(Still a) Great Smart TV
By Joel M. on Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2024
***UPDATE - 6 Months: Original Review Underneath I've come back around for an update for my Amazon fireTV experience to say it is still a wonderful TV. The two that I purchased both are. I understand in other reviews that farther down the line it seems that they might just "stop working" but so far they have been working flawlessly. I am the type of person that upgrades my TV's every 3 years or so anyway, so if they stop working around then I will just take at as a sign to get a new one. But that's just me. I take things in stride and for a smart TV that I got on sale for less than $400, I mean, come on. If you math that out that's less than most people pay monthly on ONE streaming service. Even if you paid full price, calm down. I have still have no graphical errors, the colors are strong, there is no tearing or dead pixels in either unit. They both get daily use, hours of daily use. I have a soundbar on one unit and which obviously increases the sound quality. The audio on the unit without the soundbar still produces decent sound, slightly above standard TV quality, unremarkable but nothing to complain about. They get plenty loud, so that's never been an issue. I have one unit named "Alexa" and one named "Echo". You can go into the menu and change the settings to rename the voice recognition options. So I can speak to the TV's independently. Speaking of, you still have to use the remote people. Voice control only goes so far, it goes very far actually, you can do most everything by voice, but selecting things with the remote is still required on occasion. (I like setting my sleep timer by voice at night, "Alexa, set sleep timer 20 minutes", when I'm laying in bed with my Pandora/Hulu app running.) ALSO, for everyone talking about slowdowns. Every time you open an app, it stays running in the background. It's like a phone or tablet. You open Disney+ then finish what you're watching, then go to the homescreen, Disney+ is still open in the background. Then you open Paramount+, then go to the homescreen, now Disney+ and Paramount+ are running in the background and so on and so forth, to infinity and beyond. I have never experienced a slow down to that degree yet but I would try doing a TV restart every night/morning (takes 90 seconds). I restart my TV's about once a week just as a preventative measure anyway. The only caveat I cannot speak to is the customer service problem, the frustration and pure exasperation I see is real. So I empathize with everyone who has had to deal with all of their issues. My TV's have worked flawlessly since purchase so I have never needed to contact any service reps. *** ORIGINAL REVIEW So I've been waiting a while to write this review to get a decent feel. Honest opinion, AWESOME television. Amazing value, picture quality was great. Color/contrast didn't need adjusting right out of the box (personal opinion obviously) but you can tweak to your hearts desire. Alexa listened and responded promptly. I could just step through my front door and ask her to turn the TV on and within seconds I was at the main screen. Speaking of the interface, I found it quite intuitive. Not to disparage anyone but if you have a general understanding of how computers and/or other smart devices like smart phones work you shouldn't have a problem (QR codes might be the most difficult for those with less experience). Easy to setup and connect. Easy to connect to all your subscriptions and apps. To be honest, my TV came preinstalled with someone else's amazon account loaded, but luckily there are steps involved that make it impossible for someone to just log straight in. I just removed their account and had to take a few extra steps to add mine, again, fairly straight forward. The only issues I've run into are on a rare occasion there is a very slight lag when scrolling through apps. But if you just go into settings and do a TV restart it clears right up. All in all, at the price with the quality. A must buy. Addendum: I will concede I do not connect external hard drives or any other devices as of yet but my XBOX connects flawlessly. Great TV! Edit: For those worried about Alexa listening all the time, there is a hard flip switch directly underneath the "firetv" symbol under the center of the screen. Once you flip that the only way to control the TV is through the remote and Alexa no longer responds to voice commands and "allegedly" no longer receives any input. You can still speak to the remote as you would to Alexa while holding down the blue Alexa button as usual. In fact you don't even need to use the "Alexa" prompt, you can just say "Netflix" or "Bob's Burger's". P.S. A TV so nice I bought it twice.

