Highly recommend for starters

Great little hydroponics garden. I bought this for my son for Christmas and it's been awesome. I like the locking feature for the net pots. My only recommendation is to buy a two part liquid fertilizer separately because I didn't get much functional use out of the fertilizer provided since it didn't dissolve well and generally just made a mess of the bottom of the water tank

Buyer Beware

I recently purchased the "Back to the Roots 33006 Hydroponic Grow Kit Refill Pack" in hopes of rekindling my indoor gardening passion, and unfortunately, I am left not only disappointed but also thoroughly frustrated. While I appreciate the concept of hydroponic growing and was excited to give this kit a go, my experience was far from satisfactory. I meticulously followed the instructions provided to ensure optimal conditions for growth, but I must sadly report that out of the three refill packs, one failed to germinate completely. The sight of an unchanging, inert grow kit every day was not exactly what I had envisioned when I placed my order. The other two, though they did show some initial promise, didn't last very long either. Despite my best efforts at providing consistent care as per the directions, they both met their untimely demise, leaving me questioning the quality of the seeds included in the pack. In a time when we are so dependent on products to work as promised, it is disheartening to have put faith in a product that simply did not deliver. It's even more frustrating because the failure was not due to any negligence on my part. For these reasons, I regretfully cannot recommend the "Back to the Roots 33006 Hydroponic Grow Kit Refill Pack" to anyone. It seems that the product does not consistently live up to its promise, making it a risky choice for those who are serious about their indoor gardening endeavors.

Bought this for a family members birthday that didn’t necessarily want one. She brought it to work and she is so happy and now everyone in the office wants one. Very happy with the purchase

First of all don't forget to open up the water tank when you set it up and remove the packing tape from your pump. I almost missed it! Ok so when this thing is going the pump turns off and on automatically and the light is on a 16/8 timer. I bought it to help propagate cuttings from other plants. I did plant 1 of the holes with the seeds included. None of the cilantro grew and I'm waiting on the other seeds to see now that the pump stated magically working again. Ok so the pump worked until I decided to change the time the light was on from over night to day time. To do this unplug the unit wait a minute then plug it in at the exact time you want it to turn on for the day. It will shut off automatically in 16 hours then turn on again in 8. And when the pump runs this is so set it and forget it I love it. Plus it came with a little food for them. But like I said that pump is hit or miss on if it works. Right now it's been going strong for 3 days 🤞. I'm out of the return window so at least the light works. And the light works GREAT all of my plants are big and dark green below it so at least I have that.

I ordered one of these for my Granddaughter but when it arrived the seeds, growing guide and seed sponges were missing. I contacted Back To The Roots and they got back to me right away, asked me to list what was missing and give them my address. When I did all this they replied, again right away, that they were sending replacements immediately. It looks like a quality product and I know my granddaughter will love watching her own plants grow. Thanks Back To The Roots for great customer service.
Very solid little machine, wait for a sale.

This was my first ever hydronic (aeroponic) machine, which has has become quite the hobby for me. Of the 5 brands of machines I've tried, this one is probably the highest quality - a well designed little square with 2 very sturdy arms holding up the light tray that looks worthy of an apple sticker. As small as it is, it telescopes out to allow plants to grow further than I would have expected. The pods are also nicely spaced - I've found I can grow 2 smallish chinense pepper varieties in mine without being crowded. The LEDs seem to put out enough light for anything I've grown, and the fact that there's only 2 blue lights would seem to indicate the white lights are higher quality (or so I've read). It's quieter than most I've tried and I've my little kill-a-watt device tells me it consumes about 8 watts while the pump is running. The baskets are probably a better design than the industry standard aerogarden ones overall as they lock in to place: And that's where the downside begins - The baskets are unique and relatively expensive, I've only found 1 other type of basket that will fit in the machine. The 20-20-20 plant food also leaves a lot to be desired, and likely wiped out my first crop after I let the total dissolved solids build up too high with very light feeding herbs. The basil seeds that came with it did very well, but I question the inclusion of cilantro for numerous reasons. Finally and probably most importantly is the price. The MSRP on their website is significantly higher than the aerogarden sprout and frankly absurd - that said I'm not sure I've seen it without some sort of discount applied. Even with the normal 50ish percent discount, I'd say it's over priced - but having paid about half of that again I feel I got a bargain. Overall I'd say it's a very good machine but maybe not actually a good "starter kit" - If I were to see them at the price I paid initially, I'd probably buy 2-3 more.
Be Patient And You Too Can Grow Fresh Herbs

