If you like gadgets, Buy it!
By Groovydogg on Reviewed in the United States on February 5, 2021
Updates to this review will be dated and at the end. First review 2/5/21 Fair warning I am a big anker fan. I like gadgets so I bought this. The flashlight works great, it’s not a focused beam but it lights up a large area, feels very sturdy and seems like typical anker quality. I’ve seen complaints about how long it takes to charge in the sun. I’ve never charged it from dead to full using the sun. Charged it once with the wall a month ago and it’s still fine. I didn’t consider its ability to charge from the sun, and quite frankly I don’t really care too much about that. but now that I think about it, It’s a tiny little solar panel and of course it takes a long time! If you plan on buying this (and I do recommend it), keep in mind that yes it is very cool BUT ITS NOT MAGIC and a small solar panel means long charging times. If because of a very strange set of circumstances you find yourself stranded on an island or in the middle of the woods, the solar charging aspect will be a lifesaver. It just may take some time. I keep mine in my glove compartment. The charge is well on the dashboard. in my opinion One of the best features is that the on off switch for the light is nothing more than on or off! None of that BS where you have to go through high medium low and flashing before you get back to whatever setting you want. Does anyone ever use the seizure inducing strobe light flashing setting that all flashlight seem to have? I would pay extra if the other anchor flashlights have the ability to just turn on and off and none of that cycle through crap. Update 4/9/21- I want this to my son to use as a battery. They charge his phone several times. When I got it back it was dead. Because I keep it in my car generally, I just put it up on the dashboard while I was driving around and it charged back quick enough. I made no attempt to time it by the end of the day I’m driving around it was ready to go.

Useless as Solar Charger
By MK on Reviewed in the United States on September 11, 2021
Update: Dropped from 4 to 1 star because it does not charge by the sun. The little blue dot blinks but no blue dots are added. The trip described below was a test trip. Next I took it on the JMT, and even in full sun most of the day, I could hardly get enough charge to power up my phone let alone take a picture. It works fine as a power bank, but it’s really heavy, so not good for its intended purpose. So disappointed. I’m a big Ankor fan, and this is the first product that is a total waste of money. Old review: I used this on a 3 day backpacking trip and it held enough power for me to charge my phone a few times while taking pictures and using the Gaia app to track the trip. It still had a few dots left after 3 full days and 28 miles of tracking. We had a few stormy days so it only got a little sun, so I cannot tell you how long it takes to fill up again. I'd say if you're pretty low tech use and want a solution for a longer trail when you can't recharge a device with electricity, this offers great emergency backup power. Additionally it's durable and proved to be water-resistant when I forgot to put it away when the rain started. The strap is very handy for rigging it onto the pack, and the flashlight is very bright. I only brought a "ultralight" headlamp, which is very lame for actually seeing anything, so it was nice to have this flashlight for a brighter longer range. It's also attractive, if you care. Not a quality feature, but I like the blue striping around the solar panel. The reason I gave it 4 stars is that one of the little rubber non-slip thingys on the back was missing out of the box. I called Anker and they do not have replacement parts, which I find annoying. They did offer me a 15% credit, which I accepted in lieu of returning the device and ultimately adding to the landfill for an item which still works great with 3 of the 4 rubber non-slip thingys. I thought I ordered from the Anker Store, because that's what I clicked, but somewhere along the way I must have clicked away and ended up ordering from "Woot" instead. Perhaps they sell seconds? As a precaution I'd recommend only ordering this product from the official Anker store.
