The best robot vacuum! Worth every penny!!
By SachOnly on Reviewed in the United States on December 24, 2019
I bought this ECOVACS deebot ozmo 920 on the Black Friday day from amazon with 50% discount. This is one of the best deal I got for one of the best product. ECOVACS has demonstrated how the available technology can be integrated together delivering a great product. Amazon promised to deliver in a weeks time but actually was delivered in 5 days. It was nicely packaged to avoid any damage during shipping so amazon gets credit for the price and shipment. The robot has a great finish and looks like made with a quality material. The quick start guide was very easy to follow and I downloaded the ECOVACS home iOS app after scanning the barcode on the robot. Followed the instructions on the app and connected to the wifi. It only works with 2.5 GHz wifi frequency. I have an Apple router and it has both 2.5 and 5 GHz so got connected within seconds. 2.5 GHz can penetrate the walls better than 5 GHz and the robot needs wifi connection to do its job therefore ECOVACS supports only 2.5GHz. The first cleaning cycle created a complete map of the house. The map is very accurate and you can see the robot inside the app moving on the floor in real-time. There are lot of features in the app. Following options are available in the app for starting the cleaning cycle. Auto: it cleans the whole house in a single cycle. Custom: you can create a custom area on the map with your fingers and it cleans only that area. I use this feature to clean a hallway entrance which gets dirty with the dirt from footwear. You can use whatever custom area you need and get it cleaned. Area: To use this feature you need to first divide your home into different rooms or sections and then you can just select that area or areas and it will clean in the selected orders. E.g. I have created areas like living room, dining area, kitchen, kid’s rooms, bedroom, bath, etc. It also has a mopping capability and the way ECOVACS has designed it is really worth appreciating. It comes with a small water tank to which a mopping plate can be attached with a cleaning cloth. The whole assembly of water tank along with the mopping plate and it’s cleaning cloth can be snapped under the robot while doing a vacuum on hard floor. The mopping feature is obviously only relevant for hard floors so the robot doesn’t go on the carpet once it has mopping plate installed. My house is mostly carpet with tile floor in the kitchen and bathroom. So usually I keep mopping plate removed from the robot and let it vacuum the carpet area first. Whenever I need to clean the hard floor, the robot can be summoned to that area and mopping plate along with water tank can be snapped in once the robot arrives in that area. It needs to be paused for the same and then cleaning can be resumed once the water tank along with the mopping plate is snapped in. The water output can be controlled through the app. Coming to the most important task of vacuuming, the suction is powerful and it’s able to suck all the dust and debris from the carpet or hard floor. The robot automatically adjusts the suction power for carpet vs hard floor. It navigates along the selected area in a systematic way. First it does the cleaning around the walls or edges and then goes in straight lines covering the selected area. I haven’t experienced any missing spot so far. The app has a feature to schedule cleaning for different areas in a given sequence. The dust container is enough if you are cleaning 2-3 times a week else you may need to empty the container during the cleaning cycle. The cleaning can be paused and resumed again either from the button on the robot or from the app. It has a strong battery which can run for 110 minutes. If it runs out during cleaning, the robot goes to the charger and once fully charged resumes the cleaning exactly from the same spot. I experienced an excellent service from ECOVACS support team. If you have any specific questions or issues support team can be contacted through chat or message function from the app itself and I got prompt response from them. The only problem you may face if you have a floor with black design or so. I have a area rug which has a black borders and it was avoiding that area because the sensors thought it has a step. The support team suggested to put an aluminum foil over the sensors and that worked. Since I don’t have any steps it works for me. However, it can be issue. The robot also provide audio feedback while cleaning. It works with Alexa or google home too . I have an apple HomePod so haven’t used this feature. Hope ECOVACS can provide support for Siri/ Apple home as well. Overall my experience is very good with this model which has saved me and my wife from pain of vacuuming on our own. The house is getting cleaned more frequently and it feels great. Thank you ECOVACS and Amazon! Do not look for any other robot vacuum just buy this one.

