Not perfect, but awesome for two years - good buy

Pros: Cleans well Simple to clean/replace parts Good for single floor homes Cons: Loud/bumps into walls App not fantastic but servicable No grid cleaning Floor needs to be clear (no items laying around) After nearly two years my device finally stopped working. I absolutely loved this machine and was devastated when it stopped working. I used this machine daily, often twice a day, for nearly two years. In that time, I used my standup vacuum maybe a handful of times for big messes that need to be cleaned up immediately. Other than that, I used the robot vacuum. I lived in single story 2 and 3 bedroom apartments with a mix of carpet/tile while the vacuum was in use. Mostly live alone with one cat. I learned quickly that prior to having this robot vacuum, I was not cleaning my floor often enough. Every single time I would run the Shark it would pick up huge clumps of cat hair, dirt, and debris. I often received compliments on how clean my place was. For the first year or so, I had the Shark set to start cleaning while I was at work. After it got stuck a few times and ran out of battery I decided to just run it manually. Manual use is super simple - literally just press the button on the device and it takes off. It would run for about two hours or so and return to the charging base. It is not methodical in the way it cleans - it just bounces from wall to wall like that old screensaver (it’s kind of addictive to watch) - but it does the job. You do need to make sure to pick up any big things on the floor before you run it. It will get caught in curtains, shoe strings, phone charging cables, dirty clothes, etc. and it’s kind of loud. Definitely not anywhere near a standup vacuum, but it does make a whirring noise and bumps a little too loudly against the walls. Living in an apartment, I didn’t run it at night because the thumps might’ve bothered my downstairs neighbors. I didn’t like to have it running while I had company over or when I was trying to nap, but other than that it was fine. Cleaning (the vacuum) is self explanatory I think, comparable to other robot vacuums from what I can tell. I needed to open it up and clean the brush maybe quarterly if necessary. The brushes start to bend after getting used, but I just switched which side they were on to get them to bend the other way - not an issue at all. I actually replaced the brushes and filter only once after about a year. I accidentally threw away the filter and didn’t even realize it was gone for months, the vacuum still worked great. This was easily the cleaning device I used the most and I will be prioritizing getting a replacement asap.

Very unintelligent....

I do NOT recommend this model. I used to have the RV750/R75 until the motor or something in it that spun the brush roll failed after 2 years and Shark CS advised me that particular unit was obsolete and replacement parts were no longer made. So I bought this, the AV751. It's dumb as a stump in comparison. It rams into everything (causing it to push around smaller/lighter things), never goes into edge cleaning mode like the other one did, pushes the magnetic strips around, and will even run into its own dock (moving it so that sometimes it can't dock when done)! It will also randomly stop then play its "starting" music/tones and start going again, resulting in the run time as shown in the app to reset. It has also on occasion suddenly started from the dock without anyone telling it to! (Though this is usually some minutes after it returned to the dock on its own, but not due to low battery.) It also seems to have this issue with the magnetic strips when it goes into dock mode. If it is attempting to return to dock, but is in some area where it can't detect its dock, and then it runs across a magnetic strip, it will become obsessed with attempting to find a way around the strip. It'll either eventually succeed (I've come home before and found it in an area it shouldn't have been and couldn't figure out why), or it'll eventually give up and stop, sending a notification to the app saying it is stuck on a magnetic boundary strip. The dust bin is also designed differently and, in my opinion, poorly. The lid is held shut with a couple small balls that fit into holes on the bin. As a result, when opening, it sort of "pops" open, causing a small cloud of dust to poof out. I have bad allergies to dust. That small poof is enough to put me out of commission for the rest of the day if I breathe it in. The old model unit I had, the lid merely rested on top of the bin, so this was not an issue. In this new unit, the filter can also sometimes slip out while opening/emptying because of the way it's designed and positioned (again, not an issue with the older model). Otherwise, the battery life seems great compared to the old model I had. Lasts about twice as long. However, for whatever reason, the unit won't actually run the whole duration unless it can't detect it's dock (ie, putting it into another room). It'll only run about an hour (half duration) before auto returning to the dock. This unit is dumb enough that it's making me regret my decision to buy it.... Update (4/22/21): So, to make matters worse, this morning I woke up to the unit making a beep every few seconds. Couldn't figure it out, so called Shark. They inform me that a bad update went out for this particular model (AV751) and that it should be resolved in another couple of hours. I obviously have questions on how this happened, but whatever. I can wait a couple hours. 4 and a half hours later... it's still doing it. I call them back. They now inform me that my unit is going to have to be replaced and it's going to take upwards of 10 days to arrive. Grrr.... Oh, and it's the base unit, only. It's on me to swap the brushes, roller, battery, etc to the new unit. *rolls eyes* But then, they need to check the warranty status to make sure I qualify. Excuse me?? You all sent out a bad update that bricked my unit, but if it's not in warranty I'm SOL??? It was in warranty still (only 6 months old), but what I'm hearing is that if in another 6 months to a year this happens again, it's gonna be on me to replace. I'm so pissed right now. >:( Update (8/27/22): One of the wheels that drives it has stopped working. It just goes round and round in circles, now. This is the second Shark ION Robot that I've had that breaks in 2 years. I just bought an iRobot 600 series to replace it....
