Interesting experience

Set-up is not as easy as the advertisement states, but customer service was easy to reach. My only issue with customer service was the language barrier. However, we were able to get everything up and running within 10-15 minutes (8 minutes of that was navigating the language barrier). Moreover, I did see one of the reviews mention the companies excessive messages to purchase their Armor security program and the Smart Parental Controls option. I would agree that I get a lot daily since purchasing. But in today's sales and marketing climate I understand (fortunately being able to turn off notifications resolved this for me). So far the only issue that I have come across with this particular Orbi system is that it does not cover 7,000 sq ft. as advertised. Well maybe if you live in a a wood framed vinyl sided house that coverage might be true. But I live in a 3,400 sq ft. brick constructed ranch home. And as noted the satellite signal does not travel as well through brick apparently. So I have to purchase a third satellite to cover the remaining 2, 000sq feet roughly. I guess we shall see it that does the trick. But overall, I think it is a good product for the cost. Even having to purchase a third satellite when all added up my final payout is still $100's under the cost of other mesh systems that I have come across.

After 6+ hours with tech support, both they and I agreed it was time to return the product

NETGEAR unfortunately had a long list of problems: 1) phone system had problems recognizing button pushes (typically this is due to overloaded equipment). So I finally had to give up and switch to 'chat'. 2) Chat people said they were unable to file a ticket that phone system was having problems. 3) Chat people said they were unable to transfer me to phone system. 4) Satellite units hung when upgrading firmware. 5) NETGEAR app (which you are required to use) never was able to login to the Router, even after multiple hardware reboots, factory resets. 6) After the failure of the App, we tried using 192.169.1.1 - Router didn't respond to that either. 7) NETGEAR app had several 404s when it tried to go to other places within its own software. 8) NETGEAR app went into Doom Loop when satellite units hung during firmware upgrade. 9) NETGEAR support said that they thought the root-cause of the problem was that the router and satellites were shipped with different firmware versions. 10) there were a number of other problems, but I finally gave up writing them all down. Now NETGEAR support went "above and beyond" to try to resolve the problems. They also clearly knew the products, knew networking and were very patient - after all, we spent two 3-hour sessions trying to get things to work. They were just left out to dry with a customer-support system and product that just didn't cut the mustard. NOTE: this happened with two different complete sets of Orbi router+2 satellites. So the problem(s) are completely repeatable. This is not a manufacturing defect, but product and software defects. It's a real shame - the Orbi specs looked great.