Lidar stopped working after 1 day

I really, really wanted this thing to work. It did amazingly well in its first run. Mapped the entire house, cleaned extremely thoroughly, and found its way back to the dock with no problem. I was able to edit the house map to block off my barstools that vacuums always get stuck on. I was omg, finally! The perfect vacuum! But then the problems started. It disconnected from wifi and didn't run the next day at its scheduled time. I reconnected it and manually started it. But it didn't use the existing house map, and got stuck on the darn barstools. And jt was trying to remap the house, but the lidar stopped working after about 1.5 rooms. I manually ran it again, and no lidar. I reset it, and still zero lidar. I contacted support, and they told me to reset it again. Still no lidar. They offered to have me send it back in for repairs, but that's not worth the time. I'll just buy a new one and hope that one isn't defective.

"I'm starting to clean"

"I'm starting to clean", I heard a voice whisper breathlessly, penetrating the fog of my fatigue induced slumber. I knew it couldn't be my spouse. I was dozing on the couch after a long, colorful day of Covid-19 work from home (WFH). Upon hearing her suggestive assertion, I rolled over to peer at my son, who had been cutely/incessantly whispering "Pew pew pew", surrounded by a sea of Lego Star Wars. "Watch out," I mumbled. "Roomba is going to suck up all those legos if you don't move them", I parented. He paused and said, "This isn't Roomba, daddy. This is Deebot!" He reminded me that Deebot 920 had the capability to program "no fly" zones via a handy app, so no separate units were needed to "block out" areas with precious legos. I rolled over just in time to see the Deebot veer away from my son's playroom, dutifully following the map it had scanned of the second floor of our townhouse, using its 3.0 laser navigation system. It was day 30+ of the shelter in place orders, so the entire house was a mess, actually. I idly considered whether I needed to move Deebot downstairs to clean up after a small party we had had a few days ago (don't worry, everyone yelled at each other from 6 feet away, and the NP swabs from testing still lay disgustingly outside our front door). Since Deebot had multi-floor mapping, all I would need to do is relocate it and let it scan the new environment before it recognized the other floor map. I marveled at how Deebot varied her suction power (get your mind out of the gutter, please) as she rumbled across hardwood and on to the carpet under our dining room table, sucking up cheerios, potato chips, and rice bits on the floor. She automatically adjusted for the difference in surfaces, reducing power (and volume) if unnecessary. I was able to hear our Alexa chiming an alarm as she continued on her way, reminding me it was bath time. I asked Alexa to cancel vacuuming and Deebot cycled down and started making its way back to her charging cradle. I was impressed at how reliable Deebot had been over the past 6 months, logging over 50 hours of service and thousands of square feet cleaned. The app control, multi-floor mapping capability, intelligent navigation, dual swiping hands and easy to empty dust bin had made our lives much cleaner during the shelter in place order. "I'm starting to charge", she declared. I was thankful for her robot work, and I think you will too if you have a smaller multifloor townhome, a kid with too many legos, and the Covid-19 blues (leading to unnecessarily floral reviews). Highly recommended!

