the vibration feature is GENIUS!! perfect for my DEAF dog!!
By laramie james on Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2023
we trained my old boy on one of these types of collars when he was just a pup. he's fifteen now, and his age is catching up to him, and he's almost completely deaf. the original collar he grew up with only had the beep and shock feature. he learned to come when he heard the beep or else he'd get a little zap! worked wonderfully. there were few occasions where he was particularly petulant and needed to be shocked, so it was overall a relatively painless experience for him... up until now. he couldn't hear the beep anymore. so, the only option was to shock him, which seemed needlessly cruel. and without the beep, without that warning, he didn't understand why he was getting zapped. instead of coming as he was taught to do, he instead started running away from me. it broke my heart. the only option was to abandon the collar and rob him of his freedom, only allowing him outside on a tie-out where he had limited space to explore. this, too, was heartbreaking. i didn't like this solution, so i started poking around for other options. i came across this collar, saw that it had a vibration feature (something i had never seen before), and immediately ordered it. i crossed my fingers that this would give my lil' old man his freedom back! and it DID! the moment he feels the vibration he comes trotting along, just like he once did when he heard the beep! it is perhaps even more effective than the beep, as i haven't had to shock him once since introducing this collar! i am so happy that he can now roam to his heart's delight, but i have a way to summon him back so he doesn't stray too far off of the property! and now he can explore alongside his sisters again instead of being relegated to a tie-out and only watching their escapades from afar. the construction of the remote and collar is top notch! i love the digital display on the remote, the size of it, and the fact that it can be turned on and off to preserve battery life (a feature that the former remote we used did not have). the module for the collar is well built with excellent attention to detail. i appreciate the rubber cover for the charging port so it is truly waterproof. and on that note, it's wonderful that both the remote and collar can be charged and do not require batteries! it's so intuitive and user-friendly! i could not be more pleased! i highly recommend this!! included is a picture of the sweet old man himself. he approves, too!!

Try it on your neck first - I'd rather be whipped than endure a 50% power shock.

I own this unit (the "Well-D Adv." model TC01). Regardless your stance on shock collars, TEST THIS PRODUCT ON YOUR OWN NECK BEFORE YOU SHOCK YOUR DOG. The shock is very strong depending on the power level you use, and anyone who describes it as a "discomfort on the dog's neck" obviously hasn't tried it - it's definitely pain. I bought it for my dog after she killed a chicken and severely wounded another (who may or may not survive). Of course, to keep my dog from killing livestock, I would be willing to use the shock, but I can't hold it on my own neck above 30% power level. It hurts quite a bit, even for a minute or so after the shock ends, and it shocks for a minimum of about a full second after the button press. Having only been able to test it to 30% power myself, I wouldn't be willing to exceed that level very much. (Note that using this product on your own neck may disrupt your neurological functions, so use it at your own risk, just like you do on your dog. That side of my face might still be a little numb - hard to tell.) I understand that dog and human pain tolerance is different, as is the conductivity of the skin. However, I can compare different types of pain, and I would rather be whipped with a hose or stick while wearing only a T-shirt than experience a shock from this collar on my neck at 50% power, and most people seem to agree that beating your dog with sticks or hoses is inappropriate. I can't say what the dog would prefer, but that's certainly what I would prefer in terms of pain. I would suggest that if you aren't willing to endure the shock yourself, don't use it on your dog, and NEVER use this product as the exclusive training solution (that is, without exhausting other training methods), or to train a dog on behaviors that are just annoying to you, like barking, whining, digging, etc. Shocking your dog may be appropriate for behaviors that are a danger to the dog, other animals, or humans, but doesn't seem ethical for less serious problems. I am rating this unit as a 3 out of 5 stars. The manual is only moderately well-translated Chinese - you can figure out what they meant. As a piece of electronics, I'm sure it's built fine and functions adequately. But, having experienced it myself, I think the shock collar concept could easily lead people down a dangerous path into animal abuse (particularly if they don't read the manual thoroughly and use the collar to drag their dog around on a leash). I'm worried for a lot of dogs out there whose owners don't understand what this unit does to their dog, who repeatedly zap their dog's neck at a high power level.
