Finally found a reliable doorbell camera
By fitnessguy on Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2022
Tip : after installing camera you point a QR code in front of it to register device. The instructions don’t make it clear you have to ring the doorbell and hold the QR code in front of the camera at the same time. After that registering was easy. A lot easier than registering the @mcrest doorbell that died after 2 years and was unreliable. The biggest thing I love about this camera is the display is set up for 4 x 3 not widescreen 16 x 9. This has a much better field of view for us to see visitors at our door. The fisheye lens shows more but can be disabled in settings for a more straight on view. This doorbell has 4 gig of internal storage included. No need to buy a micro SD card. The video and pics are 1080p and good quality. You can adjust how sensitive the motion detection is and even move lines around to create a custom zone. Only movement inside the zone you create will set off an alert. I had to bypass my mechanical doorbell and have all power from the doorbell transformer go directly to the camera. I plugged in the included auxillary doorbell close to our front door. The app lets you change the ring chime and even the volume. If you want a security doorbell camera but hate paying monthly fees this is the one for you. There is an option to pay for cloud video storage but it’s not required at all. So far this is the best no monthly fee doorbell I’ve ever owned. Highly recommend.

**Update 11/30/2022 - 13 months after purchase Yeah, big negative on this product. It only deserves a 1 star and that is being gracious. This thing has become so unreliable on detecting movement that we end up silencing/turning off notifications more than we leave them on. Sure, the ability to pull up the camera and watch it is great but not the reason anyone would buy this. It's to catch movement in case something happens. I've done everything Eufy has asked me to do to try to get it to work (rearrange my porch, create custom zones on the camera, sent them data, etc) and none of it has done squat for detection accuracy and reliability. **Update - 10 months later: I've contact Eufy twice over this time to try and work on getting my motion detection issues figured out and resolved. After sending the data they requested and doing some troubleshooting, they decided to send me a new unit at no charge. They even let me wait to return my old one until after the new on arrived so that I wouldn't be without some kind of camera/doorbell. I swapped the units out and, unfortunately, my motion detection issues persisted. They finally recommended that I clear out some flower pots/stands I had within view of the camera and that did help a good bit but I still get false detection's, motion not picked up but I will say that it's not as frequent. I'm not really happy that I have to rearrange my porch to suit the camera. I've since put the flower pots back where they were and am just dealing with it. I also inquired if they would ever add a wedge-like option to allow vertical tilting of the camera for people, like me, who have vinyl plank siding. (see image) They offer a 15 degree wedge to allow the camera to be tilted horizontally, which works great but nothing for the vertical angle. As a result of the camera being slightly tilted up, I can't see the immediate area around the base of my door. Despite these issues, it is still a very decent device that is worth the price. Their support has been pretty good, which is hard to come by these days, so that does help to offset some minor shortcomings of the device. Unfortunately, I will not ever even consider any of their larger video surveillance products because everything comes in that horrid white. The doorbell comes in black, which is great, but everything else is shiny white. So until they decide to offer black in more of their product line, count me out. -----------Original Review--------------- Purchased 11/4/2021: First installed it and it was great with the motion detection but now, it seems everything BUT actual motion from people (deliveries, guests) triggers it. So the confidence in this product is severely waning. I've played with the settings to tweak it but nothing is really getting close to how it was when it was first installed. So I dont know if they changed the software or what has happened to it but it's a little disappointing. I do like the build of the product and the fact that all the recordings are contained within the device and not the cloud. They provided a 15 degree angled plate that you could mount the camera on if you wanted it to be a little more biased to one side or another. This foresight would have been great if they provided a similarly angled plate for people who have plank style aluminum siding. Because of the plank side that is angled, the camera sites tilted slightly up and just looks like a sloppy install job. I've considered a 3D print job from a friend but haven't gotten around to it. I won't buy again for my other doors that need camera surveillance and might end up swapping this one out for a different one.

