Reliable, easy to setup dual band 802.11ac router at a great price
By Clayton Olson on Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2021
I have been a little jaded with the "Big name" router brands as of late. I needed a replacement and didn't have a lot to spend. I decided to give Speedefy a shot and chose this AC1200 model K4 router. I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of setup through the Android app and I was happy to also have the option of setup/administration through a web browser on my Windows/Linux PC/Laptop and my macbook air. (I have a mesh router system that only allows setup and administration through a phone app, which is frustrating) All of the expected options for a consumer grade router/gateway are included in this unit, but there are a few things that were rather nice to see that I haven't noticed in the other routers I've owned, such as the ability to limit a devices download/upload speeds to 128Kb/s, 256 KB/s, 512 KB/s or choose a speed manually. (Good for IOT devices like smart thermostats etc.) It offers Router, WISP, Universal Repeater and AP modes, the ability to turn the LED's off if they would be disruptive to someone sleeping. And something that I particularly like for wifi, is the ability to have the router choose the wireless bandwidth for both 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n devices (20/40 MHz) and 5 GHz 802.11a/n/ac devices (20/40/80 MHz) automatically based on current conditions. Usually, if those options are available to choose, you would have to choose one manually. Real world usage so far has been great. I haven't had any issues with the wifi dropping out. Speeds have been consistent with my 80 Mbps download, 40 Mbps upload internet speeds. I also really appreciate the small footprint of the unit and even though aesthetics don't help a router to go faster, I really like the faux carbon fiber body. So far, I am very happy with my purchase.

This Router Hijacks Your DNS - VERY Shady
By Ken Adams on Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2022
Like the old adage says, You get what you pay for. What you get here is a fast router with some extremely shady privacy practices. Like most routers, this one too has an area of the web interface where you can manually change the DNS server. UNLIKE most routers though, it’s all for show, NO MATTER what DNS server you put in there it’ll resolve your DNS queries from some shady server in Germany. I tested this on many devices and always got the same result. I disconnected this router immediately as I’m fairly certain now that this device harvests user data. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for a router, this one CANNOT be trusted.
