Whoa! A beast.
By MartyBoy on Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2024
When it arrived my first impression was not entirely enthusiastic. This thing didn't look particularly rugged or powerful. I looked it over, went over to a pear tree with too much height and growth to trim it. Jeepers, yah the thing was heavy and I was not used to it, but I quickly found out this thing CUTS! And pear wood is super hard. Forget first impressions, this is no toy. I took some limbs off the pear tree as thick as 8 to 10 inches. You gotta watch these heavy limbs coming down don't klonk you an the head. The saw has a slight hesitation built in to start the cut then accelerates powerfully and digs into the branch throwing plenty of wood chips down as it cuts. Wear safety glasses! I had fifteen 30 to 40 foot cedars forming a privacy shield for my gazebo behind them. Boy, they had grown and gotten out of control over the last 20 years since I last trimmed them. Truthfully, they were a challenge, with 6 of them growing over the telephone and electric lines coming into the house. But a sound plan and cautious cutting allowed me to clean all those branches in the wires. (No, I could not reach the electric wires and had no wish to be electrocuted) I left 5 trees standing and cut the rest with the pole saw and it's sister, the Denali chain saw. Slow, careful work can affect wonderful change. I had to cut small branches at a time as I had fruit trees i did not want to harm. Yes for an old man like me or many women the 8 ft reach is heavy and the 12 foot reach pole included with the saw is a handful. But man, does it do the work! Don't forget to fill the oil reservoir to save the chain and bar. This is a useful, powerful, well designed and built tool. I found it a wonderful upgrade from a corded pole saw I had which was heavier, no more powerful and not nearly as handy. This is no toy! Highly recommended. .

Worked great for a little while, then didn't work at all

The saw cut well for what it is, and met my needs well enough for about 3 months before it stopped working. I had filled the chain oil twice, and there was 1/2 tank of chain oil left when the saw failed. There was only a faint click down inside the saw someplace, the motor doesn't run. Ther brake was off, the chain could be moved freely by hand. Possibly a failed relay or switch? I don't know. The Skil brand had a 5 year warranty. When I called Amazon said there was a 1 year warranty. They opted to refund the purchase price instead of repairing my saw.
