Great scooter for the commuter!
By Michael & Shannon on Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2020
I am new to electric scooters so this is a review by a novice. I am 35 years old and grew up biking everywhere. However, age and medical issues are catching up with me and biking isn't as enjoyable as it once was. I live 9 miles away from my work and wanted an option to commute to work.Today I rode it for the first time after charging it and decided to take it to work. The scooter did awesome. I am a heavy rider, about 240 pounds and needed to use sport mode to make it up a few hills, but did great. The top speed for me is 18 in sport mode and hit 20 down hills. In D mode the top speed is 15 and in Eco the top speed is 10, but the motor has very little torque to make it up hills in Eco mode, while on Sport mode you can zip up pretty much anything. Eco great for putting around with my kids on thier bikes and scooters. The battery range is awesome. After a 20.1 mile commute I still had 40% battery left. I suppose I could have driven it 30, but I was told discharging the cells too low is bad for it.The suspension is lacking, as there is none. The 10 inch tires do very little to cushion large bumps. On a rocky road my brain felt like it was shook loose. However, most of my commuting is on pavement so it's perfect. At 6'1" with size 13 shoes the board seems to be a little too narrow for me, however I don't see this as a big problem as I don't believe I was in the target market when they designed this.Brakes work exactly as they should. There is a front drum brake and the internal hub motor will also help with braking and slow you down if you release the throttle. The segway app is lacking in a few aspects, but there are third party apps you can use with expanded functionality.Set up was a breeze, save for one aspect. In the stem of the handle bars when you install them make sure you look into the stem. You will see a blue wire that needs to be connected. If you do not connect it, the scooter will turn on and say error 14. So make sure it is plugged in before you install the screws.I am very happy with my purchase so far and highly recommend it. Nothing compares in the price range in my opinion and build quality is top notch. Also aftermarket support seems to be starting like it was with the m365 and m365 pro, so you can expect parts availability.Overall I highly recommend and give the ninebot max 5 stars.

Some good features but generally a let down
By Silverback61 on Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2024
Just unboxed the ninebot Max 30LP and took for a ride. I rarely leave reviews but for this, based on the price, it is warranted. Its not all bad but as I write this, I think more disapointment than good-Some my own fault. I reviewed electric scooters for couple weeks before I bought. I bought an electric bike-not yet unboxed-for the wife and figured when we go to camp/boat around the northwest, we would use these to get 15 miles or less to and from the boat or campsite to a destination- Think places like Friday Harbor in San Juans. So, now after the first ride -The good - It fits a 5'10" frame well. I'm not bending over to control it. Platform size great for size 9 feet. Well balanced, easy to ride, handles packed gravel well. Uber easy to set up and fold down to carry. Light weight and even the wife can one arm it around. Looks to be sturdy construction and doesnt have the cheap chynee flavor 2 it. Has headlight and tail light-not that I will ride at night. Display large and easy to read and scroll pattern is intuitive. Has several safety features for those without situational awareness like needs a push start to 3 MPH before it will engage and go. Easily hits 19 MPH with me on a flat plane.Has three modes of speed allowance - Eco, D, and S (sport). I will always use on highest setting (sport) but from a safety perspective, those without athletic ability/situational awareness, set to Eco and you cant get really hurt.... Battery life - For those that dont know, you want to store LiPo batteries at 75% if you dont intend to use for several months. If you store at higher, theres a chance the batteries can discharge and develop detrimental memory. These were set from the factory right at 75% when unboxed. Someone was thinking for us...........So definitely a 4 or 5 of 5 when considering these parameters. Now the bad - I weigh 200#. The specifications state it can handle 220# and it can for sure. As noted, I can easily hit 19 MPH when on flat terrain. BUT their spec that says it can handle a 20% slope. Well that's just plain fantasy unless maybe you weigh 75#? I havent tested on multiple slopes yet but I can tell you it struggles on a 5% slope. So, for those adults that are in the 150 to 250 wt category, dont settle for a 350 Watt motor output. Size up >500 Watter. Yea, its more coin but you wont be disappointed riding slight hills with your wife on an E-Bike that will kick ur A@#. I am charging the battery to full and will try it again once fully charged and will revise review if full charge gets me up to 10% grade I just tested on. And, a silly 1 year max warranty on limited parts with 6 month or less on the actual stuff that will go bad like the electric motor. The Ugly - You have to use bluetooth to register and run this thing. I didnt know that when I bought it. Would have found a different one had I known. Why is this ugly? Its a chynee company. The registration/APP makes you a "known" entity to Segway at a minimum. They can share data-Email, phone number, and worse, to actually make the app work you have to give it "location tracking". Their guise is to allow you to "share with the Segway community". I tried several ways to deny this last one but it wont complete the bluetooth handshake without selecting approve location share. You end up in a do loop otherwise.Bottom line, based on the price, engineering that went in, ease of use, its a decent scooter for the money. I dont know with the location tracking this would be appropriate for child, not sure.Hope this review helps others decide.
