Someone stole my bike
By Steven Tomas Felix on Reviewed in the United States on November 25, 2022
Company did absolutely nothing to help assist when my bike was stolen. I called the company to have them look up my bikes serial number from the purchase sale, and they told me that I was out of luck… how does one of the largest bike companies in the world, not have the capabilities of looking up the serial number on a bike that was shipped out and purchased by someone like me? Considering that bikes are stolen quite often, you would think Schwinn would have developed a system to keep track of Bike serial numbers after they are sold. Very disappointed with the company in regards to customer service in a effort to locate the serial number on my bike. The bike was great, a little over priced, but 4/5 stars. I went to a bike shop near by me and they said I over paid my bike by at least $500.

Good at first, deteriorates quickly
By Reviewer on Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2020
When I first got this bike, it was amazing. Easy assembly, easy to read manually and the ride was smooth. I was very impressed as this was my first ever mountain bike. Things immediately started to deteriorate quickly after the first ten miles. Problem 1: Improperly installed/tuned parts None of the parts such as the gears or breaks are adjusted properly leading them to function improperly. For example the front derailleur never shifted the chain in the highest friction shift level and i had to spend 3 hours adjusting it as the parts weren’t installed properly. The brake pads were always rubbing against the rotors and initially I thought it’s just needs breaking in but it just got worse and worse. Problem 2: Weird noises and creaking A few days i started to feel a click in the same spot in the crack shaft and it was incredibly audible. The front fork always made a creaking noise and would bottom out when going up a rounded curb ok my driveway. Whenever i would go about 12mph, the bike sounded like an electric motor due to the brakes rubbing against the wheel. Problem 3: The sheered pedal Like many other owners, my right pedal sheered off the crank and was unusable only after a few rides. Problem 4: The “warranty” The bike claims to have a warranty and I immediately called Schwinn to make a claim. I was told they would only replace the affected parts, even if you would have to remove other parts to replace the affected part. For example, the sheered pedal affected the crank and the pedal as both was sheered off but Schwinn said they would only replace the pedal and I’d have to do it myself. As someone who ain’t very technically proficient how would i be able to replace the entire crank as it’s connected to a lot of components? The looks: This bike looks incredible, and the paint job is superb. That’s really the only thing it has going for it other than the features. Verdict: This bike is a scam, they draw you in with the initial performance and keep you from using your warranty by only replacing certain components and making you do self repairs. I would advise staying away from this bike unless you want spare parts and a hefty repair bill, thank god amazon support is so good or this would be a nightmare.

Great Bike But Requires Some Upgrades

I have owned several Schwinn bikes over the years so I decided to buy Schwinn again. However, it has been several years between my last bike and this one. This is not the Schwinn bike of years gone by. In my opinion the change to manufacturing them in China was a mistake. The quality is not the same. At any rate, this is not a bad bike for the money, it just needs a couple upgrades. First off, I replaced the seat with a better padded one. I opted for the TONBUX memory foam. I also replaced the crankset and bottom bracket because I was getting a clicking noise and clunk feel as I pedaled even after making sure all was tightened. I replaced with the BUCKLOS 104 IXF crankset and Hollowtech bottom bracket. I also installed a new KMC X8 8-speed chain. What an improvement! Much smoother pedaling and gear shifts. This is a great bike for the money. After assembly I took time to adjust the handlebars, the brakes, the seat, the derailleurs, etc. This wasn't hard it just took patience and a couple Youtube reviews for guidance. The bike looks good and really handles the trails well. The big 29 inch wheels roll easily over rocks and roots. The brakes work great, the Shimano sets work great, the front and rear shocks work great. I really enjoy riding this bike especially now after the upgrades. I'm 5'11" and about 210 lbs. I'm 66 years old. I've found blasting down some wooded trails brings back some excitement and memories of my youth. Enjoy!
Review after 400 miles... Updated @ 3000 miles

