So far so good
By James Laughlin on Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2022
I am really liking this laptop. When it updated to Windows 11, it came with some great new features, and a couple not so good. You know longer can move a file from one folder to another folder. You have to copy and paste it to wherever you want it to go. Then go back and delete it from the previous folder. I'm hoping they'll get that fixed soon. Other than that there's no problems with it.

Bought this during the pandemic for distance learning. Waste of money. It didn't last a year. I have to say, I was impressed with the packaging and unpacking it was impressive due to its appearance. It looks nice. Turning it on was a different story. It was basic. Low-quality, honestly. Not very impressive but acceptable because of its size. Maybe a couple weeks in as we used it every single day, the buttons began to easily pop out. From just typing. We'd pop them back in and be like no biggie then it continueously kept happening :( we weren't slamming the keyboard or typing hard. Just simply typing. Anyways it wore really fast we can no longer use it. Complete waste of money. Wish I was just patient and went to best buy instead. Anyways my advise is if you're thinking about buying this please reconsider.

Fantastic Laptop

Did lots of research and knew what I wanted to order for my father who was struggling with his low end old laptop. New I needed SSD and at least an i-5 CPU with 802.11 A/C wifi. Well this thing is a rocket ship and going strong after months of use. Great laptop for the price we paid at the time, technology is always changing but will this laptop hold up for 10 years? Probably not, but will you be happy for the next 3-5 years at least id say YES.
Great For It's Purpose

My need was a relatively cheap laptop with a large monitor functional for work via Citrix or using SSH, neither particularly high demand. This laptop fits the bill and has come very good qualities, even though it's missing some more modern connectors like USB-c, Thunderbolt or DisplayPort and has a relatively small SSD. The full keyboard is large and has great tactical feedback as well as a separate numeric key pad. The trackpad and buttons are the same - I like that they are all separate vs the uni-pad with buttons underneath and are not predictable. Input on this laptop is very fast. My only gripe is there is no back light which can make working in low light hard . It only has Intel UHD graphics, suitable to drive up to 3 monitors with the onboard HDMI or a separate USB video cable, but that does take away from the onboard memory. I actually chose it for this fact as I have had problems with both ATI and NVidia mobile chipsets. The processor is not ever going to run at 3.6 Ghz though as the laptop would melt. That;s a theoretical number on only 1 core were it on a desktop. Actual operating range is more like 700Mhz - 1200 Mhz given Speed Shift and battery/power limits. Still, this was okay for me. USB 3 SS is past it's prime and the DVD burner is just plain old but I understand this reduced the cost which is even more important to me. It met my demands but I understood I was trading power for value in this model, the reason I give it a fairly high rating.

I bought 2 of these for family and they really are great computers. They are fast and stable. The SSD could be a little larger but its a great price for what you do get. Newest generation chip, SSD, Touchscreen and Windows 10. If these are still available I would get one. Its a little heavy but it is a 17" screen.

This is one of the best purchases I've made. Using this laptop I was able to see the majority of my students during e-learning. A 20" would have made it possible to see them all. I need another one so I don't have to leave the students but, not right now.

SO Pleased With My New Laptop!

This laptop is everything I wanted and hoped it would be. I haven’t owned a laptop in many years so I asked my computer expert friend and he recommended this. I personally wouldn’t use it without a cordless mouse but, otherwise, it’s perfect for me! Highly recommend.
Fast Boot-Up Time!

I'm a retired technology manager, and as such, I've purchased and supported countless notebook computers over the years. I'm amazed at how little time it takes from pressing the power button to being at a fully-functioning state - typically less than 15 seconds.
Good, basic laptop

I describe this as basic because of its 256 G hard drive and its medium (i5) CPU. It's pretty much what you'd expect from HP. There are two issues you should know about if you are buying this one. First, it comes with Windows Home in S mode. S mode apparently stands for "secure," but it is laughably limiting. You can only use Edge with it, for example. You cannot download anything from anyplace except Microsoft. Even McAfee, a 30-day trial of which comes with this computer, cannot be downloaded. So the first thing I recommend you do is turning S mode off - in effect, changing to Windows Home. This is done very easily through settings/update & security/activation. Select Go to the Store and then Switch out of S mode, then Get. The second thing you should know is that the DVD player, which is pretty flimsy to start with, is not factory set to any region. That means you will not be able to play your typical US movie without going to Device Manager; when the Device Manager window opens, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right-click on your DVD player and then select Properties. Click on the DVD Region tab. Select the region in which you want to change to and click OK. Apart from these two minor issues, the PC appears to be satisfactory, with a nice 17" screen.
Very Satisfied!

I bought this laptop just over two months ago. So far I'm very happy with it. It boots up and shuts down very fast. Some minor dings... 1) I wish it had a longer power cord. 2) I wish it had an LED power indicator on the front panel. 3) The finger pad is too sensitive, even at its least sensitive setting. I disabled the finger pad and work with the mouse and keyboard. That said, I would definitely buy this laptop again. I think it's a great system for under $600!
