Antennas are an arcane art. As an old amateur radio operator, I know that they are very hit or miss, and the best you can do is try different configurations, different locations, and just hope for the best. And when you do actually get a set-up that works well, you try to lock it down and never change it. But that said, if your equipment is shoddy, with connectors and cables that are cheap and components that are sketchy, you never will get the kind of reception that you want. That is why this Antop equipment is so surprising: every single thing is rugged quality, and every component you might perhaps need, is included. Even the directions cover every possible variation in your equipment, meaning in this case, including the different kind of antenna connections your stereo set might display. Not to mention, of course, TV. Over-the-air TV, for me, is the fall-back position for play-off games and professional sports. I subscribe to more streaming services than I can justify, but I refuse to pay for all the games I really would like to watch, especially at the end of baseball and football seasons - and even sometimes, soccer and basketball. But the games I care about are usually broadcast on over-the-air (OTA) TV. I live between two ridges, so the reflections of the video signals bounce and reflect on their way to where I can pick them up, and they attenuate severely as well. So I can't afford to miss any of the signal strength that can work its way to me. So I was happily surprised when I put the Antop system together. It took an hour to find a location, a configuration, and a mounting angle that did it all, but one combination finally worked, and the signals are stronger than I had thought possible. Not always happy with the imported technology I order online, and a lot of it goes back. But once in a while, you're happily surprised with the quality and the attention to detail and completeness of the product, and you have to give credit. These folks really did it right.

Decent antenna...if.
By Beegee on Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2024
It's a decent antenna IF you live in a mostly unobstructed area or if you're very close to the nearest broadcast towers. Lots of trees and hills in my area plus lots of obstructions in the antenna's way between my apt. and the nearest tower in Seattle some 30+ miles away. I just get lousy reception here. The results have always been poor with every indoor antenna I've tried. I was optimistic and hoped this one would be better. It wasn't but it's not the antennas fault.

Terrible Reception where other antennas excelled

This thing is J-U-N-K junk. I have multiple indoor antennas in my home and all of them will pick up all my local channels. I decided to give this thing a go as it had a good review by AntennaMan on youtube and I wanted to see if it'd pull in a couple of farther away channels I don't get. This thing pulled in a whopping 1 channel where my other antennas get over 40. I tried everything and no dice. I did open a window, take the screen out and place the antenna on the roof and it then picked up a few channels but not all of them. Seriously, this hunk of junk pulled in less channels literally unobstructed outside than cheaper alternative antennas pull in inside my home through sheetrock and hardie board siding . Don't buy this thing, there are man, many alternatives out there that will better serve you.

The Bing Antop AT-500SBS Amplified HDTV & FM Antenna is a quality indoor antenna designed to significantly enhance your TV and radio signal reception. Nestled upstairs, this antenna effortlessly tunes in all local over-the-air channels, making it a notable addition to your home entertainment setup. The antenna's Smart Boost System is a standout feature, optimizing the reception to ensure clear HDTV channels without any hassle. This system also allows for a customized viewing experience, enabling users to adjust the antenna's reception power with a simple turn of a dial. Although advertised with an up to 80-mile signal range, some users have noted a slightly lesser range, yet the antenna still delivers a strong performance, especially in urban settings. One of the highlights of the AT-500SBS antenna is its dual connectivity feature, allowing it to connect to two devices simultaneously (two HD Home Runs in my setup), providing flexibility in setting up your home entertainment system. The built-in 4G LTE Filter is another commendable feature that helps reduce picture pixelation, ensuring sharp and clear picture quality. The multi-directional reception pattern of the antenna is great for receiving signals from different directions without the need for constant adjustments. Besides HDTV channels, the integrated FM antenna allows you to tune in to your favorite radio stations with ease. The compact and sleek BAR design of the antenna is aesthetically pleasing and blends well with home decor, adding a modern touch to your living space.
Perfect, If Not For The Customer Service Mess

