Very happy with this purchase. Fits the kitchen well.

Holds up and its convenient! The lids slow close and fall into a grove in the top so nosy animals cant push it up so trash is protected from the dogs. Super easy to clean with a wet wipe and the capacity is a good amount too. Fits under a standard height counter top very well. Trash bag swaps are very easy as well. The filter/air freshener slots in the top are convenient but I don't really use them as when the lid is closed the trash is pretty air-tight. I guess if I had really smelly garbage they would come in handy as an option though. Otherwise, very happy with this purchase.

FIRST, in these days of COVID 19, the Amazon Warehouse Crews the Amazon Drivers are truly brave souls. They risk their health so that we get the items that we want or need. I want to say Thank You Guys for all that you do. I truly hope that other customers are recognize the heroes that are knowingly facing this Virus and saying “Do your worst”. Now for my review: You wonder, “What can I say in a review for a Garbage-Recycling bin?”. I was very, very wrong! We received the product from Amazon, early and in great shape as usual. The unit was well packaged from the factory with the Amazon overpack further protected the recycle unit. The bin came out of its packaging in perfect shape. I decided to use the trash/recycle bin for a week to get a feel for it’s quality or lack thereof. The following are the results of my discoveries. Whenever I have used a plastic bin inside a metal housing, I have had an awful time trying to fit the trash can liner around the top of the plastic insert in a way that the trash can liner does not show outside the stainless bin. I have had to go to extremes like putting extra tension on the top of the bag by using short pieces of duct tape to take up the slack in the plastic bag, or spend far too long trying to stuff the excess bag material down the outside of the plastic bin. My wife said “What is the point of spending 10-15 times what a sixteen gallon plastic garbage can, to have the plastic liners show outside the stainless steel bin. I couldn’t argue with her. Our kitchen is small so we cannot put a trash bin of any size beneath the sink, and we have to recycle clean metal, plastic materials, glass and clean paper. As the trash and recycle bins in plain view in the kitchen. After a weeks use, I want note the following that I feel would be very useful for prospective buyers to be able to factor into their decision. A. The unit we received was well designed and manufactured. *Doors opened and closed easily and silently. *All joints were carefully crafted and finished in a manner that did not make them excessively apparent. *There were no sharp edges. *The bins fit tightly into the stainless steel container. *There is a bracket at the bottom of each of the two stainless bins to guide the plastic tubs into the correct positioning in order that the lids fit tightly over the bins. * For as far as a trash/recycle bin can be “attractive”, this unit is “attractive. *This unit absolutely is more attractive AND more useful that a standard tall kitchen plastic garbage can. *One of the major, and most important benefits of this unit is the replaceable charcoal filters attached to the inside of each of the bins lids. The tightly closing lids with the odor control, also will cut down on summer and fall flies, if not eliminate them entirely. *The plastic liner tubs have holes placed at strategic locations around each tub to allow the tall kitchen garbage bags to be tucked in. Using these holes almost completely eliminates the issue of the trash bags erupting around the closed lid. *The company includes a short instruction sheet to ensure that the use of these holes is not overlooked. *The manufacturer also includes a card with instructions on obtaining a free set of extra filters. and a set of trash bags “designed” to fit the bins “precisely”. For my part, I am happy to have the extra filters, and the garbage bags won’t go to waste, but it will take some convincing to draw me away from grocery store tall kitchen trash bag. *They sell the replacement filters directly, and they are available on Amazon as well. They also sell the replacement cylinders that allow the lids to close slowly and quietly. *One of the insert tubs is blue to indicate which bin for recycle items. The garbage bin is black. We use talk kitchen garbage bags to line the bins to minimize the need for cleaning the tubs as frequently. To summarize: the Touchless Soft Step Trahcan and Recycle Bin, is that this set of bins is the best of several that we have had, “Hands Down”

This is a great kitchen trash can. It’s very sturdy and works very well with the motion sensors. The lock is great for when we put the dogs in the kitchen. They haven’t got it open yet! (I have 4 - 100+ lb dogs). The lid seems flimsy but haven’t had any issues with it. The can looks small but truthfully it holds a lot. A bit pricey but if it holds up it will be worth it. I bought the wall plug instead of using batteries. It’s easier for us.

What's not to like about this Touchless, SoftStep 20 gallon pedal activated trash can! And the speed of delivery and packaging were exemplary! It arrived with just a couple of days after ordering, with styrofoam on the top and bottom to secure it from being bashed around in the box, plus covered with a plastic sleeve. Extremely well protected! And as it slipped from the box, the first thing that struck me was the beauty of the finish, a brushed look that did not show any of my fingerprints! I love that! The pedal works beautifully and the lid opens and closes without any sound whatsoever! I am extremely impressed with this trash can. We purchased it as a donation for a Community Sensory Room and the 20 gallon size, though it looked really big when I first unpackaged it in the foyer of our home, is the perfect size for the Sensory Room! 30 gallons would have been too big and 13 gallons too small. Like Goldilocks, 20 gallons "IS JUST RIGHT"! LOL Yes, I would recommend anyone to get this trashcan, and yes I would and am likely to buy another one for my son and his wife for their kitchen as they need one this size and have the perfect spot for it.
Soft Step Lid Open Failure in under year and Review