Perfect video doorbell system

This is one of the best purchases I've ever made. When we bought our new home, I wanted to replace the existing doorbell with a security video doorbell and there's a number of them to choose from. Initially, I went with a Ring but its profile was wider than what I wanted for the doorframe and, besides, it used a rechargeable battery (i.e., it didn't use the existing doorbell's power). In contrast, the Eufy system easily utilizes the home wiring (you just have to add an extra wire to bypass your existing chime which just takes a minute) and the Eufy chime is a plug-in that you can place anywhere in your house- it kind of looks like one of those plug-in air fresheners. Furthermore, the Eufy system records video whenever triggered by activity which you can download: you don't have to pay a monthly subscription to have the data stored on the cloud. This is a big plus for me as it's "one and done"- you pay for the system just once. You receive notifications of any activity via an app on your phone which you can view. Any footage you want to save can be downloaded and the rest gets cleared at the end of each day. Video footage is clear and crisp including at night. You can use the built-in speaker system to talk to anyone who is at your door. And the product itself is pretty slick looking. Disadvantages? It uses infrared at night so it switches to black and white mode when its dark so if you want color video at night, this might not be for you. Also, if you want to be able to record every bit of video up to a server, again, another product with a subscription service might better serve your needs. Also, I had to replace the existing doorbell transformer from a 16V to a 24V otherwise it was underpowered. In summary: if you want a system which notifies you when people come to your door, be able to communicate with them in real-time, provides crisp footage which you can download, has an easy-to-use intuitive app, and doesn't require a monthly or annual subscription service, this is the one for you.

Once operational, this is a great unit! Keep our porch light on most nights so I can't speak much to the night vision. I did check it and it seems to work pretty well. The motion sensor works great at picking up people. And the quality of the video gives a clear picture of who's at the door. The installation was a bit challenging. Best advice I can offer is check the voltage on your transformer BEFORE you start. I assumed that since my house is only 12 years old, I would be ok. Wrong! I hooked this up and burned out my existing transformer. Pick up a new one and install it if you're ok with working with AC power. I also bypassed my existing chime. This means installing a resistor since the physical chime absorbs some of the fluctuations in the AC power. Sort of doesn't make sense right? Up the power of the transformer, then balance it out with a resistor. Anyway, after that process it was easy to finish the set up.

I was a little concerned since my existing doorbell is wired to a sidewall at a 90 degree angle from my front door. But this is the lowest price this doorbell as been and I saw that it came with a 15 degree mounting plate. I also saw some adaptor plates online for this doorbell so if it wasn't wide enough I had the option of buying an adaptor to "increase" the mounting angle. As you can see, turns out I didn't need it. With the 15 degree mounting plate both my front door and the walkway leading up to my doorstep are in frame. The front of my house also faces west and I was installing and setting it up in the evening and everything beyond my doorstep was washed out by sunlight, but enabling the HDR mode and bam...everything is visible now. Installation was fairly simple...it took me longer to figure out which breaker in my fuse box supplied power to my doorbell. Then it took me a while to get the cover off the doorbell chime because the previous owner had painted over and around it so I had to use a utility knife to cut around the edges. I would rate my handiness as average or maybe a tad above average but the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I got everything set up without running into a single issue in about 30-45 minutes...and again most of that was spent flipping breakers in my fuse box and walking back around and ringing my doorbell...climbing up a ladder to get to the doorbell chime. Setting up and using the app was pretty simple too, didn't run into any issues there. Everything set up and running in under an hour. So far so good! I tested the motion detection and all that and it all seems to work as described. Got it on sale for $90, well worth it! Update: I live in a townhouse and share walkway, my neighbor kept triggering the motion detection. Setting up the activity zone solved the issue (added screencap).
A real bargain.

I purchased a 1080k eufy in october 2020. Cost was good, didnt require a subscription as it uses internal flash storage or something similar. Easy to install, It does require constant power for the camera and motion detector so you have to strap the transformer wires in the current chime together to provide a voltage stream. Picture quality good, has a nice app, motion detectore works well. Picture very clear. This along with other smart home devices requrie 2.4gh wifi. Most routers are dual band, 2.4g and 5g so that isnt a problem but you should check first. The only problem sometimes the motion detector is too sensitive and picks up lights going on across the street from me at night. No problem as the video is eventually over written. An alert to smart phone is provided when bell is pressed. You can also talk remotely to whoever pressed the button.(Not interested in what your selling etc ). You can program the included chime to supplied different tunes. I imagine you can supply your own chime tune tho I didnt try it. I am pleased with this unit. A bit of info about eufy. My unit had a fault 5 months after I bought it and burned out 2 doorbell transformes. I wrote Nina at Eufy and she paid for the transformers and replaced the unit at no cost to me. You cant get better customer service then that.

