Impressive 4K projector with Android TV OS built-in
By Michael N on Reviewed in the United States on October 10, 2020
I’m a Capsule 2 user since 2019. The Capsule 2 is good, but not great for daytime-use especially in the bigger family room with large windows due to the limited brightness and resolution. This Cosmos Max caught my eye because of its design and 4K specs. Pros: 1. The design and built quality is great. Love the starlight top panel design. 2. The 4K image quality is bright and clear, good enough to use during the day in the family room. 3. The Android TV OS is easy to use. I use Netflix, YouTube, and Prime Video a lot and work perfectly so far. 4. The sound quality of the built-in speaker is great and loud, bass is very powerful. Looks like it supports Dolby digital plus. Cons: 1. So far not much to complain, but for this price, I do hope this is a ultra short throw projector so I can put it in front of the wall. 2. This projector is quiet, but not as quiet as my low er brightness & res Capsule, understood the 2500 lm generates much more heat. Other options like laser projectors on the market are too pricey 3. The Netflix and Prime video needs to be installed via the Nebula Manager app, it is very easy to install so I'm fine with it. Overall, a great smart 4K projector to try.

Poor Black Levels, broke after one year.
By rp100204 on Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2023
We purchased this projector to upgrade our 1080p DLP projector. I expected to be immediately blown away by the picture quality, but was severely disappointed. The "4K" was not any improvement over 1080p, and the black levels were so washed out, we were unable to watch dark movies. I spent hours adjusting settings and levels trying to make it optimal, but never was able to correct this problem. We kept the projector since we had gotten rid of the old one and just decided to live with it. Colors still looked good and to its credit it was bright enough to see with all of the lights in the room on. Gaming was also good, we just never would watch any movies that were dark due to the wash out. However, 1 year and 3 months later, the projector no longer turns on. Of course, it is 3 months out of warranty. We also would only use it 1-2 times a week max, which I consider light use. This has been the biggest disappointment we have purchased through Amazon to date. I would look elsewhere and focus on longer established brands. It may be worth it in the long run to spend slightly more.

The best projector for family fun

Bought it as a Thanksgiving gift for my husband. Perfect resolution when projecting to my wall, look even clearer than my 4K TV. Pros: 1. Easy to setup. Although it is said that it is an "Android TV", but I can easily connect it to my iOS then project iPhone video (e.g. from Youtube) to the whole wall ; 2. Perfect for kids. Since the resolution is pretty high (4k), my kids really enjoy it and I believe this high-resolution/large screen will be good for their eyes; 3. Internal speaker. This is a big plus for our home. I don't have a media room where can fit all speakers. The internal speaker from the projector brings fabulous sound and better HD quality compared with my current soundbar.  Cons: 1. I think the only con could be a little pricey, a little bit over my budget. However, compared with the quality it brought to you, I am pretty satisfied with it and you should love what you paid for.

Whether I'm watching regular network tv or a movie in uhd from one of my streaming services the picture quality is excellent. I have a Sony 85k 43" that I use to watch in the bedroom but hardly ever use now that I have this in the living room. I'm guessing if I compared them side by side the Sony might have a better picture but I can't tell the difference otherwise. I have it set back a little over 10ft which gets me about 105" picture. I am using a white wall as a screen and it works perfectly,so I see no need to buy a screen. The sound quality is also great, it has 4 speakers with Dolby audio and it almost sounds as good as my Sonos Beam. It also has Google Android 9.0 built in, if you don't have a streaming device. Also it has an LED bulb that says last the life of projector 30,000 hrs so no changing bulbs like lamp projectors. The negatives I would say are not as many settings like my tv such as Picture settings are very limited and no audio adjusments, remote has no mute button and easy to hit the wrong button till you get used to it. I mostly use my Roku Ultra. There is some fan noise but I didn't find it distracting even with it right next to me but you might notice in quieter scenes. The picture can be made smaller from 30" to 150" if you have a bigger living room but I left it at the 105" size I got when I set it up. Now as far as what settings to use for picture I have never agreed with all of the settings experts offer. I like Standard picture mode. Brightness stays at 100. Contrast 65 and instead of offering the usual warm, cool they have numbers so I did use the settings I took from an expert review to supposedly give me a warm picture. In Advanced settings, Under color temperature R-49,G-46,B-43 I left the Saturation,Hue and Gain settings as is,tried adjusting to expert settings but preferred the default. Also in Advanced changed Gamma to 1.8 it makes the picture a little brighter, but be warned if you change the picture mode to anything else like movie everything resets to default another negative I forgot to mention. Also it has something called Keystone correction which lines up the picture perfectly flat against the wall so you can put the projector where you want but the experts say don't use it because it affects the brightness. I wasn't able to line it up perfectly without moving furniture which I didn't want to do so I used it. Don't bother with Auto Keystone it only corrects Vertical unless that's your only issue my Horizontal was also off so I used manual correction. I found it's better to use the Quadrilateral Keystone correction had less effect on screen size and leave the Vertical and Horizontal set to default 0. The picture does look best in a darker room so having a lamp with a dimmer bulb or shutting light off. I also recommend room darkening shades which let's some light in if you want like I have which I use with blackout curtains partially closed. I've always wanted a big screen TV and this beats buying a huge TV and dealing with the setup and if I move put in back in the box and done!

