Excellent doorbell camera (would give it 6 stars if I could)
By Lutz E. on Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2020
This will be one glowing review, so there's a short and long version. Pick depending of your level of time/interest.Short:1) Connection time: excellent, around 1-2 seconds from the time you receive motion/bell notification to the video stream being up and live!2) Very intelligent motion "box" you can define where to trigger motion and where not3) Locally kept data(!). My biggest gripe with Ring Doorbell (more on that below). Eufy keeps your data in YOUR house. No monthly fee, no privacy hassle.4) Video Quality is excellent, better then Ring for sure, imho. All told, you will NOT regret it if you buy a Eufy.CheersAnd here’s the long narrative, if you have time. Background:After years of ever mounting frustration with Ring Doorbell over their questionable security incidents, their price policy (they charge a monthly fee for me to watch video of my "events" and yet they upload it each time to their server farm anyway, wether I pay or not [if you run FireWalla fire-wall you can proof it out and see each event triggers a 2-4 mb upload, but you don't get to see it unless you pay Ring your monthly tidings) and Ring's horrible slow connection time (I wait and wait in desperation for the app to wake up and establish the video stream, often 15-20seconds, often enough to see the UPS driver walking away by the time the stream establishes) I decided enough-is-enough and couldn't be happier with that choice. in Fact, I'm super annoyed that I waited that long!1) Connection Time:From the point of a ring or video alert, being notified on your phone by app-notification, it takes around 1-2 seconds for the app to open up and establish a life stream. Regardless if you're on Wifi at home or LTE away. One odd quirk: your audio (you talking to the person in front of your door) is muted by default. This is perhaps to avoid that you shout to your spouse "...it's the boring Miller's from next door again!..." and accidentally having them hear that. But, you need to press the little microphone unmute button which took me a few tries to get used to.2) Motion selectionI always found Ring Doorbell to sensitive, in all it’s settings (we have a street around 30feet away from front door but Ring always decided to alarm us about cars driving by) that I kept it disabled.Eufy does not do that, they have a nice motion-detection box you can manually and freely define by pulling string-dots around (in our case a bush blown by wind on right side was an issue sometimes). Removed it from the motion trigger view and all is good now. Their SW appears more intelligent to detect wanted vs. unwanted motion.3) Data retentionWonderful! You are in control of your own data, without a company by ineptitude (remember the one video door bell company misconfiguring servers by mistake and releasing customer data) or unsavory business practice (Ring releasing your data to 3rd parties whether you agree to that or not) or both - made me become a “cloud data-cutter” e.g. I am becoming more and more conscious who has my data and if it’s relevant for me enough to keep it myself.Well, Eufy lets you keep your data on YOUR premise. Wonderful.Video upload times are fine (just select videos you want to upload to your PC, phone or a cloud backup, YOUR choice, not a companies) and efficiently.4) Video qualityI was a bit apprehensive by some reviews complaining about bad picture quality.Turns out, this is NOT an issue at all! What’s going on is (imho) that Eufy smartly extracts a little thumb tag of a person’s face that is displayed below the video stream in a little round “logo”.I added a picture of a Fedex driver taking a picture after dropping off a box. If you look closely, the Eufy system “grabbed” the best possible face/position and put it as a little round sticker below the video. The only way I could see being disappointed with those that do complain about that, is that the round logo/picture is too small at occasions. But, those people that I do know being captured that way are often visible enough to make out and say “yup, that’s uncle Billy-bob dropping by”-and not having to open the video stream to look it over. That’s it. I am utterly totally happy. This is the right device for you if you have any of (or all of) my concerns about Ring or other monthly-paid-companies with forced-cloud-models.

UPDATE - HAVING PROBLEMS!!!
By Tom Steele on Reviewed in the United States on February 26, 2020
UPDATE: I have purchased two of these. We got one for ourselves and we liked it so much that we got one for my wife's parents. Shortly after we did that, both our Eufy and our in-laws Eufy Doorbell stopped working. Nothing different on our end - they just quit connecting to our routers and they don't work now.As you can imagine, this is a huge step backwards and not a good thing for our family relations. What a sad change of events and a bad way to win over people. Up until it quit, we were the technology heroes in the family. Now we are just the dummies who steered everyeone wrong for an expensive and bad quality device. Not sure what happened. Is it a bad firmware update or what? But I know that now I have to go to my in-laws and try to get it working again and I have to fix mine as well.RIGHT NOW I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED...PREVIOUS REVIEW BELOW---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I dreaded hooking this up. I just knew there would be difficulties getting it hooked to my internet or issues with delays or gotchas or something. I was pleasantly surprised with HOW EASY it was to install. I used the angled plate to aim it better, and I will say that my old doorbell was a little lower than the recommended 48 inches high that the Eufy Doorbell should be installed, but that hasn’t been a problem yet.I was able to EASILY use the supplied jumpers to rewire the existing doorbell connection and give the Eufy enough power. Installing the Eufy doorbell itself was also simple.Connecting the doorbell was a little anxiety producing, but it was unneeded as the installation went smoothly and the app did almost everything needed. I had to put the wi-if password in place and that was most of the install. At first I was a little worried that this thing might have delays if our internet wasn’t good enough (we have 1 gigabit fiber from At&T but it doesn’t always work as good as it is supposed to) and the first few hours it seemed as though this might be the case. But after a short time, it seemed to quit having any issues and there are no significant delays and it works WAY BETTER THAN I EXPECTED. One of the really nice things was how I was easily able to pick what area of the doorstep to use for motion detection and human being detection and mask out, or not use other parts. That works VERY, VERY WELL and it is very customizable and easy to use. If you can do a Snapchat filter, you can use the app! Here’s a GREAT STORY... after installing the Eufy doorbell, I was at work in the morning. I got a notification of human recognition on the front porch. My daughter had stepped out to wait for her carpool ride. I assumed this was probably a 30 second delay and that she was probably already gone, but for kicks I turned the microphone on and when it turned blue, I told her HELLO. She turned around and said, “Hello Daddy!” I was able to send my daughter off to school with an “I love you” for the first time in years! What a great experience!!!The eufy Security, Wi-Fi Video Doorbell with 2K HD, 2-way audio, No Monthly Fees (Requires Existing Doorbell Wires, 16-24 VAC, 30 VA or above) is also really great for seeing when packages are delivered (or stolen!) and the picture and audio are excellent.Speaking of delay, the delay DOES EXIST but it is fairly small - I would guess three to five seconds, but probably closer to three. It is very tolerable and manageable.I am THRILLED with this purchase. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a great way to keep up with your front door from anywhere!I hope this review is helpful, if you have any questions, please feel free to write to me by reaching out via my Amazon Profile page and I will get back to you asap. One last note, we now have SEVERAL Eufy products and ALL OF THEM are excellent QUALITY and EXCELLENT EASE-OF-USE. We tell people about Eufy all the time!