Clindsay Elliana has joined and will be ready to chat in just a minute. Clindsay Elliana | Customer Service Hello, Danny. How may I help you with your order? C8:36 PM I did not receive a full return on the fire tv we purchased. It was still under Warrenty and stopped working. Why wasn't the full refund issued. 8:36 PM Clindsay Elliana | Customer Service I'm sorry that you haven't received your full refund. No worries, I'll be more than happy to help you with this. May I place you on hold for a minute or two while I check on this for you? C8:37 PM that is fine, thank you 8:37 PM Clindsay Elliana | Customer Service I'm sorry to keep you waiting. May I have another minute or two to check this further? C8:40 PM that's fine, I'm checking emails. 8:40 PM Clindsay Elliana | Customer Service Thanks for waiting. Since this is a heavy bulky item, I'll need to connect you to a specialist so they can help you. C8:43 PM A ANNIE has joined and will be ready to chat in just a minute. ANNIE | Customer Service Hello Danny, Annie here to assist you today! Hope you are doing well! Apologies to know that the refund was incorrect Please be rest assured I will put in my best efforts to help you out A8:45 PM I am thank you. I am hoping you can clear up the refund issue. 8:45 PM ANNIE | Customer Service Of course! can you please confirm if you returned replacement order or the original order? A8:46 PM I did. I received an email stating it was received and the refund was only $330. something. We spent $418 something 8:46 PM ANNIE | Customer Service No no, I meant did you return replacement order or the original order? A8:47 PM Yes. Both Tv's had the same issue. They would cut off and the controller would not cut them back on. We would have to take the TV off the wall to unplug it for 15 minutes 8:48 PM ANNIE | Customer Service Thank you for confirming Danny Let me check what best I can do for you. Please allow me 2 minutes while I consult with my leadership team Thank you for your time and patience Danny A8:58 PM and? 8:58 PM ANNIE | Customer Service The restocking fees was charged by the seller which they can on electronic returns This fees is non refundable A8:59 PM the items were defective.... why are they restocking defective items? 8:59 PM ANNIE | Customer Service However, as only an exception, I can issue a $82.68 Promo credit to your account Would that be okay? A8:59 PM that would explain why the second tv had the same problems, I assume. I am fine with the credit, however this was an amazon tv... who is holding the money? We bought the TV because it was Listed as an amazon tv, not a third party seller. Im confused. Was the tv not listed correctly on amazon? 9:01 PM ANNIE | Customer Service The item is sold and shipped by Amazon and the money was charged because even when the 2 item were defective they were used which makes them used item too I've issued a $82.68 promotional certificate to your Amazon.com account I have also shared an email where you can find how to use and where can the credit be seen Please note - Promotional certificate will not reflect in your account and it will only visible on checkout page. It will be only eligible for items sold and shipped by Amazon It'll automatically apply at checkout to your next eligible order. A9:03 PM so the Warrenty is for what then? They Tv had a one years manufacturer Warrenty and it failed. How would it not be used? does the Warrenty only apply if it sits in a box? 9:04 PM ANNIE | Customer Service I am sorry Danny, we have a policy that on electronics the seller has right to charge the restocking fees A9:04 PM But amazon is the seller and their products failed. why are you restocking damaged or defective items? 9:05 PM ANNIE | Customer Service I wish I could help you with the refund here however as primary level agent we do not have the option to refund the amount Which is why as one time exception I have issued the promo credit for the same amount A9:06 PM The credit is fine. I'll just save this conversation and post it on the reviews. I don't believe this policy should apply here at all. A Warrenty should be considered different than a used item. I think others should be aware of this loop hole amazon is pulling. It not so much about the money as it is about the nonsense. If I had purchased this TV at a brick and mortar store it would have been returned under a Warrenty with no loop holes. I appreciate your time and efforts. I just get frustrated with the blanket policies that rarely make any sense. It a character flaw. 9:09 PM ANNIE | Customer Service I do know this has been a disappointing experience for you Danny, therefore, I'll forward your comments to the attention of our leadership team to let them know and to review your complain So be rest assured, our team will escalate this issue to see it does not happen again. A9:10 PM I'm sure they will. Thanks anyway. I hope you have a good night and the rest of your calls are easier than mine. Take care. 9:10 PM ANNIE | Customer Service Always happy to help! :) Would there be anything else I can help you with? A9:11 PM not tonight. I have had enough for today. Thank you. 9:11 PM ANNIE | Customer Service It was a pleasure assisting to you today and I would like to thank you for allowing me to help you with your concern. Stay safe and take care(⌒‿⌒)ノHave a great day ahead (⌒‿⌒)ノ A9:11 PM
