Apple 7.9" iPad Mini (3rd Gen) (Open Box)

I am not disappointed with the Mini 5; I like the additional ram over my Mini 2. I just want potential buyers to beware of my stupidity, or Amazon's deception. I checked with the Amazon Warehouse when wanting to purchase a new Ipad. It had a couple of Mini 5s available. They were marked used, and some were described with minor scratches, etc., but one was described as only a damaged box. The units were about 9% lower than the new ones, but a savings is a savings. My mistake was to think that this unit was marked "Used" because the box was damaged. Anyway, I bought this unit. When I got it, the box was damaged as described; however, from what I could tell the unit was in pristine cosmetic order. The charger and cable were included. When I started it up, I got the usual "Hello" in several languages. It looked like a great value. However, when I went into the "About" section, in "Limited Warranty," it gave an expiration date about eight months from my purchase date. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple about this, and no help there; Apple would honor only the original registration date. Then, I called Amazon for some kind of extension on the warranty as it was determined that this was a returned item. No help there either than telling me I could return the unit. My complaint and caveat is that for less than $30 more, I could have had a new Mini 5 with a one-year warranty. Instead, I have a used Mini 5 with only an 8-month warranty. Now, I was stupid, but I also feel that Amazon was deceptive, or negligent, in not making the reduced warranty clear. It is disappointing because I usually really appreciate Amazon and have many purchases to prove it.
