OMG this mobo is amazing
By D. S on Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2023
OK, I know there is a lot of competition out there in the market of motherboards. There are absolutely better deals that can be found in regards to price to performance comparisons. Mother boards used to be cost conscious; now their prices are getting to extreme levels for those of you who are enthusiasts. If you are on a budget or want a board that has great performance, but won't hit your wallet so hard, this mobo might not be for you. With that said, if you have the budget, or if you've been saving for a computer build and you know what you want and you want to have options to explore now or grow into down the road, this board is AMAZING! If you are a gamer, get this board. If you want to explore water cooling, get this board. If you want to use plenty of m.2 drives rather than sata ssds, get this board. If you're into RGB and want plenty of configuration options, get this board. There are so many features, you won't be disappointed. And now for a few caveats. Scalpers have gotten bad. Not only do they scalp gpus, but aspect scalping mobos have become a thing. This board is already expensive enough. Scalpers but up the available stock and try to resell for $150-$600 over msrp. DO NOT BUY AT THIS PRICE! You can find much better boats for that price if you desire. But if you are patient, you will be able to find this board for msrp, so wait it out, purchase from a trustworthy source, and then enjoy all the possibilities this board brings. Next, the Armory Create software is a little buggy. It might be better to update your drivers one-by-one from asus website rather than using armory create, but I've noticed this isn't always the case for everyone. Personally, I feel Armory Crate comes with a lot of bloatware, and I found myself deselecting several programs during installation. But, whatever you do, absolutely upgrade your BIOS firmware. This board can handle DDR5 RAM at higher frequencies, but to utilize the XMP settings without compatibility issues, make sure you have the latest BIOS version. Updating is not as scary as people make it out to be, and it will ensure you have the latest security features and compatibility with the latest RAM. Another worthy mention is that I haven't upgraded my system in 7 years. The mobo I'm coming from is the old ROG z290 Maximus Code IX. It was a great board for the time, but that bugger is long outdated. Going from that board to this one is night and day. It cannot be stated how much of a performance boost this board allows for. But as there is such a huge leap in technology, I'll admit I'm a little biased because dang-near anything would have been a huge upgrade for me. TL;DR: If you have the money and want plenty of options and are an enthusiast, this board will be great for you; if you're on a budget or don't need all the extra functionality, there are much better options out there.

