So Fun!

I loved this game! As an adult who doesn't play video games much I was looking for something fun to play after I got a new switch. This game kept me intrigued for weeks. It had the perfect level of difficulty and kept getting harder the farther in you went. I love this game can't wait to play it through again

A Great Game With Noticeable Oversights & Lack of Challenge
By Tyler Mounce on Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2020
I love the Luigi's Mansion franchise--been playing since the original. I haven't played Dark Moon (LM2 if you're from somewhere like Australia), but I have now played 1 & 3. Like the original, LM3 has smooth & intuitive gameplay with equally smooth graphics. The mechnics of being able to suck virtually everything in a room and slam ghosts on the floor is very satisfying and quite hilarious (especially against the Boos). The characters are much more expressive compared to LM1, especially the Boos, whom I hope to keep this expressivity in future Mario games. The gibberish spoken by some characters is actually animated (e.g. with Morty and Prof. E. Gadd). Each level's theme is immersive with appropriate music, unlike LM1 which has a decent portion of the game in silence or Luigi whistling. I also like the cheeky references to the Virtual Boy and some aspects LM1 (i.e. King Boo's imitation of a vacuum in before the final boss fight). The game is not without noticeable flaws. First of all, the game feels like it took way too short to complete, having beaten it in only a few days (less if I didn't have college to worry about). The difficulty progression feels nonexistent or disorganized; for instance, the Fitness Center boss fight against Johnny Deepend felt way too easy & dissatisfying once you figured out how to beat him, despite being one of the last levels. In contrast, the Twisted Suite boss fight felt significantly more difficult; it was the only point I got a Game Over, and took place a couple levels earlier. Castle MacFrights & Paranormal Productions took place even earlier and we're overall more difficult than the Fitness Center level. Overall, the game is unchallenging, and that's a bad sign. Furthermore, there is a lack in ghost variety. LM1 had like 10 or so different types of standard ghosts with their own variants, plus small "nuisance" ghosts like bats, mice, and elementals. LM3 has only 7 standard types; two of which are just miniature variants of another type, one you almost never ecounter. The Super Suction mechanic is introduced very late in the game and is only used 3 times or so, nor is it used in any boss fight--so much for the hype! The Gooigi mechanic, whilst it may add some gameplay variety, is a bit of a chore to use. There are some points in the game that consistently lag, such as in E. Gadd's lab trying to view ghosts after you've discovered enough of them, namely after you defeat Serpci. I have not played the multiplayer, but first impressions are not good. I thought it would be this awesome PVP or selection of co-op missions, but it appears to be neither. I will update my review when I have played it. One thing I can say for sure is that asking money for DLC is inappropriate for this game. Perhaps Next Level Games could've made the single-player adventure absolutely amazing if they decided not to include the multiplayer. Overall, LM3 is a great & very well-executed game. But unlike LM1, which had small flaws you could brush under the table or never actually notice, LM3 doesn't even try to hide them. LM1 was also criticized for being too short of a game, but LM3 feels even shorter, too easy, and like it has less to offer. Some might say I'm now too good at video games to be playing this, having played video games for over 20 years, but that's misleading. I've played video games long enough to know what makes a game challenging or not. Because I was able to beat LM3 so quickly and with an A-rank on the first try, there is no replay value in it for me and I am already tempted to sell it. Seriously, why can't ALL video games be like Pokémon Black/White/Black 2/White 2? Those games were perfect: appropriate amount of challenge, immersive environments & gameplay, they take forever to complete, and leave you with plenty more to offer even after the main story.