Full disclosure - I live about 15 miles from downtown Chicago. My front window faces downtown, so I have a clear shot to the broadcast towers. That said, I was able to receive 90 channels with this antenna. That's about 25 more channels than I was getting on the HD "rabbit ears" antennas this replaced. I also liked the fact that I could connect a second device (in this case a Fire TV Recast, with a second rabbit ear antenna, that I use as my dvr since I cut the cable). Yes, this antenna is large, but I was able to replace two antennas that were taking up 3x the wall space behind the tv. The reason for the 4 stars - and that's being generous - is that this was supposed to come with two 5-ft coaxial cables for the two devices you can connect. I only got 1. There was no way that I could find to message the company, so I decided to "chat" with Amazon customer service to see about the second cable. First, they wanted me to send it back for a replacement. I said no, the antenna was fine. I didn't want to take the time/hassle of returning it. I just wanted the second cable. Then, I was told that they would just send a whole new antenna - no charge, no return necessary. Again, I said no. What am I going to do with 2 of these? I. JUST. WANTED. THE. SECOND. COAXIAL. CABLE. I thought that things were clear, but apparently not. When the chat finished not only did I find an order for a new antenna, I also got an email approving the return of the first one. So, apparently if you try to get cs chat to deviate from their script, they can't handle it and just follow their script regardless of the customer's wants/needs. Luckily, I was able to cancel the second antenna order online. I have no intention of returning this, unless it stops working within the return window. So, on top of the almost $90.00 (incl. tax) I spent on this antenna I now have to spend more and buy a coaxial cable that should have been in the box. They're cheap, but that's not the point. The antenna does give crystal clear local channels. It has better reception than the ones it replaced -- the only saving grace. As a lesson learned, I will NEVER do another cs "chat". From now on it will be person to person on the phone.

I watched and read multiple reviews on indoor antenna's and decided to try the Antop at-500. Antenna works better than I expected I have multiple free TV channels and called an cut my Spectrum cable bill from $ 150.00 per month (internet, basic tv and a land line which we don't use). Now I pay $ 59 including tax for internet only. The antenna allows me to watch multiple FREE channels ABC, NBC, CBS Fox and many more. Today was a very good day reducing my Spectrum bill

I purchased this a couple of weeks ago and this morning I had a chance to finally install it. I went from about 50 channels to 180+ channels. I even got the elusive CBS. I also got KRON/the CW, and several PBS stations that I had not gotten before. I’m very happy with it!

What was shipped to me was Model AT-SBS500S-Black Indoors it doesn't bring in RF channel 11 (WESH 2.1) nor (ME-TV 2.2) both of which are 27 miles due east here in Orlando on RF channel 11. Most UHF channels are a bit flaky as well. It is high-quality materials and build. Kind of impressive actually. Trying to receive NBC here in Orlando should not need to be so aggravating. My Mohu ArcPro flat panel works better than this antenna does for UHF (but still no NBC though. [sad]) Channel scans would vary from 3 channels to 51 channels depending on how the antenna was positioned for any given scan. Sadly "Trial and error" is your only friend here. I would not recommend this indoor antenna to anyone with a lot of UHF channels more than 25 miles away. Plan to be disappointed if your broadcasters are not pumping out good quality signals.

Any antennae review is going to be highly subjective and dependent on many factors outside your control: location, atmospheric conditions, obstructions, tower distance and so on. What works great for me might be lousy for you. That said I have tried several of the flat HD antennae's you can get for $15-$30; some with the power booster and some without. Each worked ok but not great plus they can warp in direct sunlight over time. I have two outputs and this larger, more solidly constructed Antop offers 2 so it seemed worth a try. As the description pictures show it is a nice solid plastic shell about 2-2.5 ft long. Unlike what some other reviewers reported, you cannot disconnect the cable from the antennae itself...it's hard wired. Additionally the stock pictures for this device show it comes with an inline "power inserter" with green and yellow lights. Mine does not have this feature. Finally the description also states it comes with two, 5' cables. Mine came with one. Not a deal breaker but misleading none the less, and you may need to purchase another coax cable; I had extras around the house so no biggie. The power boost box is pretty chintzy and flimsy. Be careful not to drop or otherwise be rough with this piece. The kit comes with a stand for vertical positioning of the antennae however it's recommended you mount horizontal for best reception. And this is where things can get tricky and require much trial and error. Our home is 30-40 miles from all the towers with no clear line of sight. There's always some kind of weather, pollution or other particulates in the air interfering with reception. I spent a couple days mounting and remounting plus adjusting the power boost dial to various settings before finding the perfect spot. I even had to fine tune by routing the cables and hanging them in a particular fashion to get the best signal. I finally got it set to where both outputs are getting the best reception with the most channels; even then there are still channels that either won't tune in or are not clear. However it's good enough for my purposes. I'm pulling down around 60 of the roughly 74 OTA channels available for our area. So at $90 this antennae is a little pricey and even though it's not perfect I guess I have to say it's worth it. For me. Your experience could be totally different as I mentioned at the top. Good luck.