I waited until I had over 400 miles on the bike before writing a review, and so far, so good. I wanted a low priced dual suspension mountain bike to ride 3 - 4 times a week for about 25 miles at a time. My old bike had 26 inch wheels and no suspension, this one rides much better. I know that the suspension parts are not the best as they are just springs, but they seem adequate for my needs which is mostly on paved and an occasional fire road. If you need rear locking or want dampening, you will need to spend a lot more money. I ordered the matte black and blue model mostly because it looked like it had mounts for a water bottle cage, and it does. It also came with a side stand. In 400 miles, I have not had any problems, and have not had anything get loose or fall off. I assembled it myself, and didn't have any problems or missing parts. I am 6' tall and weigh 185, the bike fits well and has a nice ride, I really like the 29" wheels. I am glad that I bought it and would recommend it to a friend as long as they are over 5' 10". UPDATE @ 3000 miles: The tires are almost shot, but I am going to try to get 3500 out of them. The only issue so far was the crank bearings got loose @ 2500 miles. I wanted to clean and grease them anyway so I ordered a crank puller and started. What I found was the fixed race was loosening (I never checked it before) and after a thorough cleaning and fresh grease, it was as good (better) than new. I thought that I would upgrade to an air shock, and I wish that I would have done this sooner. It made a huge difference. I found a cheap shock on the auction site E-B** for a little over $30 (HTL-100 MTB) the 150 mm shock is 5mm too short and the 165mm shock is 10 mm too long. I didn't want to lower the ground clearance since I was already rubbing the pedals on corners, so I installed the 165mm shock, but if lower ground clearance is not an issue go with the 150mm. The 165mm shock works fine but the kick stand is a little short now, but I really like the ground clearance, and the ride has really improved over both small and large bumps.

Got what was paid for

Mountain bikes easily climb into the $1000's so don't expect this to be a topnotch product. That being said, for the price, it is an excellent bike. Bought 2 of them and one came with a missing part and the other needed a replacement pedal after 1 month of use. Luckily, Schwinn is an excellent company with excellent customer support and both problems were resolved reasonably quickly. The bike is just a bit too tall for someone 5'7 but not un-rideable. 95% of the bike is sturdy although the suspension is lacking. For the purposes of easy trails and street riding, it's great.

I’ve only used this bike twice. The first time was for about a half hour. Over this past weekend I went for a three hour bike ride along the Seattle waterfront and the left pedal came completely off. It first started to bend then eventually the threading of the bolts that held it into the pedal breeze just gave out and broke off entirely! If you see (in the photos I provided) my tires are brand-new. Sure, this bike was affordable but I’m sure it was manufactured with a mix of expensive and inexpensive components to reach that price point. Apparently there are some parts where are you cannot compromise the structural integrity. I have no clue how I’m gonna get this fixed. I’m sure it will probably cost me upwards of $100.
It's A Big Bike

I went to the local bike shop and the owner pointed out that since I am nearly 6 foot 6 inches tall, I needed a larger bike, but they were out of stock and the waiting list was months long. So, I ordered the bike online from Schwinn's Amazon store on sale for $549 USD. It typically sells for $799 USD. When the box was delivered, I tried to put it together myself. On my first attempt to ride, the front wheel and handlebars immediately loosened, aiming in different directions. I ended up paying the local bike shop $60 USD to put it together properly for me. I had made a number of mistakes and stripped three hex screws in the process. The instructions were confusing and they did not provide the hex tools needed to put it together. I would have at least appreciated the right bits. Also, the tires PSI should really be in the manual. It is difficult to read raised black print on a black tire. Other than the seat needing more padding for my boney behind, which is wholly a me problem, I rather love it. I will need to get used to the new shifters. I ended up spending $200 USD just on further upgrades, like lights, mirror, air pump, helmet and a water bottle holder.
It's Not Quite There - But a Really Good Value