So far this robot has been good. Would like to touch on a few things that were wonderful. The amount this bot picks up is amazing. Two dogs and picks up the hair like magic. Smart robot that is gental with my furniture and can navigate very well. Goes over my 3/4 inch thresholds very well, never gets stuck. Goes in a nice pattern making sure not to miss anything. Does okay with bathroom rugs and floor mats. Sometimes gets stuck others pulls over them like a champ. I have a sprawling 2050 sq foot ranch with cleaning area almost 1300 sq ft, about half carpet and half hard surface. In standard mode for suction with auto boost on for carpets I got almost 90 minuets of battery. In standard without auto boost, I got almost 110 minuets of run time. In quiet mode without auto boost, I got 144 minuets with battery still left over with the robot cleaning the whole home. In quiet mode it still picked up quit a bit. Does very good in the dark and under furniture. Although this robot is taller than some, it can get under two of my couches that are 4 inches off the ground. The app is great to auto schedule cleanings and what areas you want cleaned. I have it set to clean heavy use areas where people and dogs stay most of the time to twice a day (allergies require hair to be picked up often, and Huskies shed allot, but wont get rid of the dogs). And the auto schedule works great. Starts on time and I dont have to worry about it. The no go or boundary lines work well. Needed to set a boundary line for my sons gaming chair, the robot would climb the base and get stuck. Have not had any issues with cords but they are all hidden behind furniture because ya know kids! I love that i can see where the robot is on the app and where it has cleaned. I have not had any connectivity issues. Let me start this by stating I use the orbi mesh router with a satellite on the opposite end of the house. For the individuals complaining about the 2.4 internet, it's actually better because it can go longer distances and is better through walls and obstacles keeping the robot connected better. The issue is not the robot getting it to connect, its your phone that dont want to connect to 2.4. The simple work around is turn off 5g at the router and reconnect phone to the wifi. This is accomplished easily by going to the router and looking for the routers webpage. Type it into a computer and u can adjust the router. Once connected to the 2.4 the app works flawlessly. After connected you can turn 5g back on. The robot will stay connected to the 2.4g and ur phone will not need to stay connected to 2.4 for use of the app. This is just for setup. This works even if 2.4 and 5g share the same name. Now for some negatives. I had to run the robot several times to get the area map to work. I finally had to delete the map, set the robot to quiet mode and remap the entire house without needing to recharge. Worked perfectly. Have the area map now on the map. The robot does have some issues returning to the base sometimes. I have noticed when the room the base sits in is dark the robot has issues finding the base. Also if the robot"finds" an object in the way back to the charger it will get lost. What I mean is, we have a certain divider going into the room with the charger. Although the curtain does not touch the floor, the robot will sometimes see this as a block that it cannot pass. I just have to remember to open the curtains. The dust bin is slighlty small, and I have to pause the vacuum during cleaning to dump the bin, but not that big of an issue since it's super easy to take out and dump. Integration with alexa is not great. Does not show as a device but can still control via voice once the skill is enabled and account signed into. Must call the robot deebot, does not go by given name. I see this as a negative because it could cause confusion if there are multiple robots. The voice control is limited but I do not see myself using alexa much because of auto scheduling and the limited voice control, cannot tell alexa to only clean certain areas. I have not tried the mopping feature yet. So far very happy with this purchase and the ability to not have to vacuum my floors multiple times a day due to dog hair! This is the first robotic vacuum I have owned so I cant compare it to any other. But does a decent job of getting dirt and hair so I dont have to vacuum multiple times a day.

I will be updating this once I figure out how to connect my Kindle and my ECHO show 10 for Aleca integration... Update: since April 2021... Now May. I'm using it significantly less due to my inability to get a decent map to be completed and saved... That's my fault. By the way Kindle does not have the ecovacs app... Perhaps we download it off the internet? Also my Nokia 3.0 I still haven't checked to see if it will let me use the app on that phone instead of the Motorola... Oh wait this phone is Samsung J20 hmm I should try at least lol. First, setting up was easy! Just look for you 2.5 wifi in setting and connect your phone to it, then use password for your 2.0 or 2.5 wifi. If you have only 5.0 with no way to access 2.5 or 2.0 do not purchase I think. Second, it takes a while to map your first floor and save your first map. Once that is done its important to remember if you have any troubles and it doesnt remember where it is... after you untangle the loose carpet edge string which is a frayed square of carpet that is underneath the metal bedframe stands on the floors in order to avoid scratching the floor... move it back to the charging dock manually to restore the map. I also am unsure if it would work to map a second floor without moving the charging dock but I've updated now to decide I should move the charging dock to each floor. The third floor is temporary no matter what how does it get there do Imove the charging dock lol ugh Third, it recommends quiet mode for the mopping which i always forgrt at first... also it can't go on carpets to vacuum while mopping so it can't vaccum carpets and mop at the same time but it can do a good job quietly vacuuming hard wood floors simultaneously (quiet mode is only a one time setting only visible to me in the app after clicking the notification that says Cleaning Complete... while its cleaning or not cleaning...). It might just be my vacuum but she doesn't cross carpets to mop other floors. The mopping plate and water tank fall off sometes three so far. Fourth, I'm having trouble using the multi floor advanced setting. Do you move the charging dock to a specific spot (which you specifically cannot move the charging dock or you will lose the map) when you want to switch floors? I think I found one time online it said love the charging dock to its home upstairs and downstairs when you switch floors. Recently, after a month, I know because I can return for the next 3 days only... finally ive gotten a map of downstairs with scheduled cleaning and area cleaning...completely boundaries off, no mopping settings, a few days earlier it had done well mapping upstairs and before that it was downstairs getting the second first map down I cant remember why. Anyways sorry... uhm upstairs it combined my floor for downstairs on top of my upstairs .. I'm so bewildered and I hope I get ot down. If I cant I hope they make an exception and let me return ugh should I just return. It completed a cleaning upstairs today so I will check to see of I can save that map and I brought it downstairs tonight to map just the living room and bedroom then tomorrow morning I want to bring it upstairs without the dock to see if that helps keep the maps.... Trying it out at another house we are visiting family! I'll let you know how that goes.
Fix for “Setup Failed” WiFi connection problems

