First impressions: Works as described.

Edit: Many years into the future I still recommend rocket books. I used this one book throughout multiple college degrees at this point. One notebook. That's wild. Sure after this many years the scratches from the pens have left marks on the pages but the fact a single notebook outlasted what would normally be upwards of 100 this thing is worth it. Whatever version Rocket Book is up to now, get it. To be clear this is a first impressions after I received the book and pens and tested them review. I had heard about these books in a youtube video about cool future tech stuff and thought they were neat. It took me a few months to actually buy one, but as I was going to start college again I thought it would be the perfect time to try something like this out. When I first received it the packaging was surprisingly cool and easily opened because it came in a tear open resealable bag similar to those you get large bags of candy in. It also came with a pen with the Notebook which was nice. I purchased the kit that came with the pack of pens as well so it's nice having an extra pen to add to that. I tested the book out by setting it up in the app and adjusting what the different symbols meant to do. I set the Diamond to send to Evernote and wrote my destinations inside the front cover as well as some test words on the first page. I then followed the microwave instructions that were listed on the package (and not in the book anywhere which was kind of sad so take a picture of the package!). After microwaving the book as instructed and letting it cool I opened it to see that the front cover and the first page were completely blank! Upon closer inspection it became clear that despite the ink being gone you could still see faint traces of the words I had written so this isn't 100% secret society or spy technology Unless you scribble across your notes before heating them up. The words were sufficiently gone enough that they did not interfere with being written on again. I can also say that if you don't let the book cool all the way any new writing will be slightly dulled by the residual heat left in the book but it won't disappear all the way. This leads me to wonder how hot the book can get before erasing and I would likely caution to not leave it in a hot car for a long period of time just in case it erases all your precious notes before you can upload them, or just upload your notes as soon as you're done writing them so you don't have to worry about that. If something negative occurs in my use of the notebook I will come back and update the review but for now I think between this and my smart pen notebook I may have the two coolest notebooks on the market. If only my smart pen and rocketbook were compatible...

Rocketbook is somewhat ok, but I think there are more convenient and more effective ways to do the same thing.

[See December 15th update about an improved notebook at the end of this review.] I've had the Rocketbook Wave for about a week. My initial impression is that it's ok, but not yet great. I like the idea that I can write in a notebook (or with paper available from rocketbook's website). But I can write on many notebooks, so there is no game changer here. I like the idea that I can scan the pages I wrote and then, relatively quickly, send those pages to a variety of cloud services or email accounts, using the Rocketbook app. But I can do that with other apps - like Scannable, scansnap, or scanner pro (among other apps). With the other apps, I can scan multiple pages into the same pdf or other file. I have not figured out how to do that with rocketbook, so with that app, i get separate pdf pages. I'm still looking for a way to fix that. I'm not crazy about the microwave feature for two reasons. The first reason is rocket books requires the microwave to have a rotating turntable. I have that, but my microwave is too small, so the book cannot rotate. I did not know about that constraint until I read the small print. The second reason is the notebook apparently lasts for about 5 erasures. Clearly not the last note book one will buy. So, after one week, I find myself wondering what the big deal is. I may be missing something. It seems to me buying a notebook you like, taking pictures of the pages you've written on with one of several functional scanner apps, and then sending them to your favorite cloud service does the same thing rocketbook does. But with less hassle. I'll keep using the rocketbook and the app for awhile longer, and revise this review if appropriate. December 15, 2016 update: Rocketbook is coming out with another version of their notebook. It's called the Everlast Notebook. It is due sometime in April 2017. The original notebook could be used about 5 times. The Everlast (according to the manufacturer) can be used about 1000 times. The original notebook was erased in a microwave oven. According to the manufacturer, "The Rocketbook Everlast can be reused by wiping the page clean with a moist towel." Search for "The Everlast Notebook" on kickstarter for details.
