Great Deal On An Expandable PC
By deep_groove on Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2021
I found this great deal on a refurbished unit. My initial delivery, which arrived late, turned out to be a completely different machine. I complained and got a 50 dollar Amazon credit. Cool. They then sent the correct PC. (Was that Amazon's fault or the seller...?)It's a pretty bare-bones unit, but I wanted it for the 10th gen i7 processor. First thing I did was remove the measely 8GB RAM and inserted 64GB (2 sticks of 32, which is the max this board will take.) I then tossed the 1TB 3.5" HDD (seriously- I threw it away. I work in IT and these are relics from another age.)I replaced the 16GB Optane memory with a 1TB Evo Plus SSD. I threw in another 1TB SSD for music storage and actually kept the oprical drive for ripping CDs.I also added a 50 dollar StarTech USB to HDMI video adapter, as I was concerned about adding a video card on this very light-weight 180 watt power supply and wasn't going to go with VGA out to one of my two monitors. All parts were purchased on Amazon. Now I have my new desktop/media server.Cool thing is, I sold my 2 year-old gaming machine (I don't game, I just had to have a PC as good as the one I built for my step-son) and got this one for half the price.

Useless 1tb HD
By Russell on Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2022
HP made the default windows install that comes on this computer dependent on two separate storage devices. This comes with a 1tb HD and a 16gb stick of M.2 on the board. If either of these is swapped or replaced, you cannot boot the system. Nor can you format the drives or back it up onto another disk. I'm sure it's possible with some tools but wow. To make it that difficult to swap some new drives in and back up the OS. Crazy. I'm using this as a DVR machine for my security cameras at my work. Blue Iris camera software focuses hard on CPU utilization and GPUs don't really help so this was my answer. Seems to work fine with 12 cameras on its streaming feeds.
