Air TV Anywhere-Does what it’s advertised to do!
By neecysknicknacks on Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2023
Air TV Anywhere does what it’s advertised to do. I do notice a slightly degraded resolution, but the positives outweigh the negatives and it doesn’t bother me. It was easy to set up-you have to do that on your phone or tablet though, and a sling account is of course required to be able to see the guide and record shows-You do not have to pay a subscription for sling though. It doesn’t even need to be near your tv. I set ours up hard wired to the router in a different room and it’s working perfectly. I get at least the same channels as I did without it and possibly even a few more. Make sure to check that your smart tv is compatible. Some are not. Roku works great with it as I have it set up. It is one of the only recording devices I found that can be purchased for a set price and not have to pay a monthly fee for the guide info, etc. to continue functioning after a “free trial”. No free trials with this one, it just works. That was a major deciding factor for me after extensive researching. After all, if you are cutting the cord why would you want to have to pay yet another subscription??!! I already subscribe to several streaming services-enough is enough!! The hard drive is built in, so you don’t even have to shell out extra cash for that. It records 4 shows at the same time, and so far it seems to be doing that without any problems for me. It gives you the ability to fast forward through commercials, but there is no preview of where you are, so you are basically guessing where to start and stop. When changing channels it can sometimes take 5-10 seconds and I’m sure that depends on your internet speeds- I have very fast fiber internet, so it isn’t the quickest little thing…As others have said in these reviews-the ethernet cable and splitter are NOT in the box, and I even returned and bought a 2nd one out of curiosity to see if I’d get them in the 2nd box. Neither box contained those parts, but everything looked new and factory sealed otherwise. Just plan on buying the ethernet cord and splitter if you don’t have extras laying around to use. The paperwork in the box is all dated 2020, so I’m assuming this is old new stock. There is no coupon in the box for discounted Sling service either, so if that is a factor for you you may want to go to Sling’s website to purchase this. They have a discount on this box if you buy prepaid service for a few months…All in all, even without the extras in the box, and it’s few quirks, this is a simple box that just works and was what I was looking for. I’m happy with the purchase so far.

This WAS a good unit until it died!
By R S on Reviewed in the United States on January 9, 2024
I have had the AirTv2 and wanted to upgrade to the 4 tuners instead of 2 and the built in DVR storage that this one has. This unit incorporates your local antenna off air tv in to the Sling guide and using the local page you can view all of and only the off air tv you receive all in one guide. Now, most importantly for those of you that don't have Sling like I do this works well to do this without a subscription. All you need to do is create an account with email and password and you can install the sling app in the Roku or Amazon Fire app or stick app and it will upload your local channels. The great thing about this over my Plex setup which I also have is it doesn't need the computer at all to function. For you tech folks out there the Flex 4K will do a little better job as it's tuner does receive a little better but can be more touchy to overloading. This units tuner does receive well though and I am happy with the results. Picture quality is awesome and it works very well. I do have a weaker broadcasting Heartland station in my area that I can get with my Plex but have to put alternate channels numbers in it as it has no guide. Although it comes in well the same with this unit it won't put it in because it has no guide for it. This is mildly sad as I know it's solid signal wise but without the guide available and it can see the station during install it won't put it in. *******NOTE******* I made a discovery about these units many don't know about. There is an issue with Apple's software and will NOT install with an Apple phone or tablet. You must have an Android tablet or phone to install this unit at the time of this writing as far as I know. I bought one for a friend also for Christmas and he has Apple and could not install it. By digging around I found out about this issue and he used an Android phone and it installed just fine. This is critical to know BEFORE you purchase. If you don't have any Android device or tablet handy this might not be for you until they fix this issue. He got his working perfectly first try on the Android phone he ended up using with 10 operating system in it. I have no knowledge of when a fix for this will be done. This issue is still a problem as of about a week ago, or around the 2nd of January 2024 as I know of it. Now, and also important is it will work fine with Apple devices after it is installed. During install Apple will hang up when you get to the point of scanning for channels. In all the years I have had my AirTv2 it has always worked fine with Android. It can not be installed by computer, so it must be done with Sling app using tablet or phone. Sling also provides a bunch of channels for free just having an account so it may prove fruitful for some of you to have an account just to get the free channels even if you don't subscribe. Also, and this is huge, you can stream away from home on any device with Sling app installed. It only allows 1 stream but you can watch your off air tv channels on your phone or tablet with the app for FREE! I highly recommend this unit as it works great and awesome picture and can watch away from home without costs! ****** UPDATE ****** This unit has died, and although there is a one year warranty on the device you can't get a replacement. Amazon does not stand behind this warranty. Although proven it does have a one year warranty through AirTv's website, the phone number that is on the warranty info is for Sling. When you contact Sling they refuse to help you, won't give you any phone number for AirTv at all, and say that they don't honor a warranty unless it is purchased through them, but then will tell you they don't sell them! What??? So I have spent a lot of cash for only 4 months of usable service for streaming locals without any resolution whatsoever! DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!
