Excellent performance; Renewed offers compelling value; Xfinity installation challenges
By JKB on Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2024
My experience so far is that the refurbished product worked with outstanding performance compared to my old equipment. When you consider that significant discount for purchasing a refurbished version, the value is very compelling. The challenge was in the installation process. I downloaded the Xfinity app and tried to install myself. The app is pretty straightforward, you enter the new addresses related to the product and Xfinity is supposed to recognize the changed modem and activate it. I tried several times and that didn't work. Next I tried the online support affiliated with the app. The person on the other end sounded very professional and entered the same address info I previously manually entered. We were able to get the Internet portion to activate but not the phone line. So, after about 90 minutes going through these 2 steps, I had a tech support person call my cell phone. She said that the equipment had not been changed in the system. Seemed like a strange statement given that she did not ask me for the addresses of the device. After several attempts to activate the Internet and then the phone line, we finally were able to get the latter activated. All told, about a 2 1/2 hour process...ughhh. The Netgear modem combined with the TP-Link AX5400 WiFi 6 Router offer great performance---couldn't be happier as compared to my dated Xfinity leased equipment. Needed a personal reboot to erase the anxiety from the installation before I could enjoy the new technology however--there is no tech support for this aspect of the install:)

Works for three months, then fails
By Henny Penny on Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2025
First the pros: this was easy to set up, it works with Xfinity, and it provided a very fast and stable connection. But now the cons: after three months of use, this device now spontaneously loses its connection (even though Xfinity hasn’t been having any outages in my area) on average twice each week. I called customer service about this, but they told me that because all of my lights are on in the display panel, my issue is with the router. I called Ring customer service for assistance with my connection and everything always resets once we merely unplugged and reconnect the modem. So now, I do this at least twice each week. I’ve had this device since June and it began to fail in September. I’ve given up on calling customer service because it’s a joke and they don’t actually want to replace this. So I’m holding out for another few months for when my actual squaretrade warranty kicks in so that I can replace this POS modem which I will never purchase again. I’m switching back to Motorola next time or Arris. This device has been such a disappointment. I strongly recommend that you avoid.

Comcast Compatible Modem with Voice and DOCSIS 3.1

The Nighthawk CM2050V cable modem is a good replacement for the Xfinity cable modem/wifi router I had for over two years. It needs, however, a wifi router to completely replace the functionality of the Xfinity modem. For that, I paired it with a D-Link AX6000 wifi mesh router. I was happy using the Xfinity modem but like most Comcast customers, I needed to make the subscription price more affordable. I decided to save on the equipment rental. Choices are limited for Comcast-compatible modems with voice support. It is either a Netgear or Arris modem. The renewed Nighthawk came at a very affordable price. Installation of this modem was easy, and its activation was quick using the Xfinity app. Voice, LAN, and wifi connections have been stable for more than 2 weeks. I expect that it will continue to be the case. Download and upload speeds are as good as the Xfinity modem it replaced. The renewed Nighthawk modem is a great buy.

This was a refurbished modem, but other than having to call Xfinity to have the Mac address re-provisioned it has worked flawlessly.

Very prompt and polite when i contacted the seller. Received the item in only 4-days. The Modem works well. had no issues connecting to Xfinity for internet and phone. I used the Xfinity App on the iphone and entered the MAC address from the bottom of the modem, 5 minutes later everything is working.

I have tried 2 of this model now. I thought the first might be defective. But despite xfinity technicians best efforts for an hour and a half, it can't establish a steady connection. I was doing fine with my 800mbps T25 modem, but was hoping to take advantage of full 1.2Gig service.

Just what I needed to replace my CM1200 so that I can enjoy my new speeds of 1GB from Xfinity. Refurbished hardware seems to be the way to go, I have not had any issues with them and the cost savings are worth it.
Works fine but difficult connection

Instructions were clear and easy to follow until trying to connect to Xfinity. The App is supposed to make the connection process easy - and it would if it worked. Ended up calling Xfinity tech support. It took 50 minutes and multiple attempts by a pleasant and persistent agent to get the phone line to work. It's working well now, but the connection process should be easier.
Terrible UX during Setup

I bought this router with the intention of using it as a mesh router -- the setup process is a complete disaster. Basically, I have to connect the new mesh node (this router) to a laptop or PC that is already connected to the mesh router (existing router). Most modern notebooks do not come with ethernet port anymore. Conversely, PCs may or may not include a wifi card/dongle. Asus believes consumers have PCs and Notebooks (NB) that have both. Evidently, I decided to use my father's old notebook (which has both wifi and an ethernet port) to try to setup this up -- only to end up in a loop in the setup web app. Long story short -- this has been a waste of a Sunday. There are better mesh Wi-Fi routers out there. Asus could do a way better job in providing a decent UX. It's literally easier and simpler to setup a Eufy network camera node than this asus brick.
