Tricky to fill without spilling; needs flat surface
By toothdoc on Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2022
My previous ice cube tray made basically cube-shaped cubes and the lid didn't lock onto the tray so it eventually warped and the bottom corners of several of the tray cubes cracked. So I thought this tray would solve these problems since it has half moon shaped cubes with no corners and the tray cover slides onto the tray to keep it in place. My biggest disappointments: 1. you have to carefully fill the tray to no more than 2/3 full. Otherwise, the cubes will get too big and freeze to the lid, making it difficult to slide the lid off to get the ice cubes. Then if you don't remove all of the frozen droplets on the lid, when you slide it back onto the tray, they will be scraped off and make a wet mess. 2. you have to carefully fill the tray because the water quickly and easily sloshes over the sides of the tray and makes a mess. 3. you have to place the tray on a flat level surface in your freezer because the bottom of the tray is rounded, not flat. Only the very tiny feet in the 4 corners of the tray are level with each other. I ended up having to perch my tray on top of a smaller rectangular container to keep it level while freezing. 4. the tray is larger than most ice cube trays and the lid is not rectangular so it takes up a lot more space in your freezer than most trays. I finally gave the tray away because I found a less expensive basic covered tray. It makes cube-shaped cubes and has a lid that doesn't lock or click onto the tray but I don't have to worry about water sloshing out as I'm filling it or the lid getting stuck or balancing it in the freezer.

Great, easy to use. Bought this because our silicone tray was holding onto fridge smells. No issue with smell with this tray.
No smelly ice anymore! Somewhat stable, water does drip down

I like the format, it is not as easy to remove ice as it appears on their video, you do have to crack them some before. Also when adding water to it if you move it taking it to the fridge, the lid is not that efficient, it still drips water down and it is annoying, but it is good for the price. I do recommend it. The best part is that it helps getting good ice with no contamination of other smells in the fridge. It also does not too much space.
the ease of getting the cubes out

this is the best ice tray I've ever owned. The curveture of the ice units is such that it's always extremely easy to get a cube out. I hope the engineer who thought of this is getting rich from it!
These sure seem like perfect trays that produce perfect ice in a perfectly easy way!

There is not a better ice tray system out there. I can’t believe the complaints... “the lid sticks” ... “the plastic breaks” ... “I can’t twist them to release the ice.” I’m not finding anything like that when using these trays – this is a good set of ice trays thoughtfully made. If your lid is sticking then fill it like it’s meant to be filled.... not to the very top. Remember ice enlarges as it freezes, so leave a little room. Too much water may also be why some have problems removing the lid and/or twisting the tray. Again, I had no such trouble whatsoever... they twist pretty much like every other ice tray I’ve owned. I let the tray sit on the counter while I do other preparations and in just those few minutes the ice slides out just like they say... very convenient, and a nice shape to the ice itself – I think you can possibly get a bit more ice in the glass with this shape. These sure seem like perfect trays that produce perfect ice in a perfectly easy way! EDIT: bumped them to 5-star after using them for awhile. We have an ice maker in the fridge that we’ve detached due to leaks and blocking up. These trays are much better for things like homemade iced vanilla latte because the cubes don’t splinter and fracture so they last longer. I’d assume the same for mixed drinks. [*mini edit*] I ended up removing the entire ice-making feature from our freezer and now have SO MUCH MORE SPACE, which is made possible by these simple trays, which are far preferable to breaking automated ice that has been sitting for months in your freezer. If you’re a heavy ice user, I’d definitely consider buying four. I bought two, and they empty quickly (you can get three tall double-shot iced lattes out of two trays). But they are so easy to stack and find room for with the kids and all... this is definitely a purchase I’m thrilled about. Edit: We've bought two more, and have given four to friends after they saw and tried them at our place. Totally satisfied.
great ice cube tray

I'm very happy with this ice cube tray. I really like the lid, which keeps the ice odor free. Just don't fill the ice cube tray to the top of each well as the water will freeze to the lid and then it's hard to take the lid off. I usually fill about 3/4 full. The lid makes it is very easy to just get an ice cube or two out at a time so the whole tray of ice doesn't spill all over the counter. This works very well.
Just what I needed

This is exactly what I needed when my fridge's automated ice machine broke (can't afford to fix). I tried the silicone ones and they were just messy and hard to use. These OXO ones are old school but come with lids for stacking, which is important if limited room. If no lid/cover is used then they slide out soooo easy, on first try. If a lid is used then I remove it & set tray on counter for a minute or so before emptying. And granted, those that I use the lids on take longer to freeze and don't come out as perfectly smooth. But that's fine by me. I bought another pair so I fill 2 trays using lid and 2 trays without so I can save room, stack, and still get fast ice when needed. AND you do need to be careful to not overfill the ones you're using a lid with - that can indeed make it harder to get the ice out. But overall I am perfectly happy with these trays - I mean, you can't beat the price and they do the job.

Best ice trays ever!

These are the best ice cube trays! I have tried a number of trays over the years and these are the easiest to get the cubes out of the tray without having more pop out than you need. I can literally pop out one cube at a time by simply applying a little pressure on one side of the individual cube, something you could never do with typical ice trays. The cubes always come out clean and in one piece which is a nice touch. The tray covers while a nice idea, don’t work well. They are difficult to slide off once you have placed the water in the trays and they have frozen. The reason for this is that the cover gets wet as you slide them on and carry the trays from your sink to the freezer, so they end up being frozen in place and difficult to slide off when you want to get some ice cubes. My work around is that I stack the ice cubes trays in the freezer and I only place the cover on the bottom tray. I don’t use much ice and the cover does prevent the ice from picking up any odors. They also stack better like this. I use the top tray without the cover and when I have used all of the ice I fill it up and take the cover off the bottom tray and place it on this one so I am constantly rotating the ice trays. That said regardless of the covers and whether you choose to use them or not I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for the best ice trays on the market. I have told friends and family about them and they have all fallen in love with these ingenious trays.
Sturdy ice tray

This ice tray is sturdy and won't break easily which is a plus. I do use the lid because that allows for easy stacking of trays, but I will say that sometimes the lid gets iced shut which makes it difficult in opening it. The easy fix is to take out the tray and just wait a minute before trying, this usually helps. The ice cubes themselves are medium size, not too small but also not the largest I've seen.
