Maples Rugs Non-Slip Runner Rug

When I received this rug exactly a year ago today, I loved it. No odor, laid flat, no slip, somewhat soft and slightly faded grey and cream. Almost looked like an artisan rug to replace a 10-year-old very expensive 8 by 10 after moving to a smaller condo and redecorating. I sadly don't have pets as none allowed in the building and my husband passed away, so foot traffic is light. Also, I'm often in the hospital due to breast cancer. The colors went beautifully with my new gray leather couches and creamy-white walls. 6 months into owning, I noticed it looked much more faded and a little dirty. I have followed directions to never vacuum with a beater bar. This 5 by 7 rug has mostly been treated with kid gloves. Month 8, I finally decided to spot clean the area that was now looking really dirty - about a fourth of it leading to the corner - large area. No harsh detergents, just mild soap and a soft cloth. The rug looked filthy now in that area!!!! Within two days, the corner of the rug - the binding tore off or just became detached and the grey color had lifted like non-colorfast marker. Those areas that were grey were now a sickly taupe brownish grey - completely faded and the color from the grey all over the cream color looking like black dirt. I've tried everything for the last few months and rug keeps fading more to taupe. It wasn't dirt on the rug, but dye all along that had faded to almost nothing and stained the cream parts. When a rug with excellent reviews for the most part a year ago, made by a small family business in the USA has a life span of only 6-8 months before the dye fades and discolors the cream with the original dye turning a truly heinous color, it's not worth it to reorder (I almost did!). I had hoped it would last at least 2 years considering the lower price and light foot traffic. When a rug is meant to not be color safe at all, it should be noted the dye will fade within months - leaving you with a rug that's meant for a dumpster. Reading more recent reviews today of the 5 by 7 and larger (I ordered the matching runner for the kitchen just 2-3 months ago!), I see others have had the same problem with fading or "ink" as several put it running into the cream part. Maples Rugs needs to state this upfront or double check the dye on their rugs before shipping. People don't usually buy a 5 by 7 rug for just a few months and then need to throw out. I did try to reach the company a few months ago when the fading and ripping of the edge started, to no avail. Had they acted in good faith or said this was a defect, I would have purchased the same exact rug from them because I loved it the first few months. Rating from 5 stars for 5 months to zero stars at 8-12 months.
