Makes the great little pebble ice in a small quantity...
By Bilbo on Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2023
We've been looking for a countertop ice maker that makes the little chewable pebble-sized ice cubes you find at Sonic and other restaurants, but don't have the space nor the need for one of the dishwasher-sized units that makes hundreds of pounds of ice. This one fits on our kitchen counter right under our cabinets (no need to get to the top for any reason) and makes a basketful of ice moderately quickly. This isn't one that you have to hook up a water supply to; you simply pull out the ice drawer and fill the reservoir under it, replace the drawer, turn it on and off it goes. It will stop making ice when the basket is full, and keeps the ice cold as long as you keep it turned on; otherwise the ice will melt, and the water goes back into the reservoir for the next icemaking session. We do not leave it on all of the time because it will try to suck water out of the reservoir as long as the basket's not full; we make a bunch and bag up the unused ice and put it in our freezer. We bought a dented one for quite a discount and it came with a better return policy than usual. I would say the only downsides of this would be that you can't leave it on with an empty reservoir because it makes that pump-sucking-air sound which is a little noisy (for good purpose, I imagine), and it doesn't make a large amount so forget supplying your party guests with lots of ice. It runs fairly quietly so it's not distracting. We didn't buy the extra side reservoir tank because we just don't make that much ice at one time, and you don't want lots of water sitting in the unit for a long period of time. We use bottled spring water because our tap water has a lot of minerals in it and would cause us to have to do the cleaning/descaling procedure frequently.

ABSOLUTE GARBAGE
By Pez on Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2023
DO NOT BUY! I regret the day I bought this thing. The first one was a dud. After a month or two of owning it, it was loud and the blue light of death came on no matter what I did. I should have just returned it to Amazon then but I decided to go through the manufacturer who gave me a new one. This one as much quieter than the first and worked for a while but the yellow cleaning/needs frosting light started coming on more and more often. I called the manufacturer--because at this point the return window from Amazon has closed and I don't have the original unit--and I tell them I just want a refund at this point. They tell me that they only handle warranties and can't issue a refund. They then gave me a list of things to do to "troubleshoot." More and more I am regretting not just sending the damn thing back.I've done all the things they asked and it's still having issues. They are closed on the weekend so I have to wait until Monday to call again. I wish I never bought this thing. UPDATE: 5/8 Contacted GE again and they offered to send a 3rd unit. Still refused to issue a refund for the product. I wonder how many they will try to send me before the warranty runs out? I really hope there is a class action lawsuit in the works for this garbage machine. UPDATE UPDATE I took a chance and contacted Amazon about the issue. They said they were willing to issue a partial refund (minus a restocking fee, etc.). At this point something is better than nothing!! I cannot stress this enough. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT!
