My Dick Tracy watch
By SEA-town on Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2025
This is a great addition to my health journey. The Samsung Health app lays out all of the monitoring the watch does in useful data. Using with the apps on my Samsung phone is convenient. Altimeter more precise than what I'm used to. Too much to list. A great part of the Samsung Universe. Plus, I can talk to people through my watch just like Dick Tracy does. Sci-Fi come to life.

Battery Life is Not That Good
By BJ Rafferty on Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2022
First off, the watch I purchased was the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic (46mm) Bluetooth Edition. I love Samsung products. I've only ever had Samsung smartphones (S4, S7, S9, and currently an S21). Amazing quality and battery life for most of those phones. When I heard about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 1, I wanted to get it so bad. I got it for Christmas in 2020. I still have that watch to this day, and the battery is going VERY STRONG on it! I slept in bed with it on and when I woke up it was only down to 98%! Without charging it, I went to work and 8 hours later the battery went down to 78% (with AOD and 10 minute interval heart rate monitoring). Such an amazing watch and battery life. So, getting to the point, I ordered this watch (thinking it was going to be an upgrade to my original Galaxy Watch... And don't get me wrong, it definitely is an upgrade with certain features (health monitoring, Wear OS instead of Tizen OS, and it just looks more modern). But that battery... It is one of the worst batteries I've ever had in a Samsung device. It didn't even last me a full day's charge under normal use (AOD with 10 minute heart rate monitoring). I went to sleep with the watch, and when I woke up with this watch the battery was down to about 78%. Already not a good start. So I went on with my work day, with the same settings as my original Galaxy Watch (almost the same AOD, and 10 minute interval heart rate monitoring) and the watch didn't even last me the entire work day. It died at about 6.75 hours. This is already a deal breaker for me, but I had two more problems with this watch. The second problem I had was that the rotating bezel on the Classic edition was very loose, and made a metal "clinking" noise when I tapped on the top of it (as there was so much of a gap between the watch and the bottom of the bezel, when I tapped it, it came in contact with the watch). I didn't think much of it, but then I started reading more about it and most people say it's a defective watch and that you need to get it replaced under warranty to fix it. The third problem I have with this watch is that the Galaxy Wearable app would fail setup 90% of the time, I had to restart the watch probably 10 times and reinstall the Galaxy Wearable app at least twice and remove all my existing wearables to get it to finally link. Overall, I would recommend this watch if you don't plan on using it for most of the day, and are fine with having it on a charger for the majority of it's life. I personally have returned the watch and I'm going to be buying the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro to see if it is any better in terms of battery life (it should be seeing as it's 61% larger!).

I've used this watch for a few months and I find myself going back to my Fitbit Sense. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 has numerous problems. First among them are very poor battery life. I had to recharge this watch every day or risk having it completely discharge while on my wrist. Another issue is with the promised apps (e.g. ECG and blood pressure). They do not work....period. Both apps require you to be "outside the US" and have a Samsung phone in order for it to even be downloaded. Oh yes, there is a convoluted workaround that you can download off the web from a third party but if you have any problems with your phone or change phones you have to go through the whole process again. The blood pressure app is not accurate anyway and you have to keep calibrating the app with a real blood pressure monitor to even use it. Update After 9 Months of Use... Actually this watch has grown on me. At least it works much better than the Fitbit Sense (the Fitbit Sense will not auto-update the hour after crossing a time zone resulting in late/missed appointments). This Samsung works fine in that regard and most everything else on it works correctly. The battery issue is still there but I got around it by dimming the screen a little and turning off "always on" for the display. Still have to charge every morning which is a pain. ECG and blood pressure apps still do not work. I keep a self-wind watch in reserve.
Wow - it's got it all!

The only negative I can think of is the Google Assistant - it is supposed to be on the phone but is not. Major mistake by Samsung. However, I am hearing that it will be out soon. In the mean time, it's got everything I need. The health stats - don't use them. Some of the other exercise sensors - don't use them. But, I did try them and they are quite good. The heart rate and other data is available, if you want that sort of stuff. What I absolutely like is the Outlook, the phone, the reminders, everything else that I need during the day. Wish the battery life was better - I get 2 days to a charge. If you use the biometrics plan on only a day, at most. The watch charges fast so 30 minutes on the charger each day keeps it above 50%. I get email, text, messages, weather and other "business" information so it serves me well.
So far, so good!

Likes: Battery life is excellent, after wearing it all day it still has about 67% when I go to bed. It is light weight and very comfortable. It gets all of my notifications, email, texts, etc. Moans and niggles: The battery was stone dead upon arrival. I had to go through the setup process twice before it would take---operator error? Instructions? Ha, forget about that! Sign of the times, I guess. The strap it comes with is pretty cheap, I have already ordered replacements. And speaking of the strap, for some reason Samsung went with a 20mm lug width instead of 22mm. This precludes me from using the straps from my gear 3. Overall I am quite happy with the watch.

The watch easily linked to my Samsung phone and does more than I expected. I was pleasantly surprised by the EKG monitoring. Battery life could be better, but overall I am very satisfied with the watch and would recommend it.

I have been a traditional analomg watch guy for most of my life, but at a point a few years ago, my main watch stopped working and when I was considering the repair/replacement options, I decided to try a smart watch. I love that I have a face on it that looks almost identical to my analog watch. And then on top of that, I can track my steps, heartrate, stress level, sleep, etc., as well as see text messages, calendar notifications, reminders, and even answer my phone and talk on it if needed. The only thing that sucks in any way is that I have to charge this watch every other day or so, but I'm already charging all these other devices, so it doesn't become too bad. I'm just not very consistent with a charging schedule, so I often get a "low battery" notification when I am already out or just about to go somewhere. About 4-5 times a year, my watch with die on me because I didn't charge it, haha. Obviously, that's on me and not the fault of the product. Great watch!!

The watch is what zip expected. However, it didn't have a User Manual. There are many apps and options on the phone. A User Manual would be very helpful to understand how to use all the aps and options.
