses the air to allow for an even stronger more concentrated directed air flow. Without this, it is much more difficult to clean dirt and objects that are embedded in your keyboard.The Sharper Image also touts itself as a cleaner for home electronics and other items around the house. I tried it on my stereo system as well as the little nooks around my desk. I did not see any real difference afterwards,In summary, it seems to me for the price, the claims made for this device are only so much hot air.

In the product description, they close with "Cleaning with air doesn’t have to suck."I can remember visiting the "Sharper Image" store in SF back in the 80's. I do have respect for things with the Sharper Image name on them. So seeing this available was something I'd be sure to try. Recently took apart a Macbook Pro laptop to replace a battery and was shocked by the dirt / dust accumulation around the fan / keyboard. Those bottles with compressed error and the little tiny tubes have never been helpful.This little device takes blowing air to the next level. I cleaned my 3 Macbooks; keyboards, and hinge area in seconds (no frost accumulating) ... then cleaned the CNC router / controller board. In both cases, areas are too small to vacuum ... and try as you may, blowing on it with your mouth only introduces spit ... so this fills the need perfectly. With just two settings, high / low, I find that to be enough. I do everything on low, unless the dirt / dust / wood chip is stubborn, the high setting will blow it free. Using the CNC router, I engraved the base of a Christmas Tree ornament stand. The wood dust in the tiny 1/32" letter gaps had been tough to clean out, but just rubbing it with the brush while blowing, a huge dust cloud appears, exposing the perfect lettering.We have four different types of vacuums in this house, but none of them can do what this has easily done for me.I'm a big fan of having the right tool for the right job. You probably have similar things that could benefit from being cleaned with blown air, vs sucked air ... and if so, this is a really good fit. Stop spending money on compressed air cans (i.e Costco pack) when this will do it better - with a one time purchase.

I work with PCs for a living, and take apart and rebuild computers for a hobby. So I'm always in need of compressed air to blow out all the dust that accumulates inside a computer, particularly around the fans. This does an excellent job. It has two settings, high and low (more like "less high"). I pretty much just use it on the high setting as it seems to be the most effective. It is pretty loud though. So if you live with others might not be something you want to use while doing computer maintenance in the middle of the night.I've found that it's better than regular compressed air for a few reasons:- It's renewable. If it runs out, you just plug it in and charge it up for a while. Then you're ready to go again.- Usable at all angles. If you've ever used compressed air, you know you can't turn the bottle upside down, or even on it's side much. Otherwise the it starts spraying out water/vapor/something wet. Not something you want to do on electronics.- Takes up less space. I guess it probably takes about the same amount of space as 1 can of compressed air. But When I get compressed air, I usually buy a bunch of them at once. Those take up a lot of space. This does not.I think this is a great tool for any computer tinkerer to have because if you have a computer that you do maintenance on, you're going to need to clean it out with compressed air at some point. And compressed air isn't that cheap.

This thing blows SO HARD!! The Mach1 is heavy duty and will make it so you never have to waste $ on canned air ever again. The only complaint I have is I wish the blowing power was more variable and you could control the flow. The only settings it has is high and higher.And though the price is on the steeper end, this is very well made out of quality materials. And if you are replacing canned air it will eventually pay for itself. And man is this thing powerful!

I've really liked this duster more than the other one I have - probably because it's easier to store and doesn't come with 15 attachments that I've literally never used. It charges quickly and I've used it quite a few times and still have yet to recharge it. I can't speak on exactly HOW long it lasts, but you won't need to be constantly plugging it in. It's also quieter than my old one, which was a surprise. I wasn't even really thinking about the noise as it's something I expect with these, but surprisingly it's quieter than the other. The plastic housing seems well made and durable, no rough edges or any real flexing of the plastic. So far so good!

THE GOOD:---------------* Brand name we all recognize.* I was thinking do I really need to try another cordless air duster? There are so many off brand items I've tried, but I couldn't resist the Sharper Image name, so I gave it a shot. So does it feel significantly stronger than the off brand cordless dusters? Hmm, I couldn't really tell, but one thing that was noticeable was the build quality. This unit feels high quality, it has a good weight to it.* Easy to operate: Push trigger once, it turns on at full power. Push it again, it toggles to low power, push it a third time and it turns off.THE BAD:-------------* Not giftable, unless you provide your own box presentation.* If you're looking for power, nothing beats a corded 120v duster. If you're looking for a high quality cordless version to use around your table, this Sharper Image one is pretty good. 4-Stars.
