End the Suffering of Buffering
By Jerry P. Danzig on Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2020
I have been wanting to beef up the wifi signal in my studio apartment so I could watch streaming TV on a tablet in my bathroom at the far end of the apartment from the router in the living room. The constant buffering of streaming signals in the bathroom was driving me crazy -- how many times can you watch that little circle spin around before you want to smash something??? So I checked the reviews here -- and saw that Amazon had given this extender their Amazon's Choice designation -- and thought I'd give it a try. The price -- under $50 -- didn't hinder my decision either... The gizmo came yesterday, and of course the easy setup method didn't work. I pushed the WPS button on both the router and extender, and -- the signal LED on the extender never turned solid blue as hoped for. So I had to try the difficult setup method. My eyes rolled up when I tried to fathom the instructions. "Connect your wifi device to the repeater's wifi network rockspace_EXT." How do I do that??? Ah, you have to open the control panel on your computer and play with the wifi settings... You then have to visit a website and select the wifi network you want to extend. Finally, you enter the password of that wifi network -- and after a long and agonizing pause, the message "Extended successfully!" appears. Yea!!! Unfortunately, I was still not out of the woods. Though I found a spot for the extender that lit up the solid blue "Signal Received" light, the streaming signals in my bathroom were still pausing and buffering as before. What the? I turned back to the instructions. Ah -- you have to set the device you want to receive the extended signal -- in this case, my tablet in the bathroom -- to connect to the network with the suffix EXT/5GEXT and again enter your router's password. Eureka! Now all was at last well -- this fiddling and sweating took me about an hour, but now the picture was streaming with NO pausing or buffering. EXCELLENT! So the experiment ultimately proved successful, but unless you get lucky with the WPS buttons, you may need to have a savvy teenager standing by to see you over the finish line... Good luck!

Great Customer Service/Tech Support! Product didn't work for me, though.
By D. Darrell on Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2020
SECONDARY UPDATE : Second product did the exact same thing. Worked great for about a week, now randomly quits working for no apparent reason every 20 min-2 hrs. Will occasionally work fine if I only have TV connected to it all evening or if I fall asleep with the tv on all night, but once I connect my phone as well, it always quits within the stated window. Only hard resetting the device fixed the issue temporarily. Not sure if a WiFi extender even would use cache memory, but my extensive experience with and moderate knowledge of electronics would suggest that pattern of behavior is an issue related to cache memory build up or something like that. Possibly a bug with the software or design flaw that doesn't tell it to clear the cache. I've had similar issues with smart TVs in the past. Seems ridiculous that something running that type of operating system on a TV doesn't have a manual option to do so. I can see why this product wouldnt, but it should automatically do so once it gets to a certain level. I'm still in the return window now, so I'll be sending these back and will have to find another brand, unfortunately. Seems like most people don't run into this issue, but I'm definitely not alone. ORIGIN UPDATE : Review changed to 4 stars because Tech Support on packaging responded to email very promptly and immediately offered to send a replacement! They sent a shipping confirmation yesterday, so we'll see how it goes. Very satisfied with the timely response and quality of customer service! Original Review : Worked great for a week or so, but now every 30 minutes or so everything connected stops working, still all connected, but says "no internet access". Lights are still solid blue, no indication of issue. Only fix is to unplug and plug back in, but then after working great again for 20-40 min, it just keeps happening over and over. I loved how easy this was to set up vs NetG version and it worked great, but this issue is making it incredibly frustrating to use. If the seller responds and we can resolve the issue, I'll adjust to 5 stars across the board!