Little Did He Know, This Was The Battle Of a Lifetime........
By Bionic on Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2024
Never buy ASUS (This 5 min read will save you hours of headaches) Really quick had an issuse with Dell and they resolved the issue no questions asked no hair pulling, no charges, just a company doing the right thing for it's customers. This is how it should have gone..... Out of my 8 years in customer service I can safely say this was by far the worst, most frustrating, lie filled experience I've ever had with any company. Let alone the fact that this is a major "industry leading" company in the tech sector. I bought a brand new motherboard that was less than 7 months old on the consumer market. Not even 4 months after having this motherboard it literally has been giving me nonstop problems. I'm assuming that after paying for one of ASUS brand new motherboard it's either, this is covered under warranty or this is covered under my warranty. I built my own PC so i dont really ask for help unless theres a serious issue. (This was my second call) First, i was told to do a series of steps that I've already done myself but the first dude already had me do so that was literallty no help. Ontop of that she wasn't speaking clearly and was getting agitated with me through adding insane staccato with her pronunciation? Made no sense why i was trying to keep her calm. Then after i did the pointless stuff she told me to try a different LAN Port when my motherboard only has ONE. They ASKED for the make and Model at the beginning. Their own employees dont even know what they are doing. Moving on, even though it's covered I was told that to get new motherboard could take anywhere up to 3-4 weeks??? Those weren't the words they used of course. They fluff it with sweetness saying only 7-10 business days. Okay well right there that's 1-2 weeks ontop of shipping it to them (you pay for) which can take anywhere 5-7 business days and then sending it back. So another 5-7 business days, totaling around 3-4 weeks. How is this possible? I don't understand because as soon as I was told this I went on Amazon and I told them I could just get another shipped to my house overnight. They said they "understand my concern" ..... They told me they were out of stock originally. (If this is the case then there's a bigger issuse with the company's supply chain management) So I asked to get someone else on the phone so my issues could get resolved within a timely manner. Not WITHIN A MONTH. When I was transferred. The new dude was a piece of ART, somebody give this man an Oscar for lying to your face hours because that acting was phenomenal. Once we go through the same things the last person had me go through (no clue why if they are communicating with each other) we got to the point where he told me the same thing. I said this just won't work and I need to be escalated to the next person. I sat on the phone asking this man to transfer me when the only answer I would get was I understand your concern. Obviously you dont because I wanted to speak to someone else. and ab 10 min in he slips and says "if I transfer you" and this royal pissed me off because that means he was lying to me at some point. After this is when the battle happened. For the next 2 hours I was on the phone with the same dude pleading him to give me someone else because in customer service (like I did may times) if someone isn't happy with the experience you give them. GIVE THE CUSTOMER TO ANOTHER PERSON. We'll about an hour in this man literally started saying to me "No. No you will talk to me." Finally, by the grace of God and by me being a paying customer (more so God, they dont care about you clearly) I get him to transfer me. The heaven horns ringing, hallelujah, im seen as a customer! 5 Mins go by. The new guy says "Okay so like I told you 15 mins ago"..... Same guy.. ANOTHER LIE. What the F. Am i dirt!? This is how you treat your customers!! At this point I'm done. 3 hours now on the phone, I can't get any help. THEY WANT TO CHARGE MY ACCOUNT FOR A NEW MOTHERBOARD and it will still be 3-4 weeks for the one under warranty to be replaced..... Well at the end of it all through my yelling and bickering he finally told me that he was going to tell management (the people I wanted to talk to but he wouldn't let me because they didn't have a phone number or email, words out of this guy's mouth) that they would escalate my issue and cover the holding charges. THIS should have been the first thing this guy told me! But whatever I finally am getting closer to being treated like a real customer. I was told they will call me and send a follow up email. Never got the phone call but what I did get was an email. And yes your right, he lied about everything. not only did this email bring me all the way back to step one but they want to charge me again!!! Nobody communicated with one another at this company and if they did I'm somehow on a blacklist for customer service because all I wanted was to be treated like customer. Abysmal service, I truly mean this. I don't write bad review because i feel like they hurt more than they help. But i could not allow this to go unnoticed. Imagine a 385 billion dollar company treating you like this..... They have the money. They just could care less about you. If anyone is considering buying ASUS product. ⚠️HEAR MY WARNINGS ⚠️ PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO YOURSELF. THE BATTLES ARE LONG FOUGHT AND THEY WILL NOT BUDGE. DO NOT BUY ASUS. THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU ⚠️ And to anyone that has had similar experience, your trauma is recognized and it is shared. The scar marks this company leaves behind on its consumer grows ever bigger. Let these scars be a message to anyone that dares to cross phone lines with this terrible company. We are the ASUS SCAR!!

I've been using Asus ROG motherboards for several years when I build a computer and all have been of the highest quality, the ASUS ROG Maximus Z790 Formula is no exception! It is one of the heaviest motherboards I have ever put into a computer build but I am not complaining. I mounted the Formula into a Corsair 5000D case, so I had plenty of room, mounting the MB was easy, standoffs matched the MB screw holes perfectly. Installing the 2 M.2 2TB SSDs was easy (Samsung 2TB 990 Pro), make sure to remove all of the protective tape on the M.2 heatsinks. First SSD I forgot to remove the protective tape; second SSD I did then realized I did not remove it from the first SSD I installed so I had to go back and remove the SSD, and the protective tape. If you are wondering why I used 2, 2TB SSDs instead of one 4TB, well it was price, the 4TB cost more than 2 2TB SSDs combined. I also prefer to keep data files on the D drive and programs on the C drive. For cooling, I used a CORSAIR H150i RGB Elite Liquid CPU Cooler. Many times, the CPU cooler that mounts on top of the CPU is a bit cumbersome to mount because of there not being enough space due to the MBs design; this was not the case with this MB, cooler mounted easily with plenty of space for the water lines to route to the radiator. It's nice to have the extra PCIe 4 M.2 slots (4 total) plus one PCIe 5 slot. As I am sure the reader knows that PCIe 5 is new technology and is pretty pricey, so, because it's new tech, and pricey, I'm going to hold off on that for now. For memory, I installed 64GB of Corsair Vengeance 6400MHz DDR5 RAM. I am referencing the components I used in this build because too many people go high-end on some components and cheap on other components in the same build. If you are going to build a high-end machine and spend this kind of money, do it right, spend the extra money for the good stuff! I'm not go into all the specs of the new machine I built, but suffice it to say, it is fast!! My old machine, i9 9900K with a ROG Formula XI MB, and 2 Samsung SSD 860s, its fast but the new machine is super-fast. I copied files to a flash drive on the old machine, took about 6 minutes, I copied the same files from the flash drive to the new machine, they transferred in less than 15 seconds. That's it for now, I hope this helps others if they are considering this motherboard.

