A Step Back in Sleekness
By madnuk on Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2024
As a longtime Apple enthusiast and proud owner of the first-generation iPad, I was excited to upgrade to the 9th generation model. However, I must admit, my enthusiasm quickly turned to disappointment when I realized just how much bulkier and less sleek this new version feels in comparison. First off, let’s talk about the aesthetics. The 9th generation iPad has a more rounded and robust design that, while functional, lacks the elegance and simplicity that defined its predecessor. The thicker bezels are noticeable and give off a clunky vibe that might remind some users of earlier tech designs. In an era where slim profiles and lightweight devices reign supreme, the iPad 9 feels a bit dated. Moving on to usability, the performance of the device is commendable—I can certainly appreciate the hardware upgrades and improved processing speed. Whether it’s streaming videos, browsing the web, or using creative apps, it performs like a champ. However, when you hold it in your hands, the heft of the 9th generation model is palpable, detracting from the user experience that once felt so fluid and effortless. The display quality remains vivid, delivering stunning visuals for all your media needs, but I can't help but miss the more compact, sleek feel of my first-gen iPad. In a world where portability is key, the increased weight makes it less convenient for those who like to carry their devices everywhere. Another point deserves mentioning: the pricing strategy. While Apple has worked to keep the 9th generation iPad affordable, one can't help but feel that this device could have adopted some of the sleekness and design elements of its more premium siblings, especially given the iconic reputation of the iPad brand. In conclusion, the iPad 9th generation offers impressive performance but falls short in the sleekness department compared to my beloved first-gen model. It’s a solid tablet, no doubt, and it serves its purpose well; however, it left me craving that lightweight, elegant feel I’ve grown to love. Hence, I’m giving it a solid three stars—it’s functional, but the sleekness I expected just didn’t make the cut.