So wish we had discovered Eufy before installing another device by Ring (floodlight cam) Incredibly easy and fast to install (EVERYTHING you could need is in the box) Application easy to install, setup and use NO SUBSCRIPTION NEEDED FOR FULL FUNCTION (So fast on the notifications!!) Great picture day and night Was super easy to send family members their invite so they can use the app and they were able to setup the app in no time. I'm sold! Sorry Ring, you're overpriced and problematic - even just a few feet from the router - I'm switching to Eufy Better product, Better price, Better Value (Eufy, don't get stupid now and get expensive... Instead, remember that economies of scale work in reverse in regards to profits!! ((Sell more at smaller margin, still make enormous profits)). )

Overall decent doorbell/camera

Installation was easy and the doorbell quickly connected to my phone. Alerts come up nicely, currently more than I like but sensitivity is adjustable and ignore zones can be created. I purchased this doorbell because I don't like monthly fees, local storage works fine for me. The video playback looks very good but the individual captured pic gets grainy quickly as you expand. I've not figured out how to download the individual pic. Downloading a video is easy but I can't seem to find it. I set this up with Alexa to pop up on my Fire TV when the doorbell is pressed. This works but not consistently and not quickly enough to be of value. Overall this doorbell/camera works well and I think it's a decent value.
Updating my previous review from "definitely not what we hoped for" to "working much better"

(Leaving my previous review below but only for reference.) After seeing my review below, the customer service team at Eufy reached out to me to make suggestions for improving my experience. It involved several emails back and forth with me submitting screen shots etc., and them replying with suggestions. This makes me feel much better about Eufy just knowing that a responsive team felt their product was not the issue, and was willing to work with me to get it working much much more reliably. It's not a 5 star experience yet, but it's up to 4, and I'd be happy now to recommend this product. ********** (previous review) I kept waiting to write this review, hoping I'd be able to give it a better rating, but unfortunately I'm pretty disappointed. At first I just thought it was a steep learning curve for me, but I now think the learning curve is needed by the doorbell and not me. Although I've adjusted the sensitivity and the activity zone multiple times, we regularly get notifications (often many per day) showing the front tire of my husband's car in the driveway, which Eufy identifies as a human. Yet the newspaper carrier can drive up the driveway and launch the newspaper to our front door and we've yet to see the doorbell take note of that event. If someone actually comes to the door and rings the doorbell, everything works pretty well - the doorbell rings, my phone buzzes and I can see who is there. But it seems that unless someone is actually standing within a couple of feet of the doorbell, we don't get notifications of their presence. I had hoped to be able to see and track a little more of the coming and going between us and the street. But apparently the most notable thing to Eufy is hubby's car tire - that keeps it ever alert. The other disappointing thing is the number of times I see or hear an alert, and when I try to open the app to see what's up, I'm told that my phone is not connected to the internet. (Which is totally not true.) So all in all, it functions adequately as a doorbell but not much else. At this point I'm reduced to hoping it's "look" of a security doorbell might be enough to keep a bad guy thinking he's being recorded, but unless he lays on the driveway next to my husband's car tire, we likely won't get any video to show for it. Sure wish I had a better rating.
Good video quality but has issues

UPDATE: After less than two months, the issues with the night vision got worse and the doorbell started missing events during daylight hours. It also blasted loud static when viewing live. I adjusted every setting, reinstalled the app, did a factory reset, etc with no luck. I contacted Eufy and they determined the doorbell was defective and immediately sent a new one. The new doorbell works fine so far and I am very happy with Eufy's customer service. Original review: I've had this doorbell a few weeks and for the most part I am happy with it with one major exception: Pros: 1) It is easy to set up and install. 2) I like having the SD card separate from the doorbell and NO required subscription. 3) The video during the day is very clear 4) The motion detection works fine and picks up movement about 15 ft away when set on level 3 & 4 detection. Notifications occur within a few seconds if you don't use the thumbnail feature, which significantly increases notification time. 5) The app is easy to use and works well. There are many customizable features. 6) I have had no issues with connectivity and it's installed about 40' from the router on brick. Cons: 1) 180 day battery claim is not remotely realistic. It might last 45-60 days if you only have a few daily events. Watching live drains the battery very quickly. Mine typically lasts about 30 days and it takes several hours to recharge. The advertising on battery life is very misleading. 2) My biggest complaint is that I am not happy with night vision at all. I have a bright porch light above this and I do not need night vision and would prefer to leave it off but it will not pick up ANY motion at night without auto night vision turned on. It doesn't matter if it's set for all motion or just human or at the highest detection setting. The night vision is extremely washed out - everything is blurry and faces are not recognizable. It is like this with the porch light on or off. When motion is detected, there are a couple seconds of recording in color that are clear before the night vision switches on but the subject is too far away. I have a separate security camera in the same lighting that works just fine without night vision so I am very disappointed that this does not. 3) The detection zone doesn't seem to work regardless of the settings used. I don't really need it but if you live close to a busy street or high traffic area, it could be a problem Overall it serves its purpose and I refuse to pay these companies that force you to subscribe to sketchy cloud servers. I mostly wanted it to notify me when I receive a delivery because no one seems capable of ringing a doorbell anymore. If you intend to use this for security, I would look elsewhere as the poor night vision is a deal breaker.