Took a chance on this projector based on online video reviews. Packaged like an Apple product, it was a joy to unpack and easy to setup. I had the projector up and running in less than 10 minutes. Now, I will say that this is not meant for a bright living room environment, but more of a dimly lit room, or even better, a dark room environment. However, I was still able to get a nice picture projected on just a white bed sheet I’d pinned to the wall in my living room with all the lights off and blinds closed on the windows during the day. I can imagine that once I get a true projection screen up there, it will be brighter. The sound is similar to the sound produced by my Amazon Echo (latest generation). In other words, good sound! One could actually get away with not using any other sound system if they wished. Definitely a good buy in my opinion.
Smart Projector with Lots of Capabilities

Product is amazing. I haven't even watched anything else on my 72" tv because the massive size this can project up to. The NBA finals are gonna be awesome to watch. I have only projected it on a bare wall. I will eventually get a screen which will make it even more crisp. Granted this is my first projector but man it is above and beyond expectations. I also watched many reviews on this and it seems that it is an amazing price for all of it's capabilities not too mention the major upside to this unit is you don't have to replace bulbs like many of the uber expensive projectors. My last main gush about this projector is the portable capability as I can take it outside if I'd like. My only con is I wish it would be a little bit brighter. It's fine in a dark setting or at night but if you plan to have this near a window it becomes hard to see.
True theater picture and SOUND!!

I rarely ever write reviews but this projector is just too awesome not to tell people about it. My husband is really handy so it was super easy for him to install. He had to run wire through the ceiling to add an outlet so if you’re not handy then you may need to hire a professional. Either way it’s absolutely worth it! The picture is amazing. It’s bright even with a window in the room. What impresses is the most though is the SOUND! Oh my goodness! It doesn’t have a ton of bass but for what it is the sound is great! We are so far super pleased with this projector and highly recommend!

Amazing projector! I bought this as a surprise for my wife on Christmas 2020. I’ve been meaning to install a wall mounted television in our master bedroom. Instead, we now have a full wall theater! She was thrilled and the only downside is that I’m not sure I can top this gift idea anytime soon... The good: -affordable 4K projector that works well in the daytime - exceptional quality - easy to install and operate with smart TV built in What could be improved? - Digital zoom to adjust screen size works fine, but leaves an annoying dim lit frame of the default resolution. I wish I could make the entire screen switch between short through to theater-sized ratios. You soon forget the extra light is there, but it’s annoying if you have ocd with things like this.
Nebula Cosmos Max

