I give this a 3 star rating as I asked before I purchased it if it was a hard shell. The short answer is no. It is not. The overall look is just as pictured. Inside is very spacious. The overall quality is nice. I will review it again after our first trip to see how sturdy it is. There is a zipper pull missing in the inside but other than that I am satisfied with this purchase.