Excellent product and a fantastic price. Very fast delivery. Even faster installation of the motherboard. Two computers worked flawlessly without a single failure for two years with an Intel microprocessor I9-13900K and I9-14900k and an ASUS ROG MAXIMUS HERO motherboard Z790. There was not a single failure or freeze for two years.

I have always used ASUS motherboards and so I am very familiar with their lineup. While looking through MB's, I was lucky to see a pricing update while looking over Maximus Hero's product page. Amazon Warehouse had just added 50ish refurbished boards for incredible prices. Had a mixup with the carrier before finally getting my hands on it. The board I received was missing the manual(and if anything else not already mentioned, it was nothing that was necessary.) It was practically in new condition, and I have come to trust amazon warehouse purchases even though this turned out to be my first warehouse purchase that resulted in a return. Do not let this deture you from possibly getting an amazon WH product that has been inspected and reduced in price. I am still in the return process, but as long as you follow directions and know that this is a process if it occurs, you shouldn't be disappointed if you receive a problematic product. In my situation, after backing up everything and preparing for new build, I carefully assembled board into my case and secured everything. As I try to handle the CPU area as least as possible, I had not yet removed the cover over the pins until I was ready to place CPU. Unfortunately, found a slightly bent pin in the middle of a quadrant and spent the next few days deciding how to deal with this. 1 slightly bent pin can be repaired fairly easily with a razor blade and steady hands, as long as you know what you are doing, but with this being a refurb, and the pin being in the worst possible spot for potentially fixing myself, I ultimately opted to return. I cannot attest to whether this would have even caused issues or not, but I do know that I had not had chance to finish build and attempt first boots, so there's a chance I run in to another issue and then question if the pin I hoped I fixed was really fixed or not, as I had no prior data for successful boots. I felt I should submit this review, even though it pertains more to these kinds of issues that can potentially happen for us PC builders, the aftermath, and as objective of a review as possible. I was able to get this board for roughly 380 through amazon warehouse, and having never had any issues taking this kind of risk with used items, I felt it was worth the gamble. I doubt I will be able to find this board again for practically new condition, at this price, and that sucks. But with the price of all PC builder parts increasing more and more, this lineup is pretty much out of my price range with the 700 series introduction. So if you are in the same boat, take my review as whether trying this route to potentially save money is worth it as a yes. Just make sure you know what your standards are for each part you are willing to attempt buying used, and you should be fine, even if issues arise. I am currently waiting for my return process to finish, and I will update with the results when I find out. I felt this board has value even with the bent pin, and should definitely be fixed by someone who is capable and has right tools. I left a small notice inside of package to try and speed up return inspection by describing bent pin and where to find it, so even though the ToS for returns did not mention to do this, I felt it would speed up/ease a return for a refurbed product.

It’s been about 6 months since I built my computer. This is has done its job. It moves quickly and the wifi adapter is much better than the dongle I was using on my last build. I also like the BTF style as it really helps cable management. It’s kind of a pain to set up because you have to install the drivers to get anything else to work rather than have things work out of the box. I dock it a 2 stars because I originally tried to install a Crucial T705 drive and it wouldn’t work, which I verified on the asus website as compatible. I tried to work with asus support and they wouldn’t believe it was compatible despite it listed on its site and they wanted to argue with me. The support staff even kicked me from chat so I couldn’t give feedback when I started getting frustrated by their argumentative nature because I guess they didn’t want to bother. In the end I had to fix the issue myself. I had brand preference for asus for a while but the incompetence of support, willingness to leave customers high and dry with tougher issues, and potentially incorrect list of compatible HDs and SSDs on the website was not a good move. So potential buyers, keep that in mind if you need support. I’m probably going to consider different brands on my next build because of the experience.
