Great option for surgery recovery or as an ‘anti-gravity’ chair
By SGI on Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2021
I’m not sure this chair is marketed this way but I purchased for post shoulder surgery recovery. Most advice suggests you need to sleep in a recliner for weeks (which I don’t own). I chose this chair because (1) price point for a recliner-like experience was great, (2) it’s dimensions seemed comfortable (I’m a 5’9”, 175lb male) and (3) the cushion was appealing given the time I suspected I would spend in it. In practice, it worked better than expected. The chair’s reclining motion is stiff so it doesn’t unnecessarily swing but it’s not difficult to get it to recline (just push out with your feet on the cross bar located there). The locking mechanism is on both sides (a problem when one of your shoulder/arms doesn’t work) and was a bit hard to engage but I found the chair stays in position well without locking. I also found engaging the lock on just one side was totally effective to lock it’s position. The cushion was very comfortable (the ties on the cushion that allow you to fasten it to the chair frame could be an inch or so longer to make that easier). Note that whatever material it’s filled with reflects body heat quite well - I personally liked that as it was a great warming sensation but that’s up to each individual. The cushion removes and the chair material is similar to a good beach chair. It’s tight and comfortable ‘decking’. I thought about this as a potential beach chair without the cushion but it might be a bit heavy to carry back/forth to the beach. As a deck chair, thumbs up. The removable tray on the side seems like a frivolous thing but it ended up being very important to me during recovery - it was a perfect place to store my phone, iPad, drink, book, TV remote, etc. That was an unplanned bonus. The chair folds up reasonably tightly (as much as you can compress a cushion) and opens up easily. I was alone for the first week post surgery so I needed to do everything myself with one arm/hand only. When the chair is upright (not reclined), it’s fairly easy to rise to a standing position (chair isn’t too low) - even leaning on one of the arm rests with one hand to get up, it remained very stable and didn’t slide. This was one of the better purchases of the items I bought to support recovery - and I’ve mentioned to both my surgeon and health plan as a cost-effective solid recommendation. Additionally, I had always planned to get an anti-gravity type of chair but many can be pricey (more than 2x this chair) - they are particularly valuable for post intense workout recovery while using compression and other tech. This will work great for that.

Good design but poorly built

POORLY BUILT ! We bought two. New out-of-the-box several screws loose resulting in recliner problems. Metal on brittle plastic at recliner key locking points. Drinks tray hangs down at an angle & is wobbly. Mesh seat is comfortable but these chairs are mechanically inferior