I purchased this trash can as a Christmas gift for my wife. I selected this unit since it was similar to my wife’s previous kitchen trashcan which is no longer available for purchase. The previous trashcan was stainless steel based with a step pedal which lasted about 10 years. I knew that my wife liked the stainless-steel oval look with the inner sleeve design. This unit appeared to check most of the boxes. Since Amazon is asking me to rate the “Smudge-proof” feature, I gave it three stars. I don’t think this unit delivered on the marketing hype as evidenced by the one of the attached photos. But finger residue proofing anything is a difficult challenge and I think this trashcan does an okay job at it. At least I can wipe away the smudges easy enough. Amazon is asking me to rate the “Motion detection” feature. This trashcan doesn’t come with such a feature. So I am giving it no stars. I wonder if this feature rating was automatically presented due to some AI algorithm or if someone just wasn’t going to do his job and make sure that the right features are in alignment with the product being rated? Amazon is asking me to rate the “For small spaces” feature. I give it a solid two stars. As you can see in the one photo with the tape measure, you need to position your trashcan at least three inches away from the wall or you are going to slam the lid against the wall when you open it. (That is before that feature fails, see below…) I am constantly pulling the trashcan away from the wall so that the next time I step on the pedal, I don’t leave marks on my drywall (sheetrock for you California types). So, after almost ten months of use, the lid opening by pedal feature discontinued working. I spent a few hours on a Saturday in late September trying to diagnose it. I started by looking for and at the owner’s manual. As usual, there wasn’t much in the way of troubleshooting guidance. I searched for and watched several DIY YouTube videos on trashcan reparation and maintenance. I didn’t find anything particularly useful. I also read many of the answered questions on Amazon. So I spent some time studying the basic mechanism. The lid is connected to the base of the trashcan at a hinge. Attached to the lid is a black connection point for a horizontal portion of a connecting rod to run through. This connection point has two positions for the rod to reside. The main position is where the rod sits normally. The second position is where the rod sits when the user pushes the lid back so that it is held open rather than slowing closing. I could see evidence of where the separation of those two positions have started to wear out. But this doesn’t explain why the pedal actuated opening does not work. The rod bends to a vertical length and runs down to the backside of a horizontal black plastic pivot. When you push on the pedal this backside raises and pushes the rod up. I checked this actuation several times. All seems good… but the lid just would open. With the lid in the way, there was no way for me to ascertain if the stroke distance was proper. So I removed the from the hinge to watch the actuation. Everything looked okay. At that point, I wondered if the pneumatic air damper was supposed to assist the opening in some way. I reviewed several of the comments on Amazon about the air damper. This idea seemed like a plausible longshot, so I decided to buy a replacement air damper from iTouchless. When I received the replacement, I installed it and this did not solve my problem. It did, however, showed me how weak the original air damper was. This weekend I decided to pull the black plastic pivot off and inspect it. When I did this, I found that the plastic pivot is designed with a “curve” in it to give the rod more stroke when the pedal is depressed. As I looked closer, I found that the black plastic was cracked all along the pivot point. As you can see in the pictures when the pedal is pushed down, a gap is formed by the pressure of the lid holding the rod down. This is why trashcan lid does not open, the black plastic pivot piece is cracked. So I plan to make a warranty claim since it has been less than one year. But I understand from other Amazon comments, warranty service apparently is less than satisfactory. Some other whining complaints. 1) the trashcan slides back on linoleum flooring when the pedal is depressed, requiring one to pull the thing away for the wall again. 2) the sleeve needs to be set in just right to fall all the way in. It often takes some jostling to get it seated properly. 3) the deodorizer package holder hinge broke before we even removed the package from the plastic bag.

We purchased this iTouchless trash can 2 years ago. Within the first 6 months, the soft close feature stopped working because the plastic piece that connects the lid to the can to ensure a soft-close broke. The lid would just slam down. So, my engineer husband created a fix that worked well for about 9 months. After owning the trash can for 18 months, the foot pedal pad came off. Turns out that one of the two small plastic nubs that flank the metal pad to hold it in place broke. Again, my husband came up with a fix. Six months later, the other plastic nub broke and the metal pad came off. again. Ha! Maybe our trash can experience was an anomaly but I suspect not--I suspect most people just don't come back to edit their initial reviews. It seems like we've all become so accepting of disposable products that we brush off short product lifecycle as a way of life. Meantime, our landfills overflow. Perhaps we should demand that better products with more substantial lifecycles be made? If you do buy this product, I hope it lasts for you. If you don't buy it, I hope the one you buy is a winner!

It is a good size and holds both recyclables and Trash. Nice design. Not really thrilled with how the trash bag fit in the bins. They could come up with a better system to hold the bags tight in the bins. I think it is a bit pricey. Replacement parts are very expensive. This is my second one. I wanted to get the first one fixed and the cost of parts was just about as much as ordering the new new. So I got a new one and hope it last at least two to three years.