I am going to raise my review from a 2 to a 4 because of a software update that helped with a lot of my con;s. Also if you tired of mfgs with poor customer service, you will LOVE Anker. They are super responive and really reach out to their customer. Call them and if they put you on hold for more than a few minutes they automate the call with a "We will call you back" and the actually do. Great Service .... This is a review of the nebula Cosmo Max I'm comparing this with the WiMiUS P20 video projector which I bought approximately 12 months ago it is 6000 lux and it's connected to an Amazon fire stick. The Cosmos is connected likewise. I'm not sure what the difference is between Lux and lumens but I know there is a vast difference. The Cosmos has a rating of 1500 lumens. The WiMiUS P20 is much brighter than the C0smos. The Cosmos is connected via a very large power brick. A problem if you are ceiling mounting it. It also only has an optical output, again this could be a problem with a ceiling mount and you now have to rum a long optical cable. Upon setting up the cosmos it was an immediate problem with the brightness of the unit it was extremely dark and I was not able to get any sound out of the Cosmos with the firestick, All I heard we're sort of beeping noises. I tried different settings with no avail I then called or customer service and was immediately told that the solution was to send the unit back. They would issue a prepaid mailer and they would send me a new one as soon as the as soon as USPS showed it was shipped. This would approximately take a week to 10 days After more fiddling around with the controls, I finally got the darkness to go away. The only way I think I accomplished this was by shutting off the CEC settings and believe that's what cause the problem to go away. The sound on the firestick came through and the brightness went up like 100%. I held off on the return. After 4 days the unit only showed the Nebula logo and would not go any futher. After trying to troubleshot with support, I was told to sent the unit back for replacement to them. I decided to use Amazon and they replaced the unit the next day. When you start the unit the first thing you're presented with is it Google sales pitch which is very irritating. I wish that when you started the unit it would either go to one of the inputs so that I don't have to go through this sales pitch Google provides. The biggest problem I have with the unit is the color rendering of the unit and the brightness. If you're playing a network show, such as a football game or a news broadcast, the picture is relatively bright without a problem except for the color rendering. By that I mean sometimes you will have people that have slightly green faces and people that have slightly red faces. If I play the same program on the WiMiUS P20 the picture is perfect. II play the same input back on a large-screen TV , the picture also does not have this problem. I believe this is a software problem with the cosmos because the difference in color between different scenes, different movies, different Imputs is remarkably different and it's a major problem when you're trying to watch a program. I was constantly changing the picture settings to get a better picture only to have to redo them for a different inut or movie. If you are watching somethine with dark scenes, big problem. A good example is watching any of the John Wick movies which are all very dark movies. You lose most of the detail in the movie. Another example is seeing the faces of black actors in a scene, you lose all features on their faces. Not so with the WiMiUS P20 , dark scenes come through with much more brightness, not as sharp but much brighter. Playing 4K content is very poor. The sharpness is there but it is like looking at the picture through a screen door or a smoke filled room. The sharpness, hands dpwn the Cosmos is super. Blows the WiMiUS P20 away. I have a lot of 10 -15 year old movies ripped as 480 and the Cosmos upscales these to look like 1080, same with 720's. Football games come over almost like on a 82almost "OLED. I would like to add that Nebula did respond to this review and mentioned that that are working to improve their product. The also replied to all my emails on conserns to problems I was having, while they did not resolve them, but tryed. So I would give the a plus 10 in customer support.

Upgraded from an Anker Prizm II (which is a very good budget projector) and I'm REALLY pleased with it so far. The color gamut and autofocus are the most noticeable improvements, with vibrance that is much closer to what you'd expect from an LCD screen. The interface is intuitive although the remote control is tricky to use in a dark room -- glow-in-the-dark labels or different button textures would have been much more accessible. It's really helpful having an autofocus button on the remote, although you may have to play with the light level in your room to get it to hit properly. I found the Prizm II had too much lag/latency for video gaming; fortunately this is not the case with the Cosmos Max 4k. It's probably insufficient for competitive online games, but at least you won't have to worry about tiny illegible text ever again. Bluetooth settings easily sync to a modern Xbox controller, which is a nice feature. It even has the Google TV app store, but it curiously lacks Netflix and AirPlay as of July 2021. You need to install the Nebula Connect app on your phone and Nebula Manager on the projector to enable this, which is a bit more kludgy than "it just works." But it'll get you there. I didn't buy this projector for the audio but I'm pleasantly surprised at how good it sounds. Like, "maybe I don't need to worry about a 5:1 system for a few years" good. Bass is decent, and the audio separation is impressive. Like I said, I upgraded to this from another projector, so my biggest concern was "what if I spend all this money and the upgrade is barely noticeable." That is not the case! It's a substantial upgrade and I recommend it. Thanks for reading.