*edit - downgraded to one star due to ongoing glitches that make this vacuum more trouble than it is worth. The vacuum works fine, and the mapping is pretty effective after you figure out how to actually make it save inside the app. However, connecting it to WiFi was a challenge, to say the least. After multiple attempts to connect via the app, the process kept timing out and failing. I contacted support, but that was fundamentally ineffective. The support agent copied and pasted from a long script of steps to try, and then disconnected the support session midway through me performing the long list of steps. Ultimately, he wouldn’t have solved the connection problem anyway (more to come on that), but the lack of professionalism was jarring. I finally figured out the solution myself: the vacuum had trouble connecting to my WiFi, despite having the correct username and password, because the SSID (WiFi network name) was classified as hidden in the router. This has not been a problem with any other appliance that needs to connect to the WiFi. In any event, after I modified the router settings to publicly broadcast the SSID, the vacuum connected without issue. I haven’t seen this on any support page, and their tech support certainly didn’t seem to know about it. I just got lucky - hopefully this help someone else.
Works well as a basic vac but the added features need significant improvement

I am very pleased with how the vacuum does its basic jobs (vacuuming and mopping). I love the systematic approach: it vacuums the perimeter of room and then cleans the room in a back-and-forth striping pattern. The battery life is closer to 55 minutes for me on all carpet. This is roughly half of the battery life the manufacturer gives for this unit. I have yet to come even close to the 110 min per cycle. My apartment is 850 square feet, not including furniture, and it must stop to charge before completing. It takes about 4hrs to charge fully. I have had trouble with the vacuum locating itself for scheduled tasks. It will attempt to locate but fail and then begin a new cleaning cycle by erasing the map. Very frustrating when it is programmed to do only certain rooms because it cannot find those areas or navigate to a selected area on the map. I am currently emailing with EcoVacs support on this issue. With over 10 emails back-and-forth, they have yet to give a solution which I have not already tried on my own. I had it get stuck under a bed and an LDS error message sent to my phone. The LDS (Laser Directional System) troubleshooting steps did not work, but I read that vacuuming out the Laser area with a traditional vacuum may remove something that is blocking a sensor. Seems to have worked. The vacuum can now navigate again. This vacuum is a little loud. It will wake you up if it is scheduled to run at night. I found this out the hard way when it stopped to charge after a cleaning and restarted again about 4hrs later. Overall, I am a bit disappointed. I bought this mostly for its mapping and app features, these have been the most frustrating aspect of this vacuum. I am almost to the point of just pulling out my regular vacuum again a couple times a week to do spot cleaning. Since its really good at just basic vacuuming an entire floor plan, I might just run it once a week and let it remap every time. You're paying for these extra features and its a shame they don't function properly
Quieter, gentler and much more advanced than our old one