I bought this bike as I was replacing a 38 year old Pacific dual suspension bike which I had enjoyed. I'm not going to be doing any competitive downhill and this bike out of the box is a very comfortable ride. Just make sure you are tall enough to handle the frame size. At 71 years old and 6'2" Ihave to lean the bike way over to get my leg over the seat. A dropper post seat is my next addition to the bike. The first bike I received had the front wheel loose in the box and it was way out of being true. I put in a request for just the front wheel and they shipped me another entire bike. The components are mostly all entry level. I replaced the front and rear derailleurs, the bottom bracket (stock is a square taper 3 piece crankset). This will be replaced with an updated bracket. The rear sprocket is a freeWHEEL, NOT the current standard FreeHUB. So it's not quite up to snuff if you are looking for some serious mountain trails. The rotors are both 160mm. The shifters and brake levers are combined units. The stock brakes are good for leisure riding but again, lacking for downhill racing. As a leisure bike path and gravel trail bike, this is a VERY comfortable ride as it comes out of the box. With some minor modifications and upgrades it can be a very comfortable and OUTSTANDING ride. By the way... the paint scheme and wheels are "killer" and get a lot of second looks and compliments wherever I ride. I see lots of reviews on this bike and others where the pedals sheer off of the crank. If the bike is under warranty, you can call Schwinn and give them the information on the serial # and manufacture date from the label on the seat tube and they will usually send out a replacement part. In the case of the pedal, you would need a new crank arm. You can buy a crank arm puller for under $20 here on Amazon (you should have this on hand for future upgrades or issues). It takes about 5 minutes to pull the stripped crank arm off and another 5 minutes to replace it with a new one. There are lots of videos on YouTube. Check the other pedal also. Make sure you thread them in correctly - the left one has reverse threads and you want to be sure you do NOT strip the threads. If you have any doubt, replace both crank arms.. And by all means throw those cheap stock pedals in the nearest trash can and replace them with some 3 bearing all metal larger models from vendors here on Amazon. You will be glad you did.

I’ve read a lot of reviews. The mostly negative or 1-2 stars reviews come across as beginners or novices. If you have little or no experience with riding, mountain bikes or the many various components MOVE ON to something more simple or get educated!!!! He** one guy complained about the petal shearing out, I can tell just by looking at it he cross threaded it while “trying “ to thread it in. It’s aluminum, apply lubricant and it “should thread easily, if not your doing it wrong, readjust. It’s a real decent bike. Some of the components are ok for now. Definitely should upgrade front shocks, they don’t cut the mustard. It is a very tall bike, I’m 75in tall or 190cm and it’s like getting on a horse. The seat is extraordinarily uncomfortable, my bottom will hurt for days after this morning’s ride. I’d recommend this bike to someone who has a freaking clue about bikes and aluminum. It’s ok out of the box, fairly easy to finish assembling. If you still want it and are not mechanically inclined, so yourself a favor, save money save time and pay someone who knows what their doing. It’s a good bike with major potential, highly upgradable. Will post update after 100miles.
2 YEAR 10 MONTH UPDATE! Bike came with a few issues...BUT...

Can't add ratings as I haven't yet completed assembly and test ridden the bike, and there's a couple reasons why. First of all whoever put the front fork of the bike together on the frame put it on backwards. And the other problem is that the fork itself was welded crooked. The fork dropouts and the brake caliper are angled incorrectly and isn't parallel with the frame. UPDATE: 2 year, 10 month update! This bike's frame is pretty much indestructible. Schwinn designed a very durable frame, but is outdated in terms of geometry and it's derailleur hanger; it's not removable/replaceable. The head tube angle could be much slacker, somewhere around 67 degrees, and internal cable routing would be nice, too. Other than those "issues", I have grown to love this bike. I take it every where: commuting, agressive leisurly city riding, and to a few local trails. IF upgraded with the right parts, this bike will be very comfortable, very forgivable, fast even, and easy to learn mountain biking on. Mine has been upgraded with the following parts: WTB ST-i25 wheelset w/Continental Race King 2.2 tires Shimano HG-400 9 speed cassette Shimano Alivio 9 speed rear derailleur KMC 9 speed SL gold chain Shimano tourney 3x crankset with Shimano bottom bracket DNM AOY-36RC rear shock (165 x35mm) SR SunTour XCR32 120 MM front suspension Shimano BR-M375 front and rear resin pad brake calipers 9 speed Shimano Altus rear shifter, 3 speed front shifter Alivio brake levers, front and rear FSA zero stack, integrated 1 1/8 headset 780mm Wake black handlebar Wake adjustable stem Carbon fiber spacers Carbon fiber bottle holder I'm very happy with what the bike for it's level, and will recommend it for any beginner like myself who is mechanically inclined and uses common sense when assembling and replacing parts. 4 star bike!