This is a good quality hydroponic grow kit for your kitchen countertop at only 7" wide x 5 3/4" deep it takes up very little space, less than my toaster in fact. I highly recommend that you 'soak the seeds' for a good week before putting them into the pods as follows: Wet a paper towel Add seeds to the paper towel Place the paper towel inside a sandwich bag Place somewhere warm Wait about 5-7 days for them to germinate and then place the sprouts into the pods Once 2 of the 3 types of seeds sprouted, it took about 1 month to get to where they are today as shown in the photos. Like other reviewers stated, the Cilantro didn't sprout for me either, it turned moldy and I used some seeds I had at home for the front left spot where the Cilantro was... Once they start growing well, it is important to remember to raise the lights up or you will damage your herbs by being too close to the heat of the lamps... Also, make sure to re-fill the water tank with water or it will go dry in time. It's wonderful to have herbs ready to use, fresh when you're cooking, much cheaper than store bought one and better tasting also.
It is not very good.

It is very small! It's fairly sturdy. It came with cilantro, red basil and Italian basil. I put 3 seeds of cilantro, cilantro did not grow. The seeds just got moldy. After 2 weeks I changed them out for new seeds, they got moldy again. I just put 3 Italian basil seeds in the pod that had the cilantro. I put four seeds each red basil and Italian basil to start with. The Italian basil started growing fairly quickly. The leaves started to turn yellow/green the taller it got. The red basil grew maybe three or four days then stopped. I just changed the red basil out for new seeds, just 3 seeds. Hopefully they do better this time. I did put plant food in when it said to. The water circulator does not circulate very well. It barely moves the water around. Oh, the instructions said that there was an on/off switch. ?? Um, no. No on/off switch. I wish companies would not just put one set of instructions in for multiple products. Or, they decided to NOT put an on/off switch in anymore and didn't bother to update the instructions. Whatever the reason, meh. I will plant my leftover seeds in dirt when I get the chance. Yeah, I did give this another chance aaaaaand it sucks. I can see why they only guarantee they sprout, not guarantee they grow. Because they do not grow. They sprouted and immediately died this last time.
Takes forever to germinate / sprout, and then they die!

My wife and I purchased this as a way to grow some basic herbs during the winter. We both have decent green thumbs and routinely do well gardening. That said, we've tried several times to germinate the basil included with this kit. Each time it takes a very long time for them to sprout. Once sprouted, they take even longer to actually grow. Once they finally reach about 1/2" tall (two months later) they wilt and die. This is a great concept, but something is lacking in the execution. Of course, it may have been user error somehow - but it's not rocket science and it's marketed as being fairly straight forward. Aside from that, the grow light is also kind of annoying to have inside the house. Our kitchen is white cabinets & tile backsplash, and the reflected light from this unit bathed the entire kitchen and living room area in a pink glow.
As simple as it gets. But be careful

If you're anything like me, you probably saw this product and imagined growing basil, parsley, cherry tomatoes, strawberries, and all kinds of edible plants right on your kitchen. And for the most part, you'd be right. The kit brings everything you need and the instructions are simple enough to be followed by children as a fun project. But I will state something obvious: it can still go wrong. My cilantro wouldn't sprout after a month of germination despite using the seed packets that came with the box. My red basil would not grow, and all the sprouts would dry out and die despite having a full reservoir of water. My sweet basil grew to be 4 inches before toppling over and dying. You still need to be mindful of the plants, be careful with their needs, and take care of them. Put the lights at the right height, don't take off the germination domes early, keep the tank full, and trust the process while still keeping a close eye on anything odd. I'm not sure how I managed to kill all my plants, but I'm going to start again. Thankfully the kits bring enough seeds for a few tries.