2nd Update 12-14-20: We've had this robot for about a year now. Overall we're happy with the purchase. Time will tell if we continue to feel that way. We've noticed some wear and tear. Specifically, the laser has had some issues and caused it to not do its regular cleaning. The fix? Tap the top... I also cleaned it out with the little brush that's inside the device. It's working for now. We do everything we can to avoid losing the map. It takes about a week for it to correctly rebuild it because it never works the first try and the area is large. The first recommendation by customer service when there's an issue is to reset her, which means losing the map. Uh, no. What I do when she gets messed up, confused, builds the map wrong, or just about any other complaint that she has, I grab her on the back end and trap her/spin her until she stops and says she's confused. Then I turn her off. I wait a minute and turn her back on. She'll say, relocating, and will usually get it right. If I don't mess with her and only turn her off then on, she doesn't relocate herself well and won't accurately reset the map. She frequently messes up the map, so now that I know how to fix it, it's a little better. But, she seems to have an increasing number of errors or issues lately. So, like I said, we'll keep an eye on her and hope she lasts at last a few years. Original review 12-2-2019: We purchased this on sale on cyber Monday. We have a large kitchen that needs daily vacuuming. Our last old roomba a was loud and clunky. It banged into everything. This vacuum is quiet in comparison and gentle on chair legs and walls. We absolutely love the advanced mapping. It allows us to use virtual barriers and areas. Until our first map is complete we use custom area to get it to clean where the kids eat. You’ll see real use run time vs square footage in the image. We don’t get a full clean of our first floor on one charge but it tells us when it goes to the charger what it’s doing and then will resume once it’s charged. The image is when it had just run out of battery and was returning to the charger. 1st Update: It took several days to make our map. We learned you can't move the base station after making the map. If you do, delete the existing one and redo. We, like others, put up our chairs on table tops and removed every stray object from the floor so the robot would have fewer objects to go around. This increased the speed it moved. It still took one full run + one full charge + another partial run to do the map. The first time it went through this sequence after we moved the base station it drew the map going Northeast instead of North-South. This created two overlapping maps going two different directions which meant the robot was confused and had no idea where it was, nor could it find the base station. After giving it time to sort it out, I picked it up and brought it back to the charger, deleted the map and started over. Second time we ran through this sequence it worked and we were able to save the map. I was then able to subdivide some of the areas into rooms. We have large open spaces and when attempting to divide our kitchen into a dining/living/kitchen area it kept saying I needed to divide only one space at a time. I was. I couldn't get it to work despite trying to create it various ways.

We've had this thing for about 6 months now. It's awesome, when it's not mad at me for something. I'll explain... Pros: Cleans carpets and hard floors. Alexa Integration. Doesn't take up much space. The mapping and scheduling functions. The app in general. Easy for me to setup. German Build Quality. Let's start with the good stuff. The thing does an excellent job on any surface. I'm quite impressed with how much "Husky Glitter" it collects every time it makes a lap. We don't really find any hair laying around anymore. "Alexa, tell Deebot to go to bed!" You can also tell Deebot to clean the kitchen, etc. That's pretty cool. I'll tell it to clean the dining room after dinner. The first time you plug it in, and setup the app, your new Deebot will run around the house and make it's first map. You then can edit that map, in the event that it doesn't understand where the doorway is between a bedroom and bathroom, or divide up the kitchen and dining room. That's awesome! After you've made the map, you can then make a cleaning schedule. Mine is set to clean the living room, kitchen, dining room, laundry and front bathroom daily at 22:00. It then does the three bedrooms, and master bathroom, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. That's all really easy to setup. I love this! Built by Germans. It looks nice. Seems to be built pretty tough. I've dropped it a few times while cleaning out brushes, etc. It didn't care. Cons: The pause button on top doesn't pause? Don't pick it up when it's running. Won't come out from under the bed before going into failsafe mode due to eating a sock. Can't put soap in the mop water. Over Complicated. Their tech support. So, the here's the annoying stuff.... DON'T push the pause button on top if it's running! This does actually stop the machine, but it's going delete your maps and schedules! If you're lucky, your machine will restore it's map when it goes back to the charging dock. Picking up the machine does the same thing. That seems to only work about 50% of the time. I've had to rebuild the maps and schedules about once a month since we got this thing... You need to go into the app and push pause, or yell "Alexa, tell Deebot to Pause!" That's pretty annoying when you've accidentally left a piece of paper on the floor and it's making horrible noises. So, it ate a sock under the bed one time, right? Wouldn't it be awesome if could come out of from under the bed before it shuts itself down? Yeah, it didn't do that. I had to move the bed because it's slightly too low for me to crawl under.... You're not supposed to use any kind of cleaning solution when you put it in mopping mode due to Ecovacs being afraid of you clogging up the nozzles. Apparently, Ecovacs makes a solution, but it's only sold in Germany. Why?!?! Who wants to mop with just water?!?! Doesn't this whole thing sound like fun? I actually like it, but it's way too complicated for the average person to want to mess with. My 72-year-old mom wouldn't want one. She'd get mad every time she had to reset the maps due to someone picking it up or pushing the button on top. She'd probably never get the scheduling to work right. The last gripe is their tech support. I've only had to deal with them once, but I figured out a solution before they did. This thing does it's nightly sweep, right? My kid is in bed at that point, so his door is closed. The next morning, it's supposed to clean his bedroom but, it thinks the door is closed and skips it. I asked tech support about that. They had me do a bunch of useless stuff and couldn't fix it. I figured out to add the hallway into the bedroom cleaning routine so that it goes by the kid's door, and sees it open. The tech support person said she'd tell their software engineers about my idea for the future.... So, would I buy another? Probably. Would I buy my mom one? Nope. Definitely not. I recommended one of the cheaper models, that doesn't do maps. I'm pretty sure I can set up a basic machine to run around and clean every night 22:00 and she won't have any problems because it's just feeling it's way around rather than having a map to follow. I also need to explain to her not to push buttons on top of it. If you're not REALLY good with technology, don't buy one of these things! The mopping function is still garbage because of not being able to use soap. Buy the $150 models...

Verified Amazon Purchase
UPDATE #4: DO NOT BUY THIS! I purchased the Deebot 920 from Amazon on 12/02/2019 and had to have it repaired under warranty less than a year later in October 2020. Now, just over a year later it seems my Deebot OZMO 920 is back in the same state and giving me the warning: “My laser distance sensor is blocked, please clean it” with the notification of "LDS malfunction. Please check" Just like before, I tap on it and it does nothing to correct the situation. I have also tried to do a reset, and still the same issue. I have a support ticket open but I am guessing they are going to tell me I am out of luck. How can this be so defective. UPDATE #3: Seems my refurbished unit is also having issues. First, the date and time are off and I am told that to fix it, I have to factory reset the unit and lose my map. First of all, this is so amateur. Who doesnt provide a network or even manual date/time sink. Second, I wont reset and loose my map because getting the map setup on the first use is really a pain in the ass and another amateur design flaw. You can only set up the virtual walls while it is working on a job. So yeah, you have to then babysit it for the first couple hours as it maps out your home and then you can set up the virtual walls. Super lame. As much as I like this robot, I would seriously suggest that you look at other options. After 10 months it really has gone downhill. I cant imagine this thing lasting more than a couple of years which is super lame. At least the Roomba that it replaced ran for 5 years before it fell apart. UPDATE #2: So after a few weeks of miscommunications through email, I got a prepaid shipping label (thank you) to ship my Deebot back. After about another 1.5 weeks, it was returned and I now have a new refurbished deebot that is working perfectly again. I am happy that at the end of the day, they were actually pretty quick to get it repaired. UPDATE #1: It has been almost a year and the Deebot's LDS system is failing. Keeps asking that I clean the laser distancing sensor, which I have. I also asks that I press it, which I have also done. I even spent a lot of time Googling this issue, which is actually widespread. One redit thread said try factory reseting it, which I did, and it worked once. Now, factory reseting does nothing. So I contacted Deebot cause it is still under warranty and they give this prolonged email thread which I have prove to them that this thing really is defective. It has been a month now and they said they would replace it (or maybe fix it). They said they were going to send me a box to ship it back to them. Then I get another email telling me that perhaps it is parked too close to stuff. It is not and I have picture to show them. Old review: Upgraded from a 4 year old Roomba that slowly lost its mind and became unusable. Wow, it was like going from a 1990 Buick to a Tesla. Really impressed with the quietness, thoroughness, and suction. Unfortunately it is not perfect (even though I am giving it 5 stars). It on occasion loses its mind too and wanders around a room looking for it's dock on the other side of the house, bumping and turning and never making it out of the room, even though the map shows the robot and the docking station. Finally it runs out of power and dies. I am guessing the software is not actually using the map to help guide it when it needs to get back to the station? There is definitely a glitch. Still, it is light years better than our old Roomba.
